I had some spare parts lying around, so I decided to see what I could cobble together in the most ridiculous system possible. This is not a serious system, but I sure find it funny to look at. It's probably coming apart later when I get bored poking at it. So far it tries to turn on and output video, but my monitor refuses to show an image on the screen and displays a message about being unable to display the desired resolution. This is basically a single board computer with a bunch of nonsense tacked on. The GPU is ornamental, and has the only fan present in this computer. The CPU cooler is entirely passive, and I'm pretty sure this board doesn't even need any fans given that this line of CPUs caps out at 10W. Look at the price listed and then look at the components. The majority of this price is the case and PSU, which were used only because they weren't currently being used. This really would be better suited to use a cheapo PSU out of a 10 year old prebuilt and a cardboard box.$203.98 -

After already having a decent looking build I decided I wanted to build something different. I remodel homes for a living and have been modyfing my truck for 7 years so I had a pretty good Idea of what I wanted to build. I bought this beige/almond antique looking atx case that was in decent body shape. I knew airflow was going to be an issue so I decided to add 1"x1" aluminum legs, this are usually used as spacers for putting up wall frames. Next thing was cutouts on the bottom for intake and ontop for exhaust as this case only had 1-80mm fan for exhaust. I bought grille inserts from AC Infitny that fit 2-120mm fans. I made all the custom work on the case then proceeded to repainting it almond outside and black inside. Now the pc parts on this build were almost all free, the ryzen 2700 was my old cpu that was in storage, the gigabyte aurous x470 was given to me in exchange for a 12 pack of coca colas, thank you to the guy who traded me. The ssd was free via micro centers coupon, then I used rewards from best buy to get a sandisk 500gb nvme m.2. I also picked up an open box evga 700w bronze psu from best buy for $25. For ram I got 16gb 3200mhz t force from a person for $30. The gpu is a gigabyte 5500xt that I bought when gpus where cheap. The fans in the pc are from my old pc case which are different ontop and on bottom but they do the job. This pc is going to be my daughters and all she plays is roblox, minecraft.$240.00 -

Once I outgrew it and upgraded parts, my wife (girlfriend at the time) wanted a desktop to type her college papers on, and do light gaming, such as The Sims 3. She got my GTX 1060 when I upgraded that, a new SSD, and a new PSU, but everything else is my original parts! I do not remember what I paid for any of these items, as I bought them at local gaming stores and not an online retailer$264.96 -

It did its job, but it was starting to fail, and honestly, it was so slow and the tiny cooling fan was really high pitched and loud. After my love of building reignited with my own system, I decided to finally do something about my parents' system. Also, they help watch my kids when my wife and I are busy, and it's important to have a system that is snappy and responsive in Windows or YouTube or Netflix Kids, etc. Building in the In Win Chopin is definitely a treat. It's beautiful and my parents love that it doesn't take up too much space on their desk. In order to get the side panel closed, I had to remove the fan shroud from the Wraith Stealth cooler (easily done by removing a single screw from underside of the heat sink and undoing four clips, though this isn't possible if the cooler is already mounted). This was my first time building in such a small enclosure, and hopefully it won't be my last! I still need to build a system for my eldest son when he gets old enough. Probably will stick to mini ITX so that I can teach him to take his system out and clean it when necessary.$269.97 -
