My consulting business requires some power and my laptop was aging far too rapidly. I also downloaded Baldurs Gate 3 and when it kept crashing that was the final straw, I decided to build my own showcase instead of just building them for other people. With a budget of only $800 I built the most powerful build I could and it takes everything i've thrown at it and then some. I'd like to upgrade the processor as soon as possible and potentially take advantage of DDR5 rather than the current DDR4$892.92 -

This PC was built as a specific stand-alone platform for encoding high definition videos and interfacing with a large storage pool NAS. Many of the encoded videos specifically use the Intel Quick Sync feature of the Core i7-13700K CPU. Raw video footage is pulled directly from the NAS, encoded, and re-uploaded (hence the 1TB WD Black SN770 NVME SSD being the only local storage needed). I chose the i7-13700K over the i9 models as the Quick Sync capabilities are identical. Sometimes CPU encoding is done for specific reasons. I find the 13700K adequate for that as well (although the power consumption is notably higher, the AIO keeps things silent). The power supply is quite large and also contributes to near silent operation. Overall, an excellent machine that should provide many years of service!$1,027.90 -

For a living I edit videos, usually they are 1080p short-form, but even then, my projects can get so "complicated" or dense that even my old intel core i7 6850k would struggle to play it back. I really loved this CPU and platform, but it was time to get something modern. Intel 14th gen had released and I preordered the 14700k, and I went with intel because of the Quicksync h264/h265 hardware acceleration, otherwise I would've went with AMD. I'm really happy with my build. It does everything I need it to very well, and it didn't cost me that much for what I have. The only upgrade I can see myself doing in the next year is a GPU, RAM, or storage upgrade. I still have the old parts from my old build, which I'll probably turn it into a storage server and video encoding machine, so I can edit all my videos and have exports in progress without hindering timeline performance$1,255.93 -

The "Skylake Powerhouse" was built with versatility in mind, designed to handle both high-end gaming and creative workloads. Powered by an Intel Core i7 6700K, this rig was originally built to excel in gaming, especially titles like The Witcher 3, GTA V, and CS, where the Nvidia GTX 1080 ti shines at 1440p and even 4K gaming. The 32GB of DDR4 RAM provides more than enough bandwidth for multitasking, video editing, and even streaming at high settings, while the 500GB SSD ensures fast load times for games and applications. Besides gaming, I also use this build for productivity tasks and creative projects, including video editing in Premiere Pro and 3D rendering using Blender. As a personal side project, I manage a Minecraft server on the Proxmox platform, so this machine helps me configure and test settings before rolling them out. Future upgrades may include expanding storage with an additional SSD or moving to a newer GPU for enhanced ray tracing capabilities. In hindsight, I might have opted for a larger SSD, as 500GB fills up quickly with modern games and 4K footage. Otherwise, this build has held up exceptionally well, even as newer hardware has emerged.$1,345.98 -

I built this PC as an upgrade from my very outdated 3570k build from my college years. I wanted to set it up to support video editing I'm getting into as well as occasional gaming. I originally wanted to build in a Fractal Meshify 2 Compact case but while shopping for used GPUs, I purchased a 2080ti MSI Gaming X Trio without realizing how long it is. It could not fit in the Meshify 2 C with the thicc Arctic 280 AIO in the front. So I switched the build to a Be Quiet! 500dx case which allows for a larger card.$1,362.98 -

I built this specifically to handle all video editing and gaming, as well as to have a PC that measured up to my mechanical keyboard and peripherals obsession. I play primarily single player RPGs, and also have to create a good amount of video content for work. I needed something that could handle relatively serious gaming applications as well as the most demanding scenarios Adobe has to offer, and this has been up to the task in absolutely every area. I've also recently discovered the joy that is Moonlight streaming on a hacked Switch, so now I'm able to play PC games on the go without having to purchase a Steam Deck. Next up is modifying my 3D Printer so that I'm able to stop/start/pause/monitor prints both from my PC and on the go. I continue to find new use cases for every hobby I take up, and generally the common thread is needing an adequately powerful PC to run everything. This thing overperforms every single time.$1,399.92 -

I needed something newer to cut down on video editing time and perform better in design tasks. The old system was also heavily CPU bound in games and struggled to get respectable framerates even with settings turned down. I enjoy all types of games, but I definitely needed something that can handle Starfield, Cities Skylines 2, MS Flight Sim and more. I've been in a long wait with MSI while they process a RMA replacement for my primary graphics card, a MSI SUPRIM 3090 Ti. During this downtime, I got impatient and decided to use the opportunity of not having a giant brick of a graphics card to work around. One of my friends was looking at upgrading his computer, so I ended up doing a build for him. He told me what he was looking for, and we looked together to find matching parts for his system. We went with a CPU + mobo bundle from microcenter since it was a great value. I've been piecing this build together a bit at a time for the last six months. I mainly kept an eye out for components that would be a significant upgrade over my 11900K / 3070 Ti desktop build. Shoutout to the employees at my local microcenter who take time to hunt down the random clearance items I order. Everything but the AIO cooler and the ssd storage devices were bought at microcenter. Currently on the 13700k, I have all P cores overclocked to 5.8 with all E cores at 4.4 with vcore set to 1.35 and medium LLC. My ddr5 is modestly overclocked from 6000 to 6400 for the time being. I need to re-learn how to overclock ram because a lot of bios settings have become more complex since ddr3-ddr4 days. From what I understand, Hynix A die modules should be able to overclock significantly higher frequencies - I just need to learn how to pull that off.$1,624.25 -

