My consulting business requires some power and my laptop was aging far too rapidly. I also downloaded Baldurs Gate 3 and when it kept crashing that was the final straw, I decided to build my own showcase instead of just building them for other people. With a budget of only $800 I built the most powerful build I could and it takes everything i've thrown at it and then some. I'd like to upgrade the processor as soon as possible and potentially take advantage of DDR5 rather than the current DDR4$892.92 -

A typical SFF build takes months; this one got done in about a day. Z790 board, 4090 graphics, fast RAM. Most parts from Microcenter, but the 4090 from Best Buy, the only place one can get the FE 4090. Modded the case to fit AIO on top. It's a very tight fit; few more mm space would be good. Microcenter should start selling slim AIO - with radiator less than 1 inch thick. Maybe 20 mm? ROG Strix motherboard Z790-I at $480 is a disappointment. No audio/sound on board (as per Asus design). The provided proprietary Hive hub is quirky and doesn't work, even after spending hours with Asus tech support to try troubleshoot it. Heading to Microcenter to buy a SoundBlaster USB to add sound.$2,439.90 -

This will be my first foray into both and I also plan on using it as a playground to learn about virtual machines and more. When I saw that the new Intel i3 13100 was available at mircocenter, I couldn't help but to upgrade. Right now I'm using this machine for everything BUT gaming. The reason for this is that I plan to acquire a 3060 Ti graphics card in the coming weeks to fully round out the new build. But for now, I'm up and running without it. One thing that turned out not so great was the color scheme I was going for. I noticed that all-white components tend to cost more for some reason, so I talked myself into buying some parts that looked mostly gray online. This was a mistake, because inside a white case, all the gray parts all pretty much look completely black.$680.94 -

This build was 100% motivated by a random impulse purchase at my local Microcenter. I noticed that the newest gen from Intel (13th gen) now had an i3 quad core (4 cores, 8 threads) available and the price at Microcenter was only $99. I decided to grab it and see how much it would bottleneck an older RX 5600 XT that I had going unused. Turns out, the answer is "not at all!"$593.93 -

He mainly play Fortnite and Minecraft, so it doesn't really need a whole lot of computing power. However, I was able to get a second hand RX 5700 XT for $130 bucks! This is a home NAS system running TrueNAS 13 (at the time of building), plus a modded Minecraft server inside a Virtual Machine and a Plex Media server running inside a BSD Jail. I picked the case for the hot-swappable drive bays and wasn't disappointed, they work perfectly as advertised and I should be able to expand it going forward if needed. The additional fans are quiet and keep everything well managed. Although it's worth noting that the case includes its own fan that is connected to the drive bays by a 2pin fan header, meaning it will always run at maximum RPM, and is quite loud. Bafflingly, the fan is actually a 4-pin PWM fan, and I would highly recommend connecting it to the motherboard via a Y-splitter to other case fans, rather than using the case header. Also, being a reasonably cheap case for the feature-set, it does not feature folded metal edges, the metal panels have very sharp internal edges and I did actually slash my finger quite badly installing one of the fans. But aside from that everything went relatively smoothly and I'm very happy with the performance so far.$973.77 -

As can be guessed from the name, this is a very budget gaming PC I built for myself, primarily for light gaming and schoolwork. No one is gonna call this a high end build, sure, but honestly it can run most things perfectly fine, so long as you're not going crazy on the settings. Most of the parts were bought a Micro Center since they tend to have good deals on CPU and motherboard bundles, and other various sales. This is a PC build for my friend, who wanted to game and avoid spending too much money. The objective was to keep it under $700 while still having decent gaming performance, and I think we achieved that. A nicer GPU would've been great, but an RX 6600 is a significant jump in price that would make us go over the budget, so we didn't go for it. However, this PC has great upgrade potential, and once he saves up enough money, he could swap the CPU for an i5 or i7, and swap to a better GPU as well.$560.92 -

The key is to choose parts carefully and bit of a luck to grab graphic card at MRP. This build was possible because of the 1650 super graphic card from NewEgg. I paid $244 for it. Usually I won't buy refurbished parts but its not normal times. Besides refurbished is better than the used ones as you can benefit from better life span and full manufacturer warranty. I didn't want it to look too boring as well. That's why I picked a cheap case that offers Tempered glass and changed the stock cooler with a vertical RGB CPU cooler. Intel stock coolers look really ugly by the way. If you are using tempered glass case, changing it is a must. Even with a non RGB one. Rest of the parts selection is very straight forward. Got whatever I can grab for decent price so stayed away from top name brands.$663.99 -

It's in my ten year old Thermaltake mid tower case, now with a new power supply. I did this thing as cheap as I could. The $89 i3 quad core is faster then the 6 core AMD FX that won't run Win 11. I bought a returned Asus motherboard, that was complete except the M,2 screws, and it seems to work fine. Like my cpu, my old ASUS legacy bios board won't run Win 11 either. And, of course it used DDR3, so I had to get new ram. Then there was the MBR Hard Drive problem and the UEFI bios differences. Such as, the : You can't boot from a legacy MBR HD if you use on board graphics, and then if you can find someone that knows that your lucky! So, you can now boot your old HD in legacy mode but guess what, you won't have "Secure Boot" so no Win 11! Which is what this is all about. Now ask on line how to change your MBR HD to GPT and keep it bootable! 99% of the answers say, "No sweat, but you can't boot from that drive anymore! So, how you gunna get that Windows 11, since you don't have a activation key because your copy is "digital" and if it don't boot you ain't got anything. See how many answers you get to that question online. I'll save you the trouble, you have to pay $45 dollars for Aomei backerupper. Then you can get Win 11, and try to find all the stuff you use to use that they just moved around to make it feel different, and call Netflix to ask why you can't watch a movie, but spammers can still find you through all this TPM, secure boot, and all the new Win 11 security and safe web shite.
