This started out as a "minor upgrade" to my gaming machine... ended up as a "build completely new machine and only keep the GPU and data drive". And I only kept the data drive since I replaced it a couple of months ago. Components not listed are the RTX 2080ti GPU, a 500GB NVMe as a boot device and a 2TB NVMe for data. Both Samsungs, but I don't remember the exact models (Evo 980 and 970 something). I output to a TV so I'm limited to 60FPS at 4K, and so far I am getting that with the highest settings on every game I've tried with no DLSS.$1,058.63 -

After a couple of years of having an SFF gaming build, I decided that I want to go back to ATX. This build is a combination of reusing parts from the past along with black friday buys. I play Overwatch, Counter Strike 2, Valheim, Elden Ring, and lately have been playing all of the Kingdom Hearts game at 4k. The 3070 works well at 4k for me. On less demanding games I can fully saturate my 160hz 4k monitor, and at more intensive games I can reach 80fps with some graphics tweaks. I plan to upgrade to the 5800x3d, and in the future plan to upgrade to the next gen gpu's, but my 3070 has been treating me great so far so not really pressured to upgrade my gpu yet.$1,194.96 -

It was a side-grade that only kept the original power supply and graphics card. The main reason for this side-grade was my discontent with the styling of my previous build, which was an all-black RGB build. I wanted to start fresh with a build that would be quieter, include only ssd storage, and overall would be more streamlined. This build was the result! This build was done as a final refresh of a workstation that is based on socket AM4 and using dd4 ram. At the time of writing, the prices of ddr4 ram, ssd storage, and even graphics cards have all dropped significantly. So it was time to hit up Micocenter and make this happen. The motherboard stopped working. Initial intention was to upgrade to AMD 4 which had both good specs and prices. However, AMD 5 was on the horizon and I decided to wait and build to that spec to provide a longer life for the motherboard. I selected AMD as my builds for my wife use Intel and thus I could compare prices, specs, features, etc. The AMD 3 computer was quite efficient and more than sufficient for my foci on writing, from essays to books, and basic graphics. I often had multiple programs open as writing required accessing sources, looking at uses of the sources and my music to work by, ideally running simultaneously. The graphics programs were used for cleaning up old family photos, films and other materials such as newspapers. As I am not professionally into photo and video technology, I use basic software such as that from Cyberlink. The family pictures date to the turn of the 20th century and by the late 1930’s included old Kodak family films. I then sent the processed files to third parties to be placed on DVD’s which were distributed to family. For my AMD 5, all components were purchased locally, all but one M2 at Microcenter as I want to keep such local sources viable. I selected the Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite motherboard, The retail cost was under $300, had the latest chipset and could be bundled with both other hardware and software. I was particularly interested in using M2 storage and the motherboard had three slots for it, one tied directly to the CPU and two PCle 4.0 slots. For memory I purchased a one TB M2 2280 for the CPU slot on which I put Windows 11 and a second partition for downloaded software that I installed in the C: partition. For data files I selected a 2 TB mvme which was a later purchase from Best Buy. The latter was on special sale, almost 50% off. On this device I created three partitions for storing documents, music and pictures/videos. I had planned on using my existing 3 TB HDD but it too had stopped working. I hope to recover the data from it. The slots for the M2 storage are under a heat sink located next to the PCle 16 slot. Thus the M2 devices did not need any heat sinks. The slots are partially under my PowerColor RX 6600 graphics card with 8 GB of memory. I am not a gamer so don’t need the most recent graphics chips but did want a decent card with sufficient memory for a future 32 inch monitor. I purchased a Ryzen 7 7700X CPU that was bundled with 32 GB of GSkill memory. I selected the Noctua UH-14S cooler. The cooler is a large passive heat sink nearly six inches high and three inches wide. It comes with an attached fan but a second fan can be attached to the other side. I installed only one fan. I used existing hardware for the rest of the build. All was installed in my Antec server mid-tower case that has room for the cooler. The case has temperature controlled fans, one on the top back of the case and two on the top of the case. I reused my Antec 1000 watt platinum modular PSU along with my LG internal Blu-ray read/write drive. I have a 27 inch ASUS monitor and connected it via HDMI. After more than a month of using the new build, it runs fast and cool. The CPU cooler fan is almost noiseless and the case fans have not been turned on as the operating temperature is low. Booting takes less than 15 seconds and shutting down is about 5 seconds. The build was under $1,500 including tax. I look forward to increased efficiency and pleasure in my computing.$1,084.94 -

Built this PC as a primarily gaming focused rig with 3D modeling and light AI training on the side. 7700x paired with a 4080. I am currently on a survival game kick, but I play pretty much anything first person. Obviously this PC has no problem keeping up! If I did it again, I would use a smaller cooler than the NHD-15. It performs fantastic, but it is so big it is hard to work around when adding an M.2 drive for instance. Now, I would for a b650 motherboard over the x670, but at the time, the B series boards were the same price as the x670 boards.$2,438.91 -

