In the bustling town where I grew up, there weren't many options for computer enthusiasts like me. Sure, there were a handful of small computer shops scattered around, each offering a mishmash of components, but none could compare to the tech haven that is Microcenter. My journey into the world of building PCs began amidst these humble surroundings. Armed with determination and a modest budget, I scoured the shelves of these local stores, piecing together my first rig. It wasn't perfect, but it was mine—a testament to my budding passion for all things tech. As I tinkered with my creation, learning the ins and outs of hardware assembly, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more out there, something beyond the limitations of my small town's offerings. That something turned out to be Microcenter. The first time I set foot in that gleaming megastore, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. Row upon row of pristine components stretched out before me, gleaming under the fluorescent lights. It was a paradise for any PC enthusiast, with shelves stocked high with the latest processors, graphics cards, and peripherals. But it wasn't just the sheer variety of products that captivated me—it was the expertise of the staff. Unlike the often clueless employees at the local shops, the Microcenter team were true professionals, eager to share their knowledge and offer advice on even the most obscure tech questions. Armed with the resources of Microcenter and the guidance of its knowledgeable staff, I embarked on my next build with newfound confidence. Gone were the days of settling for "okay" parts; now, I had access to the best of the best. With their help, I carefully selected each component, ensuring that my new rig would be a masterpiece of performance and reliability. As I sat back and admired my completed build, I couldn't help but marvel at how far I'd come. From humble beginnings in those small-town computer shops to the pinnacle of PC building excellence at Microcenter, my journey had been nothing short of extraordinary. And as I powered up my new rig for the first time, I knew that the best was yet to come. At its core lay the beating heart of my creation, the Intel i7 8700k, a processor as reliable as it was powerful. With its six cores and twelve threads, it was the engine that drove my digital adventures, powering through the most demanding of tasks with ease. Surrounding it, like loyal soldiers standing guard, were 32GB of RAM, a veritable army of memory, ready to tackle any challenge I threw their way. And nestled snugly within the belly of the beast was a lightning-fast 1TB SSD, its silent whispers promising swift load times and snappy system responsiveness. But it was the crown jewel of my rig—the RTX 2070 SUPER GPU—that truly set it apart. With its ray-tracing prowess and blistering rendering speeds, it transformed every pixel into a masterpiece, bringing my virtual worlds to life with unparalleled beauty and realism. Together, we embarked on a journey unlike any other, a journey into the heart of gaming and streaming glory. From the darkest dungeons to the farthest reaches of outer space, we traversed virtual landscapes with skill and determination, our every triumph and defeat broadcast to an eager audience of fellow adventurers. But it wasn't just about the games—it was about the connection. With my powerful rig, I streamed in crystal-clear HD, my every word and gesture captured with stunning clarity. And as I interacted with my viewers, sharing stories and swapping strategies, I felt a sense of camaraderie unlike anything I'd ever known.$886.96 -

I have always wanted to make a themed build around star wars! This is my first custom build and I am pretty satisfied with it. It has a ryzen 1700x, 32GB of GDDR4 2666, RTX 2070 super, asus crosshair vi hero, and all RGB is Corsair. I play all different types of games as of right now I am on that apex grind. I built this pc to get into video editing, music creation, heavy gaming and streaming. I dont have any channels yet but im working on it. I got the idea to make a pc after watching bitwit and austin evans make custom pcs inside microcenter and when i found out i live only 1 hour away from microcenter i started planning my build, obssessively checking if motherboards were in stock (the board i was looking for kept getting reserved and sold out). Then one day i see they got a shipment and so i put the items in the cart and reserve them. I only reserved the motherboard and cpu because i was afraid they would sell out. So i planned a small trip with my gf to this store an hour away. At first i was just going to leave with the parts i reserved but walking into the store i saw an opportunity to grab almost everything (excluding graphics card more on that later) for a lot cheaper than i would get in other places and instantly instead of waiting on shipping. Luckily my brother upgraded his computer a couple years back so we had an extra graphics card laying around collecting dust so i decided to wait on the gc, insert the old asus r9 380 and keep looking at microcenter for a good time to upgrade. And thats what i would use this money for. I was looking at getting a rtx 2070 super but with the money i would be saving i can shoot for a 2080 ti! Thanks for reading -Billy Juarez Proud owner of a new pc :) -edit added powersupply to complete build isnt exact model but specs are the same added graphics card i would like to buy (to see full price of build)$1,107.92 -

