The options would be that I either build a new pc for a good price (~$300) with some parts I have or a new macbook for like 1k. This would just be for general use$387.96 -

I used to be a competitive gamer but then shifted more towards casual light gaming while adding an emphasis on using the space for school. The build emphasizes form over function as I chose to make it look better instead of using the money for better parts. While I do regret not getting a better graphics card, I'm very happy with my build as it fits my everyday needs.$1,164.91 -

This computer was built when I wanted to upgrade from my 2014 laptop so that I could get better performance in Photoshop and start to experience games the way they were intended. I was also hopeful it would help me do college work faster (I'm a computer engineering major!) and I was getting back into programming at the time. It was really exciting to build and joyous to see everyday tasks like launching programs being unimaginably fast, mainly thanks to that 970 EVO SSD! So yeah, I am a very mixed user of my computer so I need it to do a decent job at all kinds of tasks. If you're interested, I specifically: Play games: Mainly what I can do with friends, like Fall Guys, Among Us, Fortnite, Tabletop Simulator, Terraria, GTA V, including browser games like Jackbox and JKLM and Bonk and Sporcle, and other games I can enjoy alone like Celeste, Portal 2 (though I still have simultaneous singleplayer voice calls with friends for those too). Program and write code: I started with Python and then learned JavaScript to become a web developer, and am now working through learning Rust and re-establishing fundamental knowledge about data structures and algorithms that I was lacking before, and am going even deeper into concurrency. The description hint says to mention what projects we're involved with, so if it's okay to post my social profile, you can find me on GitHub as @babichjacob where I primarily publish tools for working with the Svelte web framework. Though less accessible, I also have code from my home automation and security system built on Home Assistant on there, in addition to other random learning experience repositories. Do some artistic stuff: I used to be more into graphic design with Photoshop, but have moved to doing web design as part of web development. I would love to see myself get back into graphic design if my computer is better able to handle it after upgrades. 3D modeling and rendering would also be something I could get into from that, so I'm excited. The upgrades I have lined up right now are for the CPU (currently Ryzen 5 2600 as you'll see in the parts list below) and graphics card (RX 580 8 GB). For those, I think I'm going to get a Ryzen 5 5600 from Micro Center because it looks like it'll be a great ~40% speedup and stay within my budget (not needing a separate big cooler either!). I'm still in the middle stages of researching a graphics card to upgrade to, but it seems like a RX 6600 XT or 6650 XT will be excellent upgrades that I can still afford. What's motivated me to upgrade these parts is that they may not be keeping up with latest games (typically having lag spikes and sometimes crashing) or with my expanding demands from my computer (complex programs having longer compilation times — I've been spending 2022 learning Rust!). My first attempt to solve these problems and make my computer work better for me was to upgrade the RAM from 16 GB to 32 GB (and add some RGB for more performance!), but it looks like there is more to be done. Thank you for reading about and checking out my build!$923.99 -

I chose the 5600G over the 5600X due to the small difference in performance. I wanted the integrated graphics for trouble shooting and in case I have to RMA my GPU I can still use the computer while waiting, albeit at much less graphics performance. I should still be able to game at low-mid settings near 60 FPS till the GPU comes back from the RMA. The 6600 XT will handle 1080p gaming on high setting with at least 60 FPS while streaming to Twitch, YouTube and Facebook. If the 3060's hadn't been so expensive, I may have gone that route. As it is, I already exceeded my $750 budget and couldn't go any higher. I still have a couple things to add later. I want to add another kit of RAM to get me to 32Gb. I want to add 2 more case fans and a CPU cooler for better coolong (something like a hyper 212 Evo or similar, maybe a be quiet). I know a 5600G and a 6600XT aren't really gonna push thermals very high, but if I have a better cooler and a couple more fans then each fan won't have to run as high RPM and the system will be cool AND quiet.$1,071.93 -

I was able to buy the ASUS X299-E GAMING Motherboard for $70 locally a few months ago. Since then, it's been chilling in my basement collecting dust. I've wanted to build around it for awhile, but just got the chance when I saw a Core i9 7900x for $155 online. Once I secured those deals, the rest was the best parts I could find for the price. This PC was built to sell (which is why I bought the i9 - good selling feature) because I already have a decent ITX daily driver. Because of the 10 core CPU and 32gb of ram, most professional workstation tasks should work fine on this system. I have no idea what the future buyer will use it for, but judging it based on my previous sales, gaming is the most popular in my local area. The processor is i9 7900x, microcenter didn't have it available at the time. I put the 11900k as a placeholder. Also the GPU is a Gigabyte 1070ti 8gb Gaming OC that I bought a few years back.$792.00 -

Right before things got better with GPU availability, I got this B550 and RX 6600XT combo for $600 from NewEgg. Apart from Case, all other choices are obvious ones in this build. The pricing on the airflow version on Corsaire 4000 is better so I went with it. Didn't compromise on the CPU. Ryzen 5600X is a great choice to go with 6600XT. Added some RGB fans and went with cheap air cooler than using AIO cooler. Also skipped case mod cables. I will definitely add them when I get a good deal on the AIO cooler$1,454.94
