The Build I Wasn't Expecting To Build, But Here I Am #Cupid2022
by Reverse E Posted on: 2/15/2022Build Description
One day, I decided to upgrade my GPU. My PC had been running well for a year and a half featuring a 1660 and 3600X, but my GPU just wasn't cutting it anymore for VR. I managed to order an RTX 3070 Strix at the Best Buy online drop, and waited anxiously for it to be ready. It finally arrived about 2 weeks after I ordered it. I went to pick it up in-store, and came home ready to upgrade my PC. Only to realize that my motherboard had some tall slots and it couldn't fit. I felt very frustrated, but I was offered a solution by a friend of mine. They traded me a new motherboard and a bigger case to fit it. I was more than happy to take the offer, and ended up picking up a used 3700X off Hardwareswap for $150. I used a lot of my old parts combined with my new CPU, GPU, case, and motherboard and here I am today. I started the day thinking I'll get a new GPU, and went to sleep having an entirely different PC build.
Looking back, I'm glad I made the choices I did. I'm afraid that the current shortages are getting worse. I'm glad I was able to build this now, and get a good deal on it as well. One of the first things I did was to try Beat Saber modded. I was just amazed at how much better the game looks and feels. I'm not entirely finished yet- I do want to get a a vertical mount to show off my GPUs, and potentially a liquid cooling setup.
However, after all my recent upgrades, I'll definitely have to wait a while for that. I'm happy I was able to do this build, and I wish everyone else good luck in their 2022 PC building endeavors!

Favorite Feature
I really love the giant 200mm fans at the front. They look awesome, especially when the RGB is set to match with the rest of the build. The aesthetics of the Lancool 215 are great. My Strix GPU is absolutely the centerpiece of this build. The RGB accents are incredible, and I can't wait to vertical mount it one day. I like how the heatsink is hidden on Strix cards. I find heatsinks to be somewhat ugly through the tempered glass, so I prefer the Strix hugely for that reason. Aesthetics weren't a big deal with my old budget build, but they sure are now!