This PC was built with no specific purpose other than do anything my busy mind decides to focus on at any moment. I do business, photography, gaming, video editing, streaming and race sim / vr all from this bad boy. Slowly upgrading parts over time allows me to stay on top of the trends but I think I found a point where an upgrade isn't necessary (unless 3080s become easily in stock) I'll try to get better pictures later lol$1,166.94 -

Hi all, I built this rig as an upgrade from my classic i5 4690k and GTX 970 starter build and the experience has been a lot of fun. It started off as a GPU upgrade for my old build, but after some pretty bad CPU bottlenecking in Forza Horizon 4, Warzone, and Red Dead 2, I went ahead and overhauled the rest of the system. I hadn't actually planned to do a water cooled build, but I picked up the cooler master AIO second hand for $50 and then after some abysmal GPU temps under load (~85C) I decided to look into water cooling the GPU. I was able to get the Kraken G12 bracket from Microcenter for only $20 and then I snagged an EVGA CLC 120mm AIO from their B-Stock page for a whopping $30. From there I began my first custom mod of mounting the water cooler to my EVGA RTX 2070. Allegedly the Kraken G12 is incompatible with the 2070, but to my pleasant surprise the AMD mounting arms worked perfectly and I didn't even have to cut or drill anything. Now I'm able to get a solid 2070MHz clock speed and my temps cap out at 55C. Ideally I'd like to get a 240mm or 280mm AIO to put on the GPU to try and push the temp lower core clock higher, but there's no room in my current case. I did splurge a little bit in some places, like the motherboard (could've got a B450 Tomahawk instead) and sleeved cables, but they only set me back about $75 so I'd say its worth it. Otherwise every component of this build was either purchased at a significant discount or in used condition to save money. All together I was able to assemble this build for right around $1000 which I'm pretty happy with :) In hindsight I wish I'd spend a little bit more on the GPU and gone for a refurb 1080ti or maybe a 2080, but the 2070 sets me up for a good 1440p 144Hz experience. In the future I really want to change the case to an O11 Dynamic and install a larger radiator for the GPU, but for now my little waterbox is all I need.$1,177.76 -

I built this PC when I graduated university and I wanted to treat myself for being the first in the family to finish school. All 4 years of school I used a laptop to do my work and play games so once I graduated I knew getting a PC is something affordable and would bring me many years of joy! I currently use this desktop to draw CAD models, watch videos, and play games such as Valorant, League of Legends, and Halo Infinite. I love my build mainly because I customized it myself. I envied the all white minimalist desktop look and I'm glad I was able to achieve that. Something I wish I fixed is my cable management. My best friend and I built our desktops at 3AM and I was so excited to use the desktop i told myself I will fix it when I get the chance... a year and a half went by and the cables are still the same XD.$1,303.92 -

The old computer that I used mainly for gaming decided to break on me so in order to get replacement parts I would've had to wait 2 weeks for Amazon to restock. I checked the Microcenter website and realized they had everything in stock and even had some better prices. The nearest Microcenter to me was four hours away at the Marietta location in Atlanta (btw we need a Microcenter in Nashville, thanks). I figured a day trip was better than having to wait on Amazon. Since my old pc was lacking a little anyway I decided to get a big upgrade, Ryzen 3700x with an RTX 2070 Super, by far the most I've spent on a PC upgrade. I decided to go all out and try for some nice RGB, in hindsight I wish I mounted the RGB fans at the top instead of the front as I didn't realize the Lian Li LanCool 2 already had RGB on the front. This case was a dream to build in by the way and made cable management very easy. While my adventure to the great Mecca that is Microcenter was long, it was indeed worth every hour on the road. Huge shoutout to my dad for dropping everything to go with me, made for a fun trip.$1,317.93 -

The Noctua NH-D15 is damn near silent, and the triple-fan 2070 Super runs most games very quietly. RGB wasn't much of a concern (it sits below my desk) but the built-in lights on the motherboard and Maingear case logo are nice! Mostly am using it for Call of Duty Warzone right now (runs it with ray-tracing on at 144 fps, and never goes above 60 C, if that) Most of the parts came from Micro Center, but I got some really good discounts for the motherboard and GPU on Amazon Warehouse deals and Newegg's eBay page$1,344.93 -

Gaming/Streaming Rig - I built this so that I could have a nice gaming desktop for the first time. I am upgrading from a Toshiba Laptop that had a 770M. I was playing all games on the lowest settings and that was barely cutting it and it would still overheat. I am hoping to be able to play more games and high settings and stream casually as well. I play World of Tanks, Magic: the Gathering Arena, Smite, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Overwatch, Civ, and others. Future upgrades would likely be a better CPU cooler and maybe an additional chassis fan. I could also go full RGB but I am unsure if I want to do that. All in all, it is not super fancy like some of the others I've seen, but it is everything that I needed in a PC, allows me to upgrade easily later, and was my first ever PC build. Due to that, it'll always have a special place in my heart, even if it does not have the highest specs or all of the bells and whistles in appearance!$1,383.94 -

