In his video, Linus was tasked with assembling the following components to create an extremely powerful $10,000 workstation PC. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x just launched yesterday on February 7, 2020. This processor has 64 cores, 128 threads, and 256mb cache. Linus made some alterations to the build on day of filming in order to water-cool the GPUs. He had a time crunch, but he got it done, and we really love the finished product!

The purpose of this rig is for gaming, the CPU and GPU was slightly overclocked due to the low temperatures after the custom loop and the water cooling, the CPU and GPU together sit at about 40c whereas prior to the custom loop the CPU was at about 50c and GPU at about 84c under stress. The first build was a non water cooling build over 12 years ago with the first i7 processor line that came out. I originally had an i7 860 which ran me into this build since the CPU was old.

It was the last piece missing from my man cave. I wanted a clean build but powerful at the same time. I set the build up with dual 1440p ultrawide 100hz viewsonic monitors and an extra long hdmi to my 75” Samsung tv that is connected to my surround system via arc to the marantz receiver. This setup allows me to game at my desk or kick back on the couch with a controller. I also got a oculus quest with oculus link to play beat saber and Half Life Alyx!! I chose a EVGA 2080ti FTW3 ultra Oc to power all the monitors and TVs. I have made so many trips to microcenter during the building process I have become a regular and familiar with most of the associates at the St David’s location, btw they all rock! The complete specs are below: CPU: Ryzen 3600x Cooler: wraith prism GPU: evga 2080ti ftw3 ultra Oc RAM: trident z neo 3600 cl 16, 32gb Storage: nvme pcie 4.0 1tb, nvme pcie 3.0 1tb, seagate hdd 3tb 7200 Case: NZXT h710i VR: oculus quest connected via oculus link Monitors: 2x Viewsonic xg350r-c 1440p ultrawide, Samsung 75” 4K 7series Sound system: marantz 6008 receiver, dual mono block amps for front towers. This is a top of the line Intel based gaming behemoth. All of the components were chosen because they were, and still are, top of the line for a gaming rig. The customer brought the machine in this year for a water cooling upgrade. Planning for the custom loop was rather difficult, as the open air design of the case does not leave very many mounting options. The final result was well worth the effort. The case used for this build is the InWin D-Frame 2.0, which comes equipped with a built in 1065w power supply.

Haven't had a capable gaming pc in over 10 years and haven't actually built systems in over 20 years (my bro and I used to as teenagers). When my wife gave birth to our second son and we got a nice tax refund, my wife gave me the all-clear to get myself a new system. Bought a prebuilt at first but due to problems with the system and poor customer service, I returned it and got to researching my own build. The system started off on a Gigabyte board and NZXT case, but after more problems with certain parts, I ended up with an almost completely Corsair build. Out of all of the customer service issues I had to deal with, they are simply the best: no hassle, no run around, just fast RMA. As for the system, I use it to play mostly single player RPGs or FPS games. I love the Metro series, Divinity games, The Witcher games, Resident Evil, BattleTech and MechWarrior, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Deus Ex, and so many others. Recently I played most of the latest games with real time ray traced effects and I'm eagerly anticipating where the technology is heading. Really looking forward to a couple of other games that will feature the technology in Cyberpunk 2077 and Vampire Bloodlines 2. Also really looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3. Currently enjoying Season 2 of The Division 2 with my brother, and really hoping that the next Control DLC will feature Alan Wake as many expect it to be! In the future, I hope to install a hard line custom loop, likely in the Hydro X series since I already have a Commander Pro and have already installed a soft tube Hydro X loop for a friend. Sadly, I can't find a water block for my card (they appear to be EOL both at EVGA and EKWB - Corsair doesn't make one for my model), so if I want to go custom loop, I'll probably have to get a new card. Otherwise, I don't really plan any other upgrades until I replace the system maybe in five years, especially since Z390 is also the end for upgrades.

