Mini NAS with Proxmox This build was an attempt at a: Minimal Physical Space Power Efficiency Performance Cost I used the onboard NIC with a managed switch and "Tagged" VLAN IDs into a couple of subnets where different VMs reside. I'm running 4 instances of Ubuntu Server for security camera recordings, general file storage, backups (UrBackups) and DNS sink hole (AdGuard Home). None of these require much in regards of compute resources (memory/cpu). For this reason, the 8500G seems like a nice fit to balance performance, price and efficiency. Nothing special was configured with Proxmox and I have not explored any passthrough features yet with exception of passing a few mechanical drives to the security camera VM. At idle with (2) 7200 rpm 3.5" drives the power draw is ~42 watts. Without the mech drives it rest at 35 idle. In operation...it still generally rest in the low 45's with small bumps when the cache write to the mech drives spawns an actual write (all measured with a Kilo-A-Watt meter). If you want a small business/home server, with the option to host larger VMs that isn't terribly expensive or power hungry, this isn't a bad setup. You can certainly host my current 24/7 VMs on a much less capable system with no perceivable performance difference, but everything is a case of what-ifs, present circumstances and just having fun playing with new stuff. Power wise with x86 desktop systems, ATX boards, standard PSU's...this one runs about as light as any of them at idle. There are mini PC's that use a lot less power, but then you are generally using USB mass storage and lack a PCIe slot for expansion, which in my case, this was not acceptable. I am actually replacing a NUC that was currently using an external 8TB USB 3.0 drive and this ended up being a not so great solution for 24/7 camera recordings, it works but barely when dealing with 8+ 4k cameras and also needing to do remote playback. I hope this helps for those looking for information as a mini server. So far, no issues.$570.17 -

Been working in IT for a while but never got around to building a PC until now. Was previously using basic laptops and a MacBook Pro from ~2017 which were usable but not great for gaming. Made this for gaming, personal coding projects, and messing around with Linux, VMs, and sysadmin stuff. Budget was $800, was willing to go a bit higher but actually ended up bit lower. All parts except GPU were purchased new. CPU/Mobo/RAM were a Micro Center AMD bundle, with 32GB DDR5 added instead of the single 16GB stick. Mobo seems decent, although it interestingly still has VGA and PS/2 connectors that I probably won't ever use. I liked the Fractal Pop Mini Air case. Fits the microATX mobo great and is a bit smaller than a regular mid-tower so it doesn't leave a bunch of wasted space for the PCIe slots that aren't there. The build quality seems a bit better than other cases I was looking at too. It was pretty easy to get everything in, although wiring the rear fans was a bit tricky with the limited cable lengths and I ended up just daisy-chaining the cables to the front fan, which then plugs into the mobo so the cables are a bit sloppy. The fans are RGB but I currently have them set to solid white for now. I'm not using the 5.25" bay on the bottom front which is covered by a kinda finicky magnetic cover, but there's some extra SATA HDD/SDD trays down there which are nice. So far the Radeon 6700 XT has been great, I've been playing Death Stranding with maxed settings on my 4K TV which is way better than what my old laptops could handle, and of course older games also run great maxed out. Haven't really tried anything newer since I didn't think my laptops would handle it very well. Should be a good PC to upgrade in the future with AM5 and a newer GPU when the time comes.$779.26 -

I had an (probably 10 years) old computer that I built and have been using it daily ever since. At two separate points throughout it's lifecycle, I made two massive upgrades - 1) going from an HDD boot drive to an SSD, and 2) upgrading the video card from one that was mid-range at the time of installation to a modern mid-range card. The video card upgrade was probably 3-4 years ago. Now that I am permanently remote in my day job, I get to spend an enormous amount of time on sitting at my computer. With new lines of CPUs having just been released, I figured now was as good of time as any to do a full, much-needed rebuild of my daily PC. I work on my computer for the full day, every day, and work on side projects (web development, writing, etc.) in the evenings. I do some gaming, but haven't really had a capable machine to really enjoy it in many years. With that, I am many years behind on PC games, so I don't need to play the latest and greatest. With that, and a budget, in mind, I built the whole system from the ground up, but decided to reuse the existing video card. GPU prices are ever-so-slightly beginning to come down, so I thought I'd wait a bit to buy one while catching up on the past 6-8 years of games I haven't been able to play.$869.93 -

The "UltraGame Dominator" was designed to be an absolute gaming powerhouse capable of crushing modern titles at ultra settings with impressive FPS numbers. With a Ryzen 5 5600X at the core and an RTX 3060 12GB GPU, this rig is built to provide smooth performance in a wide variety of competitive games like Fortnite at 360+ FPS, Warzone at 200+ FPS, and GTA FiveM at 200+ FPS, even at high/ultra settings. These specs ensure that I have an edge in fast-paced games like Valorant, CS, and Rainbow Six Siege, where high frame rates are essential. The 32GB of RAM ensures excellent multitasking, while the combination of a Kingston NVMe2 SSD and a Samsung 990 EVO guarantees lightning-fast boot and load times for both the operating system and games. The inclusion of Wi-Fi makes this build versatile, allowing me to game or stream wirelessly if needed, and Windows 11 provides the latest gaming optimizations. Besides gaming, this machine also serves as a content creation platform, where I edit gameplay footage and stream to Twitch. With the included keyboard, mouse, and microphone, it's a well-rounded setup for gaming, streaming, and video editing. In hindsight, I might consider upgrading the GPU in a few years or possibly adding custom cooling or RGB for more visual flair. Future upgrades could also include expanding the storage as newer games require more space.$921.94 -

I built this PC for general purpose usage (web browsing, image editing, software development, maybe some light gaming, etc). I'm pretty happy with it overall. My only complaint might be that I can hear the fans quietly whirring when the room is quiet, but I suppose that's to be expected with a mesh case, and it's not really an issue. I will probably add a couple of HDDs from my old computer for additional storage, but the 1TB SSD is plenty of space and super fast. If I decide to get into PC gaming in the future, I will upgrade the graphics card when prices come down; but the T600 seems more than adequate for general usage.$939.93 -
