Been upgrading this box for almost 8 years now, building off of the very well-supported AM4 platform. Started with 1st generation Ryzen and upgraded all the way to 5th generation Ryzen. It's running Proxmox and virtualizing TrueNAS and an Ubuntu VM that is running my Plex server. I sometimes spin up a Minecraft container as well to play with my friends!

  Needed a PC for CAD modeling. It had to have 128GB of RAM. I wanted to go current gen AMD, but was not sure about stability... Needed a PC for CAD modeling. It had to have 128GB of RAM. I wanted to go current gen AMD, but was not sure about stability with 4 sticks DDR5 and Ryzen7000. I've heard it is doable but only at speeds below 4400 MT/s. I ended up with tried-and-true 5950x and DDR4 cranked up to 3200 MT/s. Went with matte black, no-RGB and no sleeved cables.

This build was fueled by 1, needing a computer to use for everyday things, 2, wanting to play some light games like Minecraft and Portal, and 3, trying to remain within a decent budget. If I was to do it all over again, I would probably have gotten a better CPU. When I bought my CPU it cost me about $100 due to the silicon shortages of the past couple year; now it's only worth around $50.

I wanted to make myself a modern day linux-based steam machine, that doubles as a build server for work as well as a host for plex/nas/etc, hence the strong cpu Loved the case for the DIY-ability and the m2 mounting holes absolutely everywhere. This new anodized version is a bit sturdier as well Runs NixOS along with sunshine to stream games and video to my tv/switch/laptop. Containers are setup for home-assistent and its setup as a distributed build machine so I can offload any compilation from my laptop onto this over the network

  I had a few parts left over from shuffling parts around between my main desktop and NAS box and decided to upgrade my wife's... I had a few parts left over from shuffling parts around between my main desktop and NAS box and decided to upgrade my wife's machine. Nothing spectacular here, just finding some good deals and some bargain parts to complete an upgrade. Overall works great, and didn't really encounter much problems with the Intel Arc card, which I was a bit worried about given the drivers aren't fully stable yet.
