Incredible Tech You Might Have Missed at CES 2025
CES is a big convention, so we pulled together some tech you might not have seen.News
CES has come and gone, and amidst all the excitement for a brand-new generation of NVIDIA graphics cards, new high-end AMD X3D CPUs, and a lot of new monitors and TVs, there were all kinds of new tech trends, products, and gadgets that flew under the radar of even the most discerning of CES attendees.
But Micro Center is never going to let exciting products or services miss-out on all the hype from CES. From portable gaming systems to emergency locators, here are some of the most interesting and exciting things you might have missed from CES 2025.
Lenovo’s rollable screen offers much more space for everything
Lenovo’s rollable screen has graduated from a prototype to an actual product at CES this year. The Thinkbook Plus Gen 6 comes with a screen that at the touch of a button, can extend itself upwards, giving you several extra inches of vertical screen space as and when you need it.
There are still plenty of questions surrounding the display, but it’s an exciting development for the technology and we’re very excited to get our hands on it proper. Being able to work on a train or plane on a compact laptop and then, when you’re relaxing in the hotel at the end of your work trip, you can expand the display and enjoy a properly large cinema screen for winding down.
Swippitt recharges your phone in seconds
Swippitt upended the classic phone charging dynamic with a unique swappable battery system that lets you get a full charge on your smartphone in just a few seconds. It works in tandem with a smart Link phone case that has a built-in 3,500 mAh battery. When it’s running low, you just plug your phone into the Swippitt hub, and it’ll use its quick swap system to change the battery for another one that’s fully charged.
The hub can hold up to five batteries at once, so multiple people can make use of this hub to get a quick shot of power when they need it. No waiting around for a recharge anymore. The only downside is that it only works with iPhone 14 through 16s, for now, but future Link cases will be compatible with all Android and iPhone models.
Reolink security cameras get extra detail
In 2025, home security cameras are really coming into their own with exciting new advancements in lens and sensor technology to deliver footage and live feeds that are more clear and detailed than ever before. Reolink’s new generation of 16MP security cameras, like the Duo 3, bring UHD video recording to the masses, giving you extreme detail from your security feeds. That lets you capture more detail up close, for better identifying individuals, but also greater detail at a distance, too, making these cameras better at long-range security functions.
Battery operated options leave your cameras wire free and easier to install than ever before, while Reolink’s new ColorX technology gives even your nigh-time footage, daytime-like color. This is excellent for nature recording, as well as more home security purposes.
Swann augments home and personal security with AI
AI assistants were everywhere at CES this year and Swann Communications even integrated them into new smart doorbells and cameras. The SwannShield AI Security Concierge service connects to a smart camera, creating a single device that can answer guests and delivery drivers automatically, speaking to them in a natural voice, and pass along any comments or instructions you want to give them.
Implemented with the MaxRanger4K video doorbell, Homeshield can implement other security procedures automatically, too, triggering extra lighting or alarms if necessary, or opening up your home to approved visitors if linked up with a smart lock or other home security system.
HMD OffGrid gets you emergency signal (almost) anywhere
Some of the latest Apple and Google phones have satellite communication built in for emergencies, but older phones miss out. With the HMD OffGrid accessory, though, you can add that capability to just about any phone. The OffGrid is a fancy little dongle that connects to a dedicated satellite network, and at the touch of a button you can get emergency assistance almost anywhere. For now, it’s limited to large areas of North America, Canada, Europe, and Australia/New Zealand, but expect that to expand in the future.
With military-grade durability and an IP68 rating, these dongles are designed to brave the great outdoors with you. If you’re heading off grid, maybe take one of these with you so you’re always within reach of a helping hand.
