How to set up a Screen Lock on an Android Device
Description: Keeping an Android device secure is as simple as setting up a password to unlock it.
- Verify the home screen is active by touching the Home button along the bottom of the screen, then touch the Menu button.
- A pop-up display will appear. Touch settings in this menu.
- From here, look for Security, and touch it. (Note: In this example, the device is an HTC phone running their Sense overlay, so it may look different, but the overall process is the same)
- Touch Set Up Screen Lock.
- From here, the options for a screen lock are Pattern (to draw a pattern to unlock), PIN (to enter a four digit number to unlock), or
Password (to type in a password to unlock). Choose the desired security type by tapping it.
- Create the unlock code for the device. Once completed, tap Continue.
- It will then prompt to re-enter the code to verify. Once re-entered, tap Confirm.
- Once finished, tap Lock Phone After. This sets the time after the screen shuts off that it prompts for a pass code. For maximum results, tap Immediately.
- Now, every time the screen is turned off, it will require a password to turn it back on.
