Like the fox who was unable to reach the grapes he wanted in Aesop's Fables, the last several months for me has been an exercise in futility. I've wasted a ton of time trying to obtain one of the new nvidia rtx 5000 series cards, specifically my ideal rtx 5080, only to end up in absolute failure. There are still people camping outside my local microcenter store awaiting the next shipment. I ultimately decided not to sink to this level of desperation and just buy another graphics card. I wanted something decent to get my by until 5080s became realistically available. I also wanted something with a sizable chunk of vram that would allow me to play games a 4k resolution if I so desired. The rest of the build was pieced together as basically a budget-focused construction that was good enough to not bottleneck a new card (like a 5080, which may or may not exist at this pont). My current solution is an Intel B580, which has also been in demand but happened to be availble for me one day at microcenter. And now that I'm using it, you know what? I didn't want to spend that extra $800 anyway. This might have been a wiser choice in the end. Lets the games commence! (..but mostly at 1440p for now).$1,162.92 -

It's been working great so far. I have not encountered any games this PC couldn't run. This setup is absolutely perfect for 1440p gaming. The only thing I would not suggest in this build is the 1500-watt PSU. It's unnecessary. I got it during a sale and I didn't know what I was doing. My last build was 7 years old and not compatible with the latest versions of Windows (not that I *really* wanted to make the... Upgrading the DDR-3 ram to DDR-4 or 5 would require upgrading the motherboard, upgrading the motherboard would require upgrading the processor, an upgraded processor would make my GPU a bottleneck... So I'd basically be building a whole new PC. So I built a whole new PC. It's about half the size, as well. I mostly plan to use it for gaming. I've been playing a lot of Darktide and Hogwarts Legacy, planning on playing some Cyberpunk as well. Also Guild Wars (1), but this PC doesn't change the way I play games from 2007 at all. I also homebrew tabletop rpgs and make character sheets for games I like with character sheets I don't like. In the future I may buy a monitor that supports more than 60hz, and maybe a mechanical keyboard without a num pad, since I really only use it to type in my pin these days, and it will save on desk space.$2,247.86 -

Played through Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty 2.0 with ray tracing on low and native 1440p (no upscaling) and was able to get a solid 60 (sometimes more depending on location). Will be swapping ram with a RAM kit from the motherboards QVL list soon, with tighter timings and hopefully a working XMP.$2,587.78 -
