Pile of upgrades
by rem83 Posted on: 2/17/2022Build Description
This PC started as an HP Pavilion 690-0073w pre-built. The thermals were awful and the PSU / MB were non-standard, so I transferred the CPU, GPU, RAM and drives to a new case with a new MB and PSU. As parts were on sale (or available) I swapped out a bit at a time. Grabbed an i9 9900k when Microcenter clearanced them (and an Arctic AIO w/ VRM cooling). Needed overclocked RAM then, so picked up 32gb of Ballistix 3600 DDR4. Swapped out the 256gb NVME w/ a 1tb WD SN750 and added four 1tb SATA HDDs I had lying around into a RAID10 array for anything that didn't need SSD speeds. Finally managed to get a Gigabyte Waterforce Extreme RTX 3080 w/ AIO, which also required a PSU upgrade. Now the HP is back together for my kids to use!
Favorite Feature
The dual AIOs are great for keeping temperature under control without too much fan noise. The GPU doubles as a great heater for my office during the winter!
