Now Available at Micro Center: The eufyMake E1 UV Printer

To get a demo of just how easy it is to set up, I had our maker expert Jacob walk me through a custom print for our Thekapco Charlie Brown themed keyboard; I wanted to add a pattern reminiscent of Charlie’s iconic shirt to the top plate and the E1 UV printer was a great way to get that done.
Printing on the eufyMake E1

While the eufyMake E1 does have some assembly required (you can watch Jacob and Andy build the printer later this week on our YouTube channel), I, luckily, got to use the E1 already set up, which meant I got to jump right into the fun part of actually painting… after I stripped the top plate off my trusty Glorious GMMK Pro barebones keyboard.
A few screws later and after some gentle prying, I had the top part of the chassis ready for printing. To start things off, I downloaded the eufyMake Studio app. From there, I placed the chassis top on the standard flatbed (though the E1 also comes with a mini flatbed for smaller prints) and clicked the “snapshot” button in the app.
Snapshot puts the E1 (and whatever is on the bed) through a series of scans and tests to understand exactly how big the object you’re printing on is, how high off the bed it gets, and any additional changes in elevation, like dips or divots.
Once it finished scanning (maybe two minutes), an image of the chassis top popped up in the app. From there, all I had to do was drag-and-drop the image I wanted painted onto the keyboard, select “metal” from the material drop down, and hit print. 30 minutes later, I had a custom-printed keyboard, ready to get to work.
Elevate your prints with 3D textures
For my test run, I did a very simple 2D print. No bells and whistles, just some ink on metal. But the eufyMake E1 has the potential to do so much more. Namely, print 3D. What exactly that looks like is going to vary from print to print, but if you’re looking to add some texture to your next project, the E1 absolutely can.
We have two great examples of 3D printing on the E1. The first is the GPU you can see in the image above; while the ink isn’t popping off the GPU like one of those late-90s “WOAH IT’S 3D” movies, the subtle raising does give the finished print just a bit more depth to help it really stand out.
Of course, if you’re looking for lots of depth, the E1 can also do that. We did a test print of a full moon and, at its apex, it pushes probably half an inch off the print surface. It’s also just as pockmarked and textured as the actual moon for a level of realism I didn’t know was possible with a printer.
The eufyMake E1 UV printer is ready to print on just about whatever surface you need it to; metal, wood, leather, plastic, canvas, stickers, you name it and the E1 can almost certainly print on it.
