To run Unraid and allow passthrough of PCI devices! Went with Asus TUF motherboard (versus cheapest B660 Microcenter sold) to in theory get better VRM for any future, higher core count, CPU upgrade. That said, at six cores the i5-12400 already has two more cores than the i7-3770k it replaced. Primary reason for upgrading was to have VT-d support for device passthrough to VMs.
