Racing in VR is a lot more fun when you have friends and family in the same room with you. I built this computer and installled it next to my main racing rig so that my family (and friends when they visit) can challenge me in iRacing, Project Cars 2, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and other popular racing games with VR support. Since I use a 1440p Oculus Rift S (and not a 4K headset) with this computer, the RTX 3070Ti is sufficient. The motherboard and CPU, despite being released a few years ago, were purchased brand new this year. I'm really pleased with the Asus Pro Q470M-C/CSM micro-ATX motherboard, which was originally intended for corporate users and has very good build quality for the money. No, it does not support overclocking, but it's still an interesting/rare motherboard that has been quite reliable so far. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't include WiFi, but at least there is an expansion slot for a WiFi card.$689.99 -

Built this PC because I was guilted by my friends to play Hell Divers II. My wife also needed a PC to do our taxes on every year. The goal was mild future proofing (the GPU is my Bottleneck) and escalated quite a bit from the original build scope thanks to the Ryzen 7 7700x bundle. I am able to play games at 1440 on high settings and 1080 ultra settings at a minimum of 65-80 fps. The original purpose was just to have a racing sim rig. This is the first pc I have even worked on, I assembled/built myself in an afternoon.$1,124.94 -

Definitely a budget conscious build, intended to play most games and use modern parts at the low-end of the market. I built this PC in the midst of the GPU Shortage, with parts salvaged from a prebuilt gaming machine. There are no original parts left in the case at this point, but it all started with migrating the build from the original case to the Lian Li Lancool II for improved airflow. I'll also say that case-swapping a prebuilt is more work than building from scratch. From there, over the next two years, I would go on to upgrade the power supply, RAM, GPU, AIO cooler, and added Lian Li RGB Strimer cables for extra FPS! Just two days ago, I swapped the original motherboard and CPU for one of microcenters AMD bundles and now this thing is in its penultimate form. I plan to get rid of all of the RGB and put this born-again-and-again beast into a Fractal North XL case, as much like this PC has matured over the last few years, so have my tastes...even if it means I'll lose some FPS due to lack of RGB.$3,192.90 -

For games, I enjoy racing sims and racing arcade games such as Project CARS 2 and 3, Forza, and Assetto Corsa Competizione in VR at 4k 90hz. For AI, I run large language models locally, which takes a ton of memory bandwidth and capacity. Microcenter offered a great price on an i7 12700k, which can run my 64GB DDR5 kit at 6200 MT/s. To get the full 6600 MT/s that my kit is rated for, I can uprgrade to a 14th gen chip at a later time if I choose. The massive VRMs of this system's motherboard, the MSI Z690 Ace, should have no issues with the higher core count and power draw of 14th gen. Still, I am pleased with the i7 12700k's performance right now. Upgrading to 12th gen from my old 10th gen setup doubled my memory bandwidth and almost doubled the speed of my large language models. The Gigabyte 3090 Ti is a great VR and AI card too: 24GB VRAM is not a limiting factor in gaming, and almost every VR game runs better on Nvidia than AMD. 24GB VRAM is the sweet spot at this time for AI.$1,824.98 -
