How To Sell Your GPU
Micro Center has been the authority on graphics cards since the earliest days of PC gaming. We’ll tell you exactly how to trade in your GPU — and show you why Micro Center will always be your ultimate destination for PC graphics cards.How-To
Your graphics card (GPU) creates all of that dynamically-lit, ray-traced, ultra HD visual goodness you love. But for many PC owners, there comes a time to upgrade your GPU — and, much like upgrading your phone or your vehicle, it’s only logical to put the value of your old card toward the hot new model.
Micro Center has been the authority on graphics cards since the earliest days of PC gaming. Today, we proudly provide the quickest and easiest way to trade in your GPU for a fair price. We’ll tell you exactly how to do it below — and show you why Micro Center will always be your ultimate destination for PC graphics cards.
Is It Time for a New GPU?
If you own a PC with high-performance graphics (such as a gaming PC or video editing rig), there’s a good chance you’ll change its graphics card at least once and potentially more times than that. Even if you’ve upgraded your card before, the process can be intimidating. Just researching and deciding on a new graphics card takes a lot of effort — and that’s before you get to the process of selling your GPU.
Most PC users sell their GPUs because they want to upgrade to a newer model. If your current GPU doesn’t offer the necessary specs to play the games you want or to use professional graphics applications, it’s probably time to consider selling or trading it in. Putting the value of your old GPU toward your upgrade will give you more options for getting exactly the card you want at the right price.
Upgrading isn’t the only reason to sell your GPU. Maybe you bought a more powerful graphics card than you needed, or maybe you have more than one and need to make space. Whatever the reason that you’re selling your GPU, Micro Center makes it a snap to trade it in.

Why Trade in Your GPU?
What are the advantages of trading in your GPU at Micro Center? We designed our trade-in program to give you the best value in every way we can:
1. Instant trade-in credit gets you moving on up.
Trading in your older GPU at Micro Center makes a new card more affordable. Your trade-in credit is good toward all of the latest graphics cards for gaming, or for anything else in our unmatched lineup of PC parts and electronics.
2. Fair value for your card, so you go home happy.
We use the latest data on market prices for graphics cards to ensure you get a fair value for your GPU trade-in. Our expert staff will walk you through the whole process and explain how your card is valued — and you’re always free to accept or decline our offer.
3. Same-day service makes your life easier.
Use a mail-in GPU trade-in program, and you’ll often find yourself waiting days or weeks just to get your card evaluated. Micro Center lets you skip the wait with same-day evaluations and trade-ins. Schedule your appointment with our GPU experts in advance, or just walk into your local Micro Center store.
4. No fuss, no drama, no shipping.
Selling your GPU through a third-party marketplace is often a time-consuming hassle. Buyers fall through or haggle prices, and if you’re selling in national marketplaces, you might end up paying for cross-country shipping. When you just want a fair value for your card without the headache, Micro Center’s GPU trade-in program is exactly what you’re looking for.
5. Cut down on e-waste and home clutter.
Electronic waste is an increasingly serious environmental problem — and, unfortunately, tossing out your old GPU usually means it ends up in a landfill. On the other hand, keeping a GPU that you don’t use creates one more piece of clutter in your home. Instead, trading in your GPU lets you reduce waste without burdening your home with old electronics.
6. Your old card gets a good home.
The graphics card that’s served you well will go on to a happy second life. Micro Center’s array of used and refurbished graphics cards is a go-to source for budget-conscious PC builders, who often use older cards to create PC rigs with great bang for the buck.
Considerations for Selling or Trading In Your GPU
If you think it’s high time to replace your GPU, keep these aspects in mind before beginning the trade-in process.
- Condition: Before you bring your card for a trade-in, make sure it’s in good working order. At a minimum, check that all of the card’s ports work and that it powers on. If the card is still in your PC, it’s a good idea to run a quick benchmark test to ensure that it’s still performing well.
- Cleaning: Give your graphics card a basic cleaning before you sell it. Typically, a gentle once-over with a soft cloth, rubbing alcohol, and a can of compressed air is all you’ll need. Don’t open the housing of your GPU, as this can let in more dirt and potentially damage the components.
- Value: Graphics cards with newer and more advanced hardware are generally worth more as trade-ins, but it can be tricky to get a realistic idea just from looking at online marketplaces. If you’re wondering what your GPU is worth, Micro Center’s GPU value estimator gives you an easy way to look up your card’s approximate trade-in value.
- Future Needs: What does the upgrade path for the rest of your PC look like? Do you plan to add your GPU to your current gaming rig, or put together a new PC using our PC builder? Micro Center gives you every option you could want!
Four Steps to Selling Your GPU
Our GPU trade-in program makes selling your GPU fast and convenient. Here’s how it works:
1. Look up the estimated value of your GPU.
If you’re logged into your Micro Center account, it’s easy to find the value of your GPU using our order tracking tool. Just log in, look up your current GPU in your purchase log, and find its trade-in value. (Only GPUs originally purchased from Micro Center are eligible for trade-in.) If you don’t have a Micro Center account, or you’re not sure if your GPU was purchased at Micro Center, you can look up your GPU by serial number instead. Still not finding your graphics card, but you think it came from us? Bring your GPU to our knowledge bar, in store, and we’ll look it up for you!
Note that the value you’ll see here is only an estimate, and other factors can affect the final offer for your graphics card.
2. Schedule a GPU evaluation.
Save time and effort — schedule your GPU evaluation ahead of time! Find your local Micro Center store, and then schedule your trade-in consultation at your convenience. Consultations are always free, and our friendly staff is happy to help.
3. Bring your GPU to Micro Center for assessment.
Stop by your Micro Center and drop off your GPU at your scheduled appointment time. (Don’t have an appointment? We do walk-ins, too!) Our tech experts will test your GPU and verify that it’s in good condition. Then, we’ll make you an offer in Micro Center store credit for your used graphics card.
4. Claim your store credit.
If you decide to accept Micro Center’s offer, we’ll issue your store credit on a convenient gift card. Your store credit is good for any purchase at any Micro Center store and never expires. Upgrade to the awesome graphics card you’ve been dreaming of, grab a computer parts bundle for your new PC build, or just deck out your PC case with some sweet RGB lights — the choice is yours!
