The i5 beats the previous-gen Core i9 part in gaming for cheap, so great value there. I had an (probably 10 years) old computer that I built and have been using it daily ever since. At two separate points throughout it's lifecycle, I made two massive upgrades - 1) going from an HDD boot drive to an SSD, and 2) upgrading the video card from one that was mid-range at the time of installation to a modern mid-range card. The video card upgrade was probably 3-4 years ago. Now that I am permanently remote in my day job, I get to spend an enormous amount of time on sitting at my computer. With new lines of CPUs having just been released, I figured now was as good of time as any to do a full, much-needed rebuild of my daily PC. I work on my computer for the full day, every day, and work on side projects (web development, writing, etc.) in the evenings. I do some gaming, but haven't really had a capable machine to really enjoy it in many years. With that, I am many years behind on PC games, so I don't need to play the latest and greatest. With that, and a budget, in mind, I built the whole system from the ground up, but decided to reuse the existing video card. GPU prices are ever-so-slightly beginning to come down, so I thought I'd wait a bit to buy one while catching up on the past 6-8 years of games I haven't been able to play.$869.93 -

I built this PC for general purpose usage (web browsing, image editing, software development, maybe some light gaming, etc).... I built this PC for general purpose usage (web browsing, image editing, software development, maybe some light gaming, etc). I'm pretty happy with it overall. My only complaint might be that I can hear the fans quietly whirring when the room is quiet, but I suppose that's to be expected with a mesh case, and it's not really an issue. I will probably add a couple of HDDs from my old computer for additional storage, but the 1TB SSD is plenty of space and super fast. If I decide to get into PC gaming in the future, I will upgrade the graphics card when prices come down; but the T600 seems more than adequate for general usage.$939.93 -

First, I was in the process of shopping for expanded storage for my current-gen xbox console. This was really frustrating because the proprietary format expansion cards the console must use are really expensive, especially compared to how prices have really fallen for pc storage devices (both sata and m.2 pci-e drives). The second instance that really sparked this build was seeing a RTX 3060 Ti graphics card at a really good price at Microcenter. With those two factors combined, I was ready to drop by plans of buying expensive console storage and just make my own DIY console.$1,129.91 -

Bought and built this to primarily play games and to finally have a machine that can handle all current gen title games at 1080p. Games like Apex Legends and Halo Infinite all hold a framerate well above 144hz at the highest graphic settings with no problems as well as keeping cool. This computer also allowed me to be able to record my gameplay in high quality using OBS thanks to NVIDIA'S nvenc encoder in part to the 3060 RTX. Video editing programs such as adobe premiere also run well to edit footage together to create youtube compilations of the many games I play. Eventually upgraded the storage on the computer with SSD drives which was easy due to the microATX motherboard being in a ATX size case for ease of building as well as the case having drivebays on the back panel of the computer.$1,137.92 -

I got a new job that's 100% work-from-home but doesn't provide me with a computer, so I needed to build a new one in a hurry and on a bit of a budget. I re-used as many components as I could from the desktop I built 15 years ago, and then have slowly swapped them out as I've had time to shop for new modern replacements. At this point, nearly the only original piece left is the case (which is a gigantic monstrosity compared to my modern needs-- when I built in this case in 2005, I needed space for six HDDs and *FOUR* optical drives!), but that will get replaced by a modern micro-ATX case soon enough.$1,144.89 -

I used a B660m max mortar with a 12400 to BCLK overclock the cpu to a stable, but way better cpu. The 4070 is one of the best value buys for the 40 series, and should last a long time. This build has been a work in progress for well over 2 years ever since my 'gaming' laptop died, but this project remained on the backburner for quite some time as prices on GPU's were hard to justify for a long time. In the meantime I replaced my laptop with a Macbook but the screen on that is rather small and gaming isn't really an option. So here we are, the PC build with a modern GPU faster than 2080 Super with all the bells and whistles. The older titles I play run exceptionally at 4K Max and even Cyberpunk is playable thanks to DLSS. I feel like I can accomplish anything with this PC, whether its business related AutoCad work to using it as a network-wide home NAS server. I went with the Lian Li case not only b/c it's become iconic on the internet, but also b/c it's spacious having room for a secondary power supply as Der Bauer described it. This means I can easily upgrade anything down the road as I plan on keeping the case for a long time. I should have waited for the newer 40 series cards as they're probably a better value, but frankly I doubt I'd notice the difference.$1,351.94 -
