How to add Take Ownership to a Right Click

Description: This article describes a registry edit utility that offers a faster way of taking ownership of files and folders within Windows 7. Simply right click on the file or folder and choose Take Ownership.

  1. Take Ownership can be added to the right click menus by running a registry edit that is available from the Windows Seven forums - the download link they have provided is at:

  2. There are two options, one to add and one to remove Take Ownership. Double click on Add_Take_Ownership. You will receive a security warning, click Run.

  3. You will receive a message from the Registry Editor to open, click OK. Another Registry Editor will appear as shown below, Click Yes.

  4. You will now receive a successfully added to the registry message. Find the folder you want to take ownership of and right click - then click on Take Ownership.
