Asus Gaming Laptops for CES 2024: Zephyrus, Strix, and Tuff
The Zephyrus, Strix Scar, and the affordable Tuff series all got new updates.News
Asus has big updates to its gaming laptop line at CES 2024, from the upscale Zephyrus line to the big-screen Strix Scar to the affordable Tuff series. We got a chance to check out all the new models shortly before the show.
Zephyrus G14 and G16
The Zephyrus G14 and G16 are to be Asus' flagship gaming laptops. The new G14 features a slimmer chassis, updated design and -- most importantly -- a 120Hz 3K OLED G-Sync display.
It’s powered by up to an AMD Ryzen R9 processor and NVIDIA RTX 4070 graphics, coupled with Wi-Fi 6E, up to 32GB of DDR5X RAM and 1TB of SSD storage.
The G16 offers a similar OLED display, but runs on an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, with up to an NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU. That new Intel CPU also gives it access to Intel's AI-friendly NPU hardware. One version of the G16 will have a TGP of up to 105W, but there's also a higher performance variant with TGP levels of up to 115W.
ROG Strix and Strix Scar
The new ROG Strix Scar 18 is exciting to me because I love 18-inch gaming laptops. This is a mini LED display, with over 2,000 discrete dimming zones and a peak brightness of 1100 nits.
Besides the premium Strix Scar 18 and a smaller Strix Scar 16, Asus also has new Strix G16 and Strix G18 models. All the 2024 Strix laptops run on the Intel Core i9 14900HX, with up to 64 GB of DDR5 and up to 4GB of storage. GPU options go all the way up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 on the Scar 16/18 and up to an RTX 4080 on the G16/G18.
These Dolby Vision displays all have a 16:10 aspect ratio and fast 240Hz refresh rate, and they hit 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, making these good for not only gamers, but also content creators and creative professionals.
TUF Gaming
For more affordable gaming, Asus is introducing updated TUF Gaming F16, A16, and A15 laptops. They're called TUF because all three models are designed for durability, meeting the new 2024 Military MIL-STD-810H standards, which include tests for vibration, shock, altitude, and temperature resistance.
The TUF Gaming F16 and A16 feature a new chassis, available in Jaeger Gray and Mecha Gray color options. Performance-wise, the TUF Gaming F16 is configured with an Intel Core i7 13650HX and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. The A16 can be configured with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX, while the A15 has AMD Ryzen 8000 series processors.
Look for all of these in Q1 2024.
