A DisplayPort is a digital interface that supplies both audio and video via the same cable. DisplayPort is now being used in modern machines and is expected to replace digital (DVI) and analog (VGA) video in computer monitors and video cards. DisplayPort functionality can be compared to that of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) in that it provides both a digital video signal, and supports digital 8 channel 192 kHz audio.

There are two different types of DisplayPort, most computers and graphics use Mini-DisplayPort, which is the small form factor version of DisplayPort, whereas most televisions and audio/video equipment uses the full size DisplayPort.
