Google AIY Voice FAQ

What is it?

A build it yourself kit that allows makers to have easy access to the Google Assistant SDK and voice recognition software.

What does it do?

It will do almost anything Google Assistant will do. You can ask it about the weather, what the traffic is like on your route to work, stream music, take notes, or implement If This Then That (IFTTT). This product was built for makers and is designed to be hacked.

How much is it?

Current pricing information can be found on the product page (SKU: 373662)

Is Google AIY available for ship-out?

Yes. However, only the AIY Kit is available for shipping and doesn’t qualify for the bundle price. The Raspberry Pi 3 is NOT available for ship-out orders.

Do you ship outside of the US?

No, not at this time.

What else will I need?

For initial set-up, you will also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and an HDMI cable

Can I use it with any Raspberry Pi board?

No, this kit is only compatible with the Raspberry Pi 3 board.

Is it a Google Home?

No. While very similar, Google Home has built in support for most home automation devices. While the Google AIY Voice kit should also work with these devices, not all have been tested and cannot be guaranteed to work.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. It may seem intimidating at first, but there are detailed instructions provided by both Google and the Raspberry Pi Foundation to help complete the project.

How long does it take to build and program?

If you have coding experience, around 30 minutes. Without coding experience, 45-60 minutes.

Is it suitable for children?

The kit is suitable for children who either have some experience with electronics and coding, or as a build together project.

Are their bulk buy discounts?

Not during the pre-order period. If you are a school, non-profit, or maker space please email Micro Center Customer Support for inquiries.