I'm not a big fan of RGB and because I can never do thing the easy way, I decided to do a custom case mod. So I built a Honduran mohogany desk that also acts as the case for the pc. Honduran Mahogany is the most stable wood you can use for furniture from an expansion and stability standpoint. Currently as it stands now, I haven’t oiled it yet, which will come when soon. It’s only version one and because I’m obsessive, I’m going to likely be working on another very soon to make it even better. I also host an Apache web server on Ubuntu server on a separate machine, so v2 of this desk will a dual or triple motherboard configuration, much cleaner, and water cooled so I can allow for much lower clearance configurations. And truthfully, I've never ever built one completely from scratch. I've tinkered and upgraded, but never a full on build. I built this computer to play RTX games like Control, other third person action games, FPS games of all kinds, and those "walking simulators" like Firewatch and What Remains of Edith Finch. I LOVE a great game story. I mostly play PC games like Destiny 2 and Deliver us the Moon... as well as fun VR games like Half-Life: Alyx & Beat Saber. I also love to stream with my family with games like Davigo VR, Fall Guys, Minecraft, Overwatch, Fortnite, Splitgate, Among Us, and others! Our Twitch channel is BurtonFamGaming. This rig is a gaming, VR, streaming PC... mostly for me (Dad), but also for the whole family (only... with Dad's permission of course. Only I have the password) :-D If I could go back, I might have waited a few months so I could purchase a 3080... but oh well. :-) I researched this for most of quarantine before finally building it about 4 weeks ago... so frankly, there's not much I would change about how I built it. The ONLY thing I wish I had done was perhaps get an X570 board or the ROG Strix B550-E so I'd get that Gen 2 Type C front header. I also plan to upgrade to 32 gigs of ram before long... but besides that, I'm really happy with it!$1,494.91 -

I sold my last system (Mad Hatter) the week the Ryzen 3000 series came out. But I didn't have a case to put the new cpu and mobo into. So I made my own makeshift 'test bench-esque' case with random things I happened to have. A few months later, a buddy of mine was finishing up some home projects and I asked him to make me a T frame with any left over wood he had. Fast forward 9 months later, and I finally got the chance to start this project. CPU/MOBO/RAM - Purchased from Microcenter 7/7/19. SSD/HDD - My previous configuration had too many drives. So I got the NVME ssd for the essentials and two 2tb hdds, one for games the other for recordings. GPU - A reason to give my old GTX 1080 to my g/f. CPU Cooler - I knew I wanted to go back to air with this build. I didn't realize this cooler was... this big. CASE - Extra wood a buddy had left over after making a shelf. Extras - Acrylics and Acrylic bender from Performance-PCS. I originally planned this to also have a handle. I purchased the MNPC Tech cnc handles. But as I was building, I realized how heavy this would be. So I'll save those for the next/smaller build. **June Update** Replaced the acrylic panel below the gpu with a wider version. The gpu now looks sad at night. I wanted to upgrade my pc and since everything on my previous pc was outdated I decided to give that to my dad. I then built a new one centered around my current RTX 2070 with the goals of high end gaming and streaming on the side. In hindsight I should’ve just upgraded my 2070 because the level I play games at in terms of settings makes it difficult to actually stream some games because my GPU is running at 100% load.$1,609.94 -

I have plans to vertical mount the GPU, upgrade my RAM to 32GB @ 3600Mhz, add custom PSU cables, and upgrade my 240mm AIO to a 280MM AIO. So far, the main use of this machine is folding@home, relatively light gaming (if you can call NFS Heat on Ultra details @ 1080P light....) and media consumption.$1,609.94 -

My old laptop was dying so decided to build a PC to kill time in the middle of this Covid. I first built a budget system under $800 for some light CAD, youtube, 4K playback, coding and web browsing. But after 2 weeks. I felt this strong urge to "upgrade" because who doesn't want to be a PC master race, right, right (please say yes so I don't feel bad about my decision)? Anyways, my brain said "no" but my hands took out the credit card and now I am here posting this. I am starting to think that this rig might be too big, and looking at some ITX builds now. I should let my wife keep the credit card because that "urge to upgrade" is hitting me again.$1,613.94 -

