King Midas
by Eduardo G Posted on: 6/9/2023Build Description
This was my first impulse buy after starting my new job! Its a mostly competent gaming build with plenty of room for high-end performance under any load. I spend plenty of time playing games, as well as working with Adobe products and Unity. I also enjoy the fact that I can get away with recording my gameplay while guaranteeing a smooth gaming experience as well.
Out of the box, getting this bad boy built was a struggle, and I even ran into a major problem with the 4080 not fitting! Thankfully, I was able to get a vertical PCIe mount for it and everything fit just fine. This was also my first build with an AIO which was definitely a shaky experience. I debated whether or not to go for the 4090, but since I wasn't planning on gaming in 4K, I went with the 4080. I bought it at around MSRP and even still it was the most expensive part in this whole build.
I had an issue out of the box with the CPU temperatures. I knew Intel chip temperatures weren't so great, but under 100% load, I was hitting around 90+ Celsius - even 100c! However, after reseating my AIO, updating the BIOS, and undervolting my CPU, I am pleased to say I am only getting 83c MAX at 100%.
The case is probably my favorite part of this whole build. I did not want to skimp out on the RGB, as you can tell, and I think it paid off! I am in love with the Infinity Mirror design in the front of the case. Too many times I see the exact some front in gaming PCs. It's either RGB fans and meshes, which I think look awful, or a solid panel, which isn't too bad, but the infinity mirror blows them all away!

Favorite Feature
Overall, I am super happy about this build and if I had anything poor to say about it is that, while 4x16 GB sticks of RAM is nice, I would have been better off going for two sticks instead, since XMP is currently not working for 4 sticks of RAM. This is widely known and the usual symptoms include boot loops and sudden reboots. There are ways of fixing this but I have yet to come across a successful one. I'll either sell the extra 32 GB, or wait for a motherboard update to fix this issue. I'm just not super happy that having more sticks leads to worse performance.
