This build was fueled by 1, needing a computer to use for everyday things, 2, wanting to play some light games like Minecraft and Portal, and 3, trying to remain within a decent budget. If I was to do it all over again, I would probably have gotten a better CPU. When I bought my CPU it cost me about $100 due to the silicon shortages of the past couple year; now it's only worth around $50.$574.97 -

This build's main focus was to make a gaming PC that can play games fairly well while being as cheap as possible. Wasn’t 100% sure that I’d want to make a switch from console gaming so I did settle for the much maligned 6500 XT to avoid spending a fortune on a higher tier or used GPU that I might not end up using as much. I’m using this for normal tasks and light gaming. The 6500 XT works well enough for Overwatch and Fortnite but struggles when you notch up graphics quality to the highest tier. I don’t recommend the card unless it’s in your price range and you have reasonable expectations. The M.2 ran a bit warm under heavy data transfers even with the MSI Frozr heatsink that came with the mobo. The ineo heatsink actually works which was a bit of a surprise. Barely fits in between the stock Wraith CPU cooler and the GPU. If you want to use the fan, know that it’s loud and better set to come on when the GPU and/or CPU gets warmer. The stock Wraith cooler works for me and 5600x has only been on the warmer side a few times under heavy load. Stress testing does cause it to run hot so a better cooler is needed if you’re really pushing the 5600x. I haven’t been able to get the Corsair RGB RAM to sync with MSI Mystic even though it’s supposedly compatible. I can use Corsair’s software to control it but it’s buggy if Mystic is being used. I have mixed feelings about the Starryfort case. If you want basic RGB and fans it can be a good budget tower if it’s priced correctly. I wouldn’t buy it for higher performance builds. The front airflow isn’t great (intake design issue) and the wiring does feel a little cheap. It has a board for all the RGB plugs in the back and only takes up one RGB slot on the mobo. Be mindful it’s only 3 pin RGB for the case. Fans are all molex, too. It works with Mystic but it’s not that impressive. The case button for the lighting presets is the way to go. There’s only one removable PCI slot for the GPU. The rest are punch outs which really fried me. There’s also a spot in the front that would be perfect for USB-C but is plugged. The mobo is pretty nice and came with a sticker stating it was Ryzen 5 series ready. No issues on first start up. The Wi-Fi antennas are kind of finicky and ill placed. Wi-Fi signal reception seems weak as well.$1,191.92 -

Apparently, 11 out of 10 case mods currently are Cyberpunk 2077 themed, so I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Of course, it had to be water cooled, too, and I haven't water cooled a system since the days of cutting your own window in a beige case and milling your own waterblocks. Thankfully, though, The days of shopping the plumbing department of Ace Hardware are a thing of the past, and I can just walk into a store and pay an entire seperate computer's worth of money for premade stuff! Having a 3d printer department in a store that's not located on a starship somewhere in the future was also amazingly helpful, and made the relearning curve of this entire mod bananas. Now I have an entirely new hobby that my wife can yell at me for enjoying. My initial vision was of a custom reservoir with a cyborg floating inside, with blood red fluid running through the tubes, like the sci-fi movie cliche where swimming in goo replaces all hospital beds, but then i realized that this is not my day job, so i improvised and bought a kit. I mean, what's a cyberpunk theme without a bubbling vat of person? The future is also shaped like a hexagon, so I added an aluminum hexagon pattern to the front panel of my case, and partly on top. I added 40 caliber shells with magnets inside, to the back panel for extra awesome. I've been eye-balling the Phanteks Enthoo 719 for some time, because I love full tower cases, and this sucker is a beast. Also, who has 2 thumbs and finally saved up enough money for a 2080 ti 2 months before the 30xx series is released? Oh yeah, this guy! Honestly, the card was worth the long wait, and chugs along maxed out at 4k, at around 37 degrees. Now all that was left was to bleed the system for a week straight, and add a half gallon of water to an improvised vase on the top of my case. This adventure is not for the faint of heart, and gives me nightmares, but the enthoo 719 weighs about as much as a Space X Falcon Heavy, so it should hold. The logo, fan grill, and cylinder base were all printed with a Creality CR-10. The base is just an enlarged fan grill available on Thermaltake's website. Homage paid to Akira and Elysium in the form of exoskeleton spine parts used as a cable cover.$3,973.82 -