This is a new home machine to replace my venerable but arthritic 3rd Gen i7. The old machine was a Shuttle SZ77r5 with 32 GB of RAM and an i7-3770k with an EVGA NVidia 1650 (the only part that has survived into the new build). The new machine is quite an upgrade, with an i7-14700 and 64 GB of RAM, Two WD black 850x SSDs running NVMe (2TB and 4TB), all housed in a Phanteks Evo Shift XT case, cooled with a Cooler Master 240 Atmos ARGB AIO. The new Case is an even tighter fit than the old Shuttle case, though longer and taller. The case has a nice solid feel though it's not great for travel. I'm happy that it comes with a front USBC and USB3.1 port. Unfortunately the integrated color selector and mode switches running off the integrated infinity panel, don't talk to the ASRock RGB controller and are just overridden by it, so no front panel button control for lighting unless I dump the MB integration. Securing the Micro-ITX board required tweezers and patience to line up everything, particularly on the bottom, and some of the CPU and Fan headers end up right at the bottom of the case since the MB ends up almost upside down, making it a challenge to connect them after mounting the board. I'm fairly happy with the cable routing otherwise, though I do wish the bottom of the Phanteks chassis (it sits inside the Aluminum outer case) did come apart for easier access, but it is unfortunately riveted to the chassis elements instead of screwed in. It would also be a nice place to mount a fan at the bottom of the case, and it would provide welcome access to the 'top' of the MB for all the FAN headers and mounting screws. But I'm satisfied overall. I do plan to upgrade the graphics card (Christmas maybe), but this is much more of a general purpose DEV/IT Admin/Home PC and I don't game much so it's not that pressing to me. Right now I use it to support a number of Virtualbox VMs and for personal development work.$1,732.94 -

I work primarily in Adobe programs, especially Premiere Pro and After Effects for film editing and special effects. While it hasn't been built for aesthetics it works very well. Both programs have a very low draw on the GPU so I actually still have my old NVIDIA GTX 980! Everything else has been upgraded over time though, with as much RAM as I can afford as both programs eat up as much of it as you let them. Most of my film work is done for a local theater for their productions, marketing and live special effects. In the future I definitely want to focus on aesthetics since that's the biggest lacking thing on this build. I don't love the case too much so I think that will be the first to go. It's not amazing at airflow but has served its purpose very well otherwise! I have a 360mm radiator ready to go in that won't fit in the top, so a new case will help a lot. Build Purpose: I day trade using Thinkorswim, bookmap, and tradingview on two 1440p widescreen monitors. I also run a smaller monitor with OBS set to record the two larger ones. Thinkorswim is mostly a single core application so I wanted a processor with great single core performance. Bookmap is extremely RAM hungry so I went with 64gb to give me some headroom with everything else I'm running. I saved some money on the GPU front; bookmap does benefit from GPU acceleration but I just really needed the GPU to run 3 monitors. I've been wanting to put some of my profits to use. Building thoughts: I had to RMA my first Asrock Z790, the I/O shield was bent and a part that was screwed in had broken off the board. The 2nd one was perfect. Also, I was worried about clearing the AIO tubing around the Dominators because they're so tall, but I saw another post with the tubes routing over the RAM heatsinks and they ended up fitting well. Finally, I went with an 850W PSU just in case I want to upgrade my GPU eventually. Overall, I'm very happy with my build!$2,184.92 -

Graphics cards are harder because they are overpriced. I used the AMD Rx 6950 XT because the bang for the buck factor. It was on sale and an Nvidea equivalent would have cost hundreds more. It is a beast too. I shopped Micro Center sales. The case is very important and Fractal design is the best. SuperNova power supply is reliable. Good memory vs cheap…don’t cheap out on this! Trident Z5 is the best. Have fun and watch YouTube how to videos.$2,217.41 -

Got tired of opening up my Q58 all the time to let my gpu and cpu breath, and really wanted something different. Got lucky and someone local was selling a XTIA Proto-L. Ordered some extra parts for the XTIA and went to work on 3D printing some pieces and sleeving some custom cables for the build. Made a orange set, then a purple set, and it just didn't sit well with my brand new strix 3090. So I decided to try something different and went with gunmetal paracord 425 vs the typical 550 to get some tighter sleeving. As for 3D mods, I knew I needed to add a front/side I/O since I didn't want to tilt the pc everytime I needed to plug something in, so I grabbed a cheap USB C hub from amazon and went to work tinkercading a cover/support for the side. I probably printed 5-6 different variation to finally settle with this one. I also did simple mod of creating a cover for the ugly red riser.$2,219.96 -

The motherboard was faulty and overall was not the best. The only real upgrade I would think about adding is rgb pcie wires and motherboard wires. I might also add 2 more sticks of ram. Hello, my name is Arte and I'm completely addicted to overhauling my desktop pc for the sake of making marginal improvements. Or perhaps I just enjoy tinkering. Regardless, those are my honest reasons of why I built this. This machine functions as and replaces my primary gaming desktop pc. I mostly play fps games such as Doom Eternal. I was really tired of ddr4 and was ready to make the switch to ddr5 since the price on ddr5 has come down significantly over recent months. I also upgraded my video card to a RTX 4070 so that I could use gsync on a recently acquired monitor. I also upgraded to a more robust air cpu cooler so that it could handle the temps of an i7 13700k cpu.$2,364.91