I built it for Blender renders, general gaming at 1440p, and casual work/internet use. It handles titles like Battlefield 2042 and Dead by Daylight with ease. Renders on this rig are incredibly fast compared to my laptop computer with a GTX 1050 (4gb). Complex renders on my laptop would could take several hours. This machine with the 4070Ti cranks out the same projects in mere minutes. It is just mind blowing how quick the frames render. I still plan on making minor changes. For instance, I feel like the cable management could be better. And I hate the look of the Seasonic cables that came standard with the PSU. 32gb is fine for now; however, I might buy another set of 16gb sticks to get this up to 64gb. The 4070TI was expensive and probably overkill but I’m loving the build. Total build cost with deals/sales and MicroCenter combo etc was $1989$2,166.96 -

I use it for general daily desktop computing and my open source work. I bought the CPU, motherboard, RAM, and storage from my local Micro Center. Since I'm not a gamer the integrated video is sufficient for me. I have the two storage 4TB SSDs on a PCIe to M.2 expansion card and the boot drive on the motherboard. I've been running the system with Fedora Linux and it has been rock solid. The only hiccup is that I can't update the motherboard BIOS. It just restarts when I try. I think this is a problem with the motherboard as there is a report online of someone else with the same problem with an early retail version of the motherboard I am using. It's working fine for now but I can't afford the downtime to resolve it. When AM5 platform prices fall enough for me to get a backup system to play with I will spend more time troubleshooting. I'll probably have to RMA the board.$1,559.96 -

Coming from a mid range computer that was build when I was still new to the whole building process, this was a big leap for me. Since STALKER 2 was officially "re-announced", I decided I needed to build a beast of a computer, since I wanted to experience the best looking and best performing version of this long overdue game from my favorite game franchise. Beyond that, I've been playing my other favorites like Borderlands, DayZ, and a heavy modded Fallout without a hitch. Peripherals are A Steelseries Apex Pro full, Steelseries Aerox 9, and Sennheiser X DROP PC38X. Monitor is an AOC 27" 2K with 144Hz refresh and 1ms response. I installed 2 front A-14s, and they can get loud. However, I have curved them so they can still push more air than the 2 NF-A12 exhausts while still keeping things cool. Of course, on the rare chance it gets too toasty, then the noise is a compromise I'll have to make. One more note, I used an old android phone as a resource monitor to top it all off.$3,585.50 -

Imagine you want to build a new pc with the Torrent Compact case with rgb but you dislike the glass rear panel, what can you do? My Idea: Order the white non-rgb version with solid rear and purchase additional rgb fans to replace all the existing fans. This is what I did and I already received some of my hardware order, when - for me - some Christmas miracle happened. :) A full white rgb version with solid rear panel got recently released, without black accents it looks much cleaner and you save a lot money too, what else to ask for? I cancelled my orders and purchased this new case and the new white rgb fans as well to go all in this time. The temperatures are great without rear fan but I think I will add a 120 mm one, because it is quite dark in this area.$3,056.92 -

I am a first-time pc builder and a lifelong mac user, so starting the pc building process was a daunting task! I wanted a desk setup that was powerful enough to handle anything I could throw at it including games at 4k. As a mac user I never really got a chance to play games bc of platform issues, so I really want to play through games like the Halo series, God of War, and some competitive games like Overwatch. It took me literally forever to figure out how to build a pc but in hindsight I wish I spent more time figuring out how to cable manage while building the thing. But honestly I was so stressed during the building process because I was worried whether or not it would even turn on... so I don't really mind that the wires look crazy lol. I'm glad I had help from employees at Microcenter while building this otherwise I'm not sure I would have even been able to put together something that turned on.$2,214.91 -

Finally upgrading a work PC that handles IT tasks (admin domain services), multi camera video editing, and gaming. Going from a 6700K to a 7700x is going to help a ton when having multiple windows, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and a browser with multiple tabs and tutorial vids playing. Lots of Handbrake encoding using all cores to get a library of vids to not eat all my storage.$1,889.94 -

I had already planned to build this PC when the 3000 series was announced, albeit using a 3070 rather than the ti. My old build used a 2600x and a 1660ti, which was a very good price to performance pairing, but I recently got myself my first ultrawide, a 3440x1440 34" Viotek GN34BC, for an amazing deal from eBay. A pretty good upgrade over my old 24" Sceptre display. Unfortunately, my 1660ti couldn't drive it that well so I've been slowly buying parts for this build and signing up for as many GPU stock alerts as I could. I finally got an email from EVGA saying that a 3070ti was in stock, it wasn't the card I wanted (3070 XC3 Gaming) but it was in stock for MSRP. I jumped on it and it arrived only a few days later. This PC absolutely crushes any game I throw at it, easily hitting the 100hz refresh rate of my ultrawide. I also do a bit of streaming and the 5600x is a great bang for the buck streaming CPU. NVENC is amazing, with no frame drops while encoding 1080p60 5Kb/s streams. Can also push my Quest 2's full res at 120fps without breaking a sweat.$2,034.39 -