Never really was into PC gaming, but decided I would give it a try. Definitely wanted to build my own instead of opting for a pre-build. After building and rebuilding it 8 times my first night, it worked and has been flawless ever since. I built it for a variety of reasons - game, stream, edit. I've been playing COD, Halo, The Last of Us, Old School Runescape, and GTA V so far. Haven't streamed any games yet, but have started an amateur movie podcast with some buddies. We've streamed the podcast live on Twitch a few times, and it has been a blast. The PC handles everything and runs very smooth.$1,631.87 -

I built this pc so I would be able to play games with my friends and be more productive while doing schoolwork at home. I am mostly playing Overwatch, Valorant, and Apex Legends. I use my computer every day, whether I am programming and doing school work, or playing games. I usually play eSports titles like CS:GO and Rocket League, as well as COD:MW, and of course some single player games like the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and looking forward to new releases like Cyberpunk 2077. My PC and internet connection are able to handle 1080p/60fps streams on Twitch, but I only stream occasionally or when my friends and I are doing a long gaming session. Obviously, my theme with the PC has been a black and white theme. I am a big Star Wars fan and it only made sense to throw in a bobblehead First Order Stormtrooper. I also added in the mini AE86 license plate because I was always a huge fan of the Trueno AE86 from Initial D, and now I own the newer Toyota 86, with a white and black look, so it add more of my personality to the build. If there was something that I would change about my PC would probably be the case. The S340 Elite has served me well, but I have been on the look out for a case worthy enough for the upgrade. So when the Lian Li Lancool II and mesh versions came out, I saw the great review and even better I could easily keep the same look. As you can see, my PC is already doing everything that I need and I have no complaints. So why did I enter the PC Showcase contest? Well, I have a friend, who will remain nameless, who has been live streaming and doing video edits for his YouTube channel on an FX processor and a GTX 970. My friends and I have been saving up money to surprise him with a new build for his birthday, which is coming up soon. (hopefully he doesn't see this so it can remain a surprise) So that is why I have entered this contest, so that hopefully my friends and I, can get more help in building a PC that would be a HUGE upgrade for him. If I do end up making it into the top 5, I want to thank Micro Center for giving me the chance of winning. Regardless on if I win, I plan on putting a simple video together on my Youtube channel that will have my friends reaction to the new PC we are able to afford getting him. Thank you for taking the time to read my entry, keep on gaming! Disclaimer: I edited the picture of the PC when it is on to try to match the colors of the RGB LED strips closer to what they actually look like$1,689.89 -

I built this gaming computer to switch over from console gaming to PC gaming with the focus in high frame rates. I have had a passion for computer building for a few years now thanks to Youtubers like Jayztwocents, Bitwit, Paul's Hardware, Linus Sebastian from LTT. With this build I focused on price per performance at the start and over a year switched out parts and upgraded where I felt like a needed improvement to get where I am now with my rig. I also did the best I could with cable management to make it look as clean as I possibly can. the last and only upgrades I want for my build is two 140mm fans for my front intakes to even out the air flow within my case. I will always work and continue to perfect this build as long as I own it.$1,703.92 -

It was overdue to upgrade from a HP Pavilion and old laptop and wanted to experience building a stronger PC than the prebuilt ones. It's built for production work and Monster Hunter World. Future upgrades may include an aftermarket CPU air cooler, custom sleeved cables and Lian Li SL120 Uni fans for a cleaner look and cable management. Throughout the process, I have considered a blackout build; however, RGB is a bit addicting to look at and due to availability issues for certain parts. To compromise, I opted to have only my cooling parts to have RGB hoping for a somehow minimalist or dual toned look.$1,759.86 -

I saved up enough money from my summer job for a pc for gaming and everyday use. I play games like COD, Warzone, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Sea of Thieves. I went for a build that was powerful enough to handle all my games with ease and future proof the PC for a bit. I tried not to overkill it with the components. Some future upgrades would be maybe adding some more storage as games like warzone take up a ton of storage, and maybe add some cable extensions for an even cleaner look.$1,759.91 -

Didn't want to go crazy without the confidence that it would work the first time I assembled it. Ben at Madison Heights was easy to work with to secure all the parts. Build took 3 hours from start to getting Windows to load in. Install went without a hitch and everything seems to be working perfectly. The GPU was a good compromise from what I wanted (2080 Ti) to what made sense. I'd recommend the EVGA 2070 Super to anyone that is on a budget. I went simple on the case, it was easy to work in and cord management was good. The temps on everything is great as well.$1,851.89 -
