I built this computer mainly for gaming/streaming but also tried to get what I need for video editing for my streams. Everything is pretty much done on it but I am looking into upgrading my GPU but am waiting to see what the new 30 series GPUs have in store, since I am in no hurry yet and don't have a need to upgrade right away. For whatever reason, I couldn't find NVME drives in the drop down but I have two 1gb Samsung EVO 970 NVME M.2s and a miscellaneous other hard drive.

Built to run Lightwave 3D rendering software, as well as general usage. This is the first machine I have built in over 15 years. My last build was a dual AMD Athlon, and everything since then until now has been off-the-shelf stuff, so this is a big upgrade for me. Lightwave is a CPU renderer, not GPU, so the video card was not a major concern for me, but CPU cores and memory was.

Entering my freshman year of high school, all my friends could ever talk about was League of Legends. I was always invited to play with them, but at that time, the only computer in my house was my dad's Dell Inspiron 530, rocking a Core 2 Duo and no graphics card, which was running at 2 fps on the lowest settings possible. I originally built this pc before the start of my junior year of high school, in 2018. It rocked all the same components that I have in it now, except before it had a Ryzen 3 1200, GTX 970, 8GB of Crucial RAM, only a 500gb hard drive, and the stock AMD CPU cooler. When I was finally able to play League, I discovered how much better I was, and within less than a year of playing, I had been able to climb to the top 6% of players in North America, while my friends who had begun to play 2-3 years before me were still in Silver. My friends encouraged me to start streaming, as they argued that my skill level would attract many viewers, but at the time it was a mix of focusing on school, hardware limitations, and internet limitations that only stopped me from doing so. Fast forward to March of 2020. The pandemic hit, students were to stay at home and learn over online meetings, seniors such as me couldn't experience prom, grad night, or even say goodbye to out friends. Nobody knew then that March 17th was the last day any of us were going to see each other anymore. It was around this time that I realized I wasn't going back to school for the rest of the year, and began drafting potential upgrades for my pc, since I was going to be using it even more from then until college started in the fall. In June, I graduated from high school, and used the money I received from friends and relatives to finally invest into my computer. My first upgrade was my processor, ditching Ryzen 3 1200 for a Ryzen 9 3900X. I chose this upgrade, while some might say it's overkill (although I do edit my videos when I stream and such) mostly to ensure that I would be future-proofed. I could only afford big upgrades like this when there's a huge reason to celebrate (such as graduation) and the next time I would be graduating would be in 2024, which my pc should be able to last me way past then. My next upgrade was my RAM, which I upgraded from 8GB 3000mhz to 16GB of G.Skill's TridentZ Royals 3600mhz speeds. I was really restricted by the 8GB of RAM that I originally had, especially for productivity and school, where I would have multiple tabs of chrome open to work on many different assignments and research papers at once. I chose the Royal kit because it was around this time that my budget was a little expendable, and I could afford style points on my computer. My third upgrade came in the form of Crucial's 1TB P1 NVMe drive. Booting, loading up game, and those long wait times were such a hassle on my old hard drive. I would literally turn on my pc when I got home from school, go into the kitchen to get a snack, maybe take out the trash, and when I'd return it would finally be at the sign-in screen. By far, the ssd upgrade was my favorite upgrade. My next upgrade was my graphics card, since I needed something to pair well with my 3900X. I wish I could've gone crazier, and gotten a 2080 Super/Ti, but I decided to be realistic and settled for the MSI GamingZ RTX 2070. I was able to play Star Wars Fallen Order, GTA V, Monster Hunter, Destiny 2, all at amazing visual fidelity and high frame rates. The last upgrade I made to my build was the introduction of an AIO. My remaining budget couldn't cover anything crazy, although I was eyeing the Z series from NZXT. I settled on a CoolerMaster ML240L AIO, and it's been keeping my 3900X cool ever since. I made the decision to create a theme for my setup when I stumbled upon an etsy shop, selling a decal from an animated film named "Spirited Away", a movie my cousins and I grew up watching. I thought that the character Haku, a dragon, would compliment my build nicely, since you could already see MSI's dragon logo on the backplate and on the side. I ordered a 10x10 custom decal, and placed it on the side glass panel. I configured the rest of the RGB in my system to base around the decal, with my case fans and AIO pump to White, and my RAM and Graphics's Card to a turquoise color. In the end, I am really satisfied with the aesthetic of my build. I wished that I was able to upgrade my B450 motherboard and 550W PSU, but that's why I'm entering this contest HAHA.

