This PC was sort of a collection of impulse purchases that I ultimately built into a complete rig to sell once completed. It turned out quite well and looked both tasteful and professional thanks to the LianLi Lancool 205m mesh case with included RGB fans. I've been a big fan of the lancool 205 series and the 205m mesh is one of my favorite affordable cases of late. The pairing of Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 6800 is a little odd but worked out to be great for 1440p gaming or light 4k gaming in games that are less CPU intensive, while saving power and money. Everything runs cool and quiet for this build, and the total came in less than $700 at the time of building thanks to Microcenter bundle discounts.$754.94 -

This is a home NAS system running TrueNAS 13 (at the time of building), plus a modded Minecraft server inside a Virtual Machine and a Plex Media server running inside a BSD Jail. I picked the case for the hot-swappable drive bays and wasn't disappointed, they work perfectly as advertised and I should be able to expand it going forward if needed. The additional fans are quiet and keep everything well managed. Although it's worth noting that the case includes its own fan that is connected to the drive bays by a 2pin fan header, meaning it will always run at maximum RPM, and is quite loud. Bafflingly, the fan is actually a 4-pin PWM fan, and I would highly recommend connecting it to the motherboard via a Y-splitter to other case fans, rather than using the case header. Also, being a reasonably cheap case for the feature-set, it does not feature folded metal edges, the metal panels have very sharp internal edges and I did actually slash my finger quite badly installing one of the fans. But aside from that everything went relatively smoothly and I'm very happy with the performance so far.$973.77 -

The 2800 MHz memory (what's shown in the build list is what I could find - it's the same Corsair Ripjaws, but 2800 MHz instead of 3200) is run at 2733 MHz because reliability matters more than speed. The fabric infinity scarf that can be seen in one photo is there to help capture dust coming in. It gets removed and washed every few months. This was built to run 24/7 for the next several years with, hopefully, as few problems and interruptions as possible,$1,629.89 -

Went with Asus TUF motherboard (versus cheapest B660 Microcenter sold) to in theory get better VRM for any future, higher core count, CPU upgrade. Upgrading from a 4650k, I've been on the fence for a new AMD PC build for a few years now, ever since the 3600X. Unfortunately, the 3600X did not come with an IGP. The 4XXX series were not available for enthusiast or DIY purchase, and so, here we are in 2022, when the 5600g was finally available and prices are reasonable. This build is a good balance between performance and price. Getting the most performance out of each dollar spent, without cutting corners on quality where it matters. It's not the most flashy build, nor the fastest, but it is solid and will be running years into the future. The only major thing that's missing is the graphics card. I will add it when prices come back down to earth. In the meantime, this build will run just fine without one.$705.96 -

The server is running a desktop version of ubuntu and I use docker to run all the applications I need for development or just to run my media on. This is the full components list for the PC Wendell assembled in our Sharonville, Ohio store for his video about the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x processor. In his video, Wendell was tasked with assembling the following components to create an extremely powerful $10,000 workstation PC. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x just launched today on February 7, 2020. This processor has 64 cores, 128 threads, and 256mb cache. This processor will turn the visual effects industry on its head, but will also be hugely beneficial for certain programmers. In the future, Wendell would recommend water cooling the GPUs, but even still this machine is like nothing else on the market.$9,794.88