The Inspiration: This is a build based on a wonderful car that I'd like to, and will.. get my hands on.. the Audi RS5 Sportback! I became really excited to model my build after this special car, shortly after the inspiration to merge the RS5's sporty looks with a powerful gaming computer came to me. This was my 3rd build, although the former(s) were built over 10 years ago. I am so happy to get back into building again, and was so proud to build something that could also match the performance of its vehicle counterpart too! As you can see from my list, I went with an Intel i9-9900K (OC 5gz @ 1.29V), to go with an EVGA RTX 2080Ti XC Ultra, and a 32Gb DDR4 ram kit from Corsair. More Details: The choice for the mobo was easy, since MSI is well known for adding carbon fiber accents to their product line.. which happened to match the interior and exterior styling of the high-end performance vehicle my rig is modeled after. In fact, one of my most favorite ideas for this build was to apply some carbon fiber wrap around the cable management bar (Thanks NZXT!), which matches the absolutely stunning inlays from the RS5 interior (go check it out on the Audi website if you'd like). The sporty RS5 logo/emblem was definitely my other favorite feature, which I felt added an extra level of aggressiveness to the interior of the machine. Also, Audi is known for their racing geckos, which represent the stability of Audi's Quattro AWD system (aaand also hopefully represents the stability of my overclock!), which I thought was a nice touch to the build as well. As you can imagine, this rig performs like a dream, and crushes mostly everything at max settings (including Minesweeper for those wondering). All in all, I am really happy with how it turned out, and I hope it inspires other motivated builders and DIY'ers in this PC Gaming community. Gaming is here to stay folks, and is exploding in popularity. Who am I kidding?! I want to build another! AND ANOTHER! Ahhh!! Can anyone else relate? lol.$2,008.96 -

He wanted to build a new system and give his old one to his sister. He didn't keep up with hardware news so he didn't know what to purchase and also didn't want to do the build by himself, so he asked me to help him. Build is used for gaming and school, and possibly streaming in the future. He is also considering video editing as a possible use for his system. To that end, I advised him to go with AMD and in the end, he just went with everything that I recommended. I'm a bit surprised that he wanted to go with water cooling, and honestly, it was my first time ever doing a custom loop for anyone. I wish that I had more time to polish the build (and manage the cables better), but I had to work at his place and be home at a reasonable time. Since he was a bit far away, I could only manage two visits: one for building the system itself and one for installing the soft tube loop when the parts finally arrived.$4,094.93 -

Haven't had a capable gaming pc in over 10 years and haven't actually built systems in over 20 years (my bro and I used to as teenagers). When my wife gave birth to our second son and we got a nice tax refund, my wife gave me the all-clear to get myself a new system. Bought a prebuilt at first but due to problems with the system and poor customer service, I returned it and got to researching my own build. The system started off on a Gigabyte board and NZXT case, but after more problems with certain parts, I ended up with an almost completely Corsair build. Out of all of the customer service issues I had to deal with, they are simply the best: no hassle, no run around, just fast RMA. As for the system, I use it to play mostly single player RPGs or FPS games. I love the Metro series, Divinity games, The Witcher games, Resident Evil, BattleTech and MechWarrior, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Deus Ex, and so many others. Recently I played most of the latest games with real time ray traced effects and I'm eagerly anticipating where the technology is heading. Really looking forward to a couple of other games that will feature the technology in Cyberpunk 2077 and Vampire Bloodlines 2. Also really looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3. Currently enjoying Season 2 of The Division 2 with my brother, and really hoping that the next Control DLC will feature Alan Wake as many expect it to be! In the future, I hope to install a hard line custom loop, likely in the Hydro X series since I already have a Commander Pro and have already installed a soft tube Hydro X loop for a friend. Sadly, I can't find a water block for my card (they appear to be EOL both at EVGA and EKWB - Corsair doesn't make one for my model), so if I want to go custom loop, I'll probably have to get a new card. Otherwise, I don't really plan any other upgrades until I replace the system maybe in five years, especially since Z390 is also the end for upgrades.$4,927.85 -

Now that I work-from-home almost exclusively and 2012 was the last time you could buy an upgradable Macbook Pro, I've decided to jump ship and move to something I can actually upgradable and more powerful. Now I just need to get used to Window's CTRL vs Mac's CMD which is in the same spot as ALT. The first day using this for my design work I hit ALT+Z about 400 times which brings up Geforce Experience overlay. LOL I built this computer using Micro Center's Custom PC Builder, reserved my parts online, and picked up my parts hours later. Pretty cool being able to put together a complete build and pick up your parts the same day. The Custom PC Builder has compatibility filters so it only shows parts that will work together based on your selections. Although build this computer myself because I really enjoy the building process. For a small fee, Micro Center offers a building service which they will put together the hardware, and make sure it posts. For a bit extra cost they can even install Windows, appropriate drivers, and make sure it's up and running before you pick it up. You could literally pick out your parts on a lunch break and pick up a working computer after work, they just need a 4-hour window to build it.$3,227.88 -

Can run all triple A games at max setting with great frames, I currently run modern warfare at all max setting 120+ fps. If I could do over one upgrade that I would have changed is the mobo. The Lian Li case is fantastic and can fit up to 9 fans.$4,506.77 -

This is a top of the line Intel based gaming behemoth. All of the components were chosen because they were, and still are, top of the line for a gaming rig. The customer brought the machine in this year for a water cooling upgrade. Planning for the custom loop was rather difficult, as the open air design of the case does not leave very many mounting options. The final result was well worth the effort. The case used for this build is the InWin D-Frame 2.0, which comes equipped with a built in 1065w power supply.$4,940.51 -