This led me to learn more about computer hardware so I spent two weeks reading articles, manuals, and watching youtube video's so that I could learn more about the different components that make up a computer. After indoctrinating myself, I set out to build my rig with the intent of creating something that would help me compile code, run virtual machines, and lightly play video games (when I'm not studying of course!!). Since I was only interested in light gaming I didn't mind having a lower end graphics card. Also, considering the shortage of GPU's I was wiling to settle for any GPU that would render things on my monitor. Once the chip shortage mellows out and GPU prices start to normalize I will consider buying a better graphics card so I can play some serious games breh!! Even though I don't have a high end graphics card I'm still very proud of my build because it has a very powerful 12 core AMD processor, 32 gb of ram, 1 TB SSD, and a 2TB HDD. My 12 core processor helps me compile my code at a fast rate and the 32gb of ram gives me the ability to run memory intensive virtual machines in tandem with my host operating system. One of my favorite features is my SSD + HDD combo. I'm planning on keeping my coding files on my SSD so that I can read and write to them at a faster rate and the HDD will be used to store larger files like photo's, movies, and games. Even though HDD's are pegged as slower media, I've found that they can recall files faster when it's not used to hold my primary OS. This small technical loophole allows me to draw greater speed and performance from my HDD. Another great thing about this build is my Lancool II Mesh Tempered Glass eATX Full Tower Computer Case. Even though this case runs on the bigger side, it's size makes it very easy to install all of my components and makes it very easy to cable manage. Also, the two tempered glass side panels make it easy to reach in and make necessary adjustments. Other than it's size, this case has two amazing frontal stock fans that provide outstanding frontal airflow. Even though this case has amazing airflow, I may consider adding a radiator at the top of my case so that I can have air blowing down onto my horizontally placed graphics card. Building a computer during a global pandemic is a daunting task because their is a shortage of computer parts, however I don't regret this experience and I had fun along the way!!

This is my main gaming PC (Built around 3 years ago, prices reflect that), with a liquid cooled CPU and hybrid GPU. Makes for quite the interesting maze of cooling tubes inside the case. Honestly not sure if it was that great of a choice or not, When you're doing this much liquid cooling generally you might as well go ahead and do a custom water loop. Well, maybe next time.

I built this rig because I needed a better PC that could handle extreme CAD and gaming workloads. I used fusion 360, Prusaslicer and cura. I also play Fortnite, Forza horizon 4 and Minecraft along with many more games. There only parts reused from my old build are my storage (1+2 TB HDD) and my 250gb SSD as well as my GPU, a 780 from EVGA. I am planning on getting a 2tb Samsung 970 Evo plus and a 2080 ti or the 3080 ti when it comes out. I used the NZXT h510i case and an Asus B550-F Wifi as my mobo. I have a Ryzen 9 3900x and am using the Cooler Master Hyper 212 BE. I got the case in white and most of the other parts I tried to get in black. My RAM is Corsair Vengeance RGB pro 2x16gb with the light enhancement pack added so all 4 DMM slots were filled. I also have a pcie expansion card giving me more ish 3.0 ports and 2 type c ports as well as giving another usb 3.0 pink header to attach the cases type c put to using an adapter taking type a pin header to a type c header.

This is my first PC build, which was a personal challenge I have wanted to tackle for over a decade. This build also marks the beginning of my transition out of the Apple computer ecosystem. For the past decade I have been a Macintosh user, but I noticed that the more I used Windows 10 the easier it became to look for new horizons. I built this PC partially for my occupation as a software developer, but also for gaming when I'm off the clock. Needless to say, I spend the majority of my day using it for work and play. Prior to this build I was solely a Nintendo Switch gamer, and now I have the power to play all the triple A games I was missing out on. My proclivity for Nintendo games is still alive and well, as I discovered a new hobby in emulating my favorite games with upscaled graphics on my machine. I am very happy with my PC, the whole process has sparked a new hobby for me in ways I never expected. In the future I plan to get a corsair keyboard to match my mouse, a 144hz 2k ROG monitor, and also upgrade the graphics card as we get closer to Cyberpunk's launch.
