am4 is back from the dead! or so i recently learned. my nephews recently told me they wanted an upgrade from an aging... am4 is back from the dead! or so i recently learned. my nephews recently told me they wanted an upgrade from an aging ryzen 1600 processor. at first i thought i might be difficult to find a new processor for socket am4 now that amd has moved on to am5. but after some researching, i learned that surprisingly amd recently released a new line of am4 cpu's. even better, my local microcenter had one available. in addition to the new amd ryzen 5600t processor, i also added a new kit of ddr4. i also transitioned away from a few old sata ssd's and consolidated all the storage into a single m2 ssd. as for rgb, we felt that green suited our new zombie project the best. this zombie of a build will live on, running games on their 6600 like minecraft, spiderman, overwatch, etc.$744.94 -

In the future, I might upgrade the storage to 1TB or consider adding more RAM to push into content creation. Looking back, I might have opted for a slightly higher-end CPU or GPU for future-proofing, but overall, I’m thrilled with how this build turned out.$792.92 -

Something like a 7800x3d would've been worth it in the competitive scene, but I still got a great deal with the microcenter bundle. I bought 2 bundles from Microcenter - CPU+memory+motherboard and then ASUS Prime case + motherboard + psu bundle. I sold the motherboard from the CPU bundle (since it was regular size ATX board). The build posed some minor challenges which i loved. The Asus Prime case did not allow fitting the Arctic 280 cooler so i had to change one of the fans to a slim profile fan (as you can see in the pic). The HD drive was not easy to mount either. I am not much of a gamer though - but I play Far Cry 6, Metro: Last Light, Counter Strike, GTA V.$1,473.89 -