He was given a budget of $5,000 and he was able to use the brand new Intel 9900KS processor. Linus decided to use the Asus TUF Gaming GT501 case with Corsair RGB fans. He built a very powerful PC including 2 Nvidia RTX 2080 TI graphics cards. Linus put this system together in our workshop and decided he wanted to sell it. With limited time left in the day, he priced this $5,000 PC at small discount for $20! The lucky customer who first noticed this PC was purchasing it as a birthday gift for her brother. Unfortunately Linus was not able to accept credit card payment at his cardboard stand, so he knocked another $5 off the price. With $15 cash in hand, he headed to Carl's Jr. after a successful, hard day of work! Thanks so much to Linus for coming out and filming in our store. We had a blast and can't wait for the next time you're in town! To see the full video visit Linus' channel here: https://youtu.be/5rwYjRzLHHI

Back in 2014 I got my first proper gaming PC. Then it was just low end, bought by my parents, built by person at the store. All midrange economical parts. Since then I've been pretty hooked into PC gaming as a whole. Previously I had a gaming laptop so going from laptop to desktop was a huge change, so big I wondered how on earth I was using a laptop for so many years. Fast forward 2019. I've now graduated from college, got a job, and have money for once in my life. I'm still all the time following youtubers like LinusTechTips and whatnot and always just following the latest tech, always seeing glamorous PC builds. From watching those videos everyday for years, I always wanted to feel the awesomeness of a proper high end build. So it was a dream of mine to build something that would be a gaming beast and a huge upgrade from my previous build as well. I wanted to go pretty much all out, no compromises but within a reasonable budget as I'm just not loaded with cash. I had to save up for this for well over a year. I started buying things slowly overtime with all my peripherals like my keyboard, mouse, chair, table, and stuff. Last piece was going to be the main PC itself and monitor upgrade. I bought things with the idea in my head, one and done. Like if I buy this, I'm not going to want to replace it at all. It was exactly what I would have wanted in my dream scenario. Then came time where I was ready to buy, and Ryzen 3000 was about to launch. I've been doing months of just looking at PC parts and watching youtube reviews of every part so I knew exactly what I would want. I've been watching many build videos, even bought PC Building Simulator so I can practice building since I didn't want to have someone else build my pc for me. I went to Microcenter right on launch day, July 7th and bought myself a Ryzen 3900X, with a brand new x570 motherboard, fancy new pcei gen 4.0 5gb/s m.2 ssd. I got the works, then two days later I picked up the brand new RTX 2070 Super on launch day and got the monitor to go along with it. Certainly can't afford a 2080ti but that gpu was powerful enough and at a good price point where it wasn't terrible performance per dollar. I didn't go overkill with any part of this PC, everything I use 100% to the fullest. I game almost everyday on it. I like to stream as well on occasion. I want to make youtube videos on it. I use it for school and work. This thing just flies through everything I throw at it. I love it. Any changes I would make to the build would simply be adding another 16gb of ram to it. I'm for sure going to buy the new RTX 3080 and plug that into my PC. I'll eventually add in another m.2 ssd eventually and one that'll be even faster. I also wish to add in a good standard ssd as well, my current standard ssd in it is unfortanetly dramless which I didn't really know about at the time, and I feel like when running games on that it acts not as well as an ssd should. I wish that my cpu cooler and the fans with it would sync up with my other devices, also my mouse and speakers so it would be all one light sync.

This is not this customer’s first experience with Micro Center - he has come to us several times with this case before and knew our abilities. He decided that his original build in this Cougar Conqueror Case was outdated, so he did some research and decided on what he wanted including what components of the original build could be used. This is no ordinary computer, with its open air case with all see through panels the cable management was a feat on its own, the customer made it very clear that this build would be a thing of pride something to show off to all of his fans. It included FOUR RGB Trident RAM sticks - the ones that look like diamonds! Amazing graphics were not enough, he needed out of this world real life graphics, so he chose TWO Gigabyte RTX 2080ti graphics cards that he could run in SLI mode. A silent all in one liquid cooler from Corsair fitted with RGB fans and TWO SSD's - one from the original build plus one brand new!
