Instead of trying to figure out what parts needed to be replaced, I thought it was a good time to just build an entire new PC from scratch. I built this mainly for gaming as I use a Macbook Pro for work and other day to day tasks. Given that this was my first build and I wasn't too confident, I did not want to spend a whole lot and just opted for the best bang for the buck I could get. I've wanted to build a gaming PC since last August, and now I've done it. It's much better than I first planned. The primary reason for this PC is for gaming, so deciding which GPU to get is important. It's the first part I brought. I do many things with a pc(Play Games, Run LLMs, Write Code, ETC,)and I got sick of my old laptop(i5-10300H, GTX 1650 TI mobile, 8gb DDR4 2933mhz.) So I decided to build a brand new powerhouse, in which I am writing this right now. Now that I have built my own rig at this point, time to give you some advice. First and foremost, if you want the absolute best PTP(Price To Performance)PLEASE do not give in to any of those prebuilt pcs, they are built and sold for a profit(which I, in all means respect.)Like I got a 4070 TI Super and Ryzen 9 7950x3d, With the amount that I spent I could only get an i9-13900kf and 4070 TI from NZXT and from Build Redux I could only get a 4070 TI Super and 7950x with only 16gb ram(in NZXT and custom I got 32gb). I built this to replace a 10+ year old gaming PC that was starting to show it's age. I mostly play older games like Unreal Tournament 2004, COD, etc., and wanted something reliable that would run smoothly on my 2K monitors. I also wanted to go RGB for the "coolness" factor (don't judge me) and provide some ambient lighting in the room while playing. In addition to the components listed below, I went with Corsair iCUE LINK QX120 RGB fans and a Corsair iCUE Link RGB LCD AIO because I liked the LCD screen showing system temps or pictures. I also purchased a custom 12VHPR cable with a right angle connection for the GPU and also plugs directly into the PSU (not an extender). The length on it is perfect so there are no sharp bends which is highly recommended with these HPR cables. These extra components added about $550 to the cost, so the total cost for the system was about $2,500.$1,938.94 -

I built this PC in the midst of the GPU Shortage, with parts salvaged from a prebuilt gaming machine. There are no original parts left in the case at this point, but it all started with migrating the build from the original case to the Lian Li Lancool II for improved airflow. I'll also say that case-swapping a prebuilt is more work than building from scratch. From there, over the next two years, I would go on to upgrade the power supply, RAM, GPU, AIO cooler, and added Lian Li RGB Strimer cables for extra FPS! Just two days ago, I swapped the original motherboard and CPU for one of microcenters AMD bundles and now this thing is in its penultimate form. I plan to get rid of all of the RGB and put this born-again-and-again beast into a Fractal North XL case, as much like this PC has matured over the last few years, so have my tastes...even if it means I'll lose some FPS due to lack of RGB.$3,192.90 -

For games, I enjoy racing sims and racing arcade games such as Project CARS 2 and 3, Forza, and Assetto Corsa Competizione in VR at 4k 90hz. For AI, I run large language models locally, which takes a ton of memory bandwidth and capacity. Microcenter offered a great price on an i7 12700k, which can run my 64GB DDR5 kit at 6200 MT/s. To get the full 6600 MT/s that my kit is rated for, I can uprgrade to a 14th gen chip at a later time if I choose. The massive VRMs of this system's motherboard, the MSI Z690 Ace, should have no issues with the higher core count and power draw of 14th gen. Still, I am pleased with the i7 12700k's performance right now. Upgrading to 12th gen from my old 10th gen setup doubled my memory bandwidth and almost doubled the speed of my large language models. The Gigabyte 3090 Ti is a great VR and AI card too: 24GB VRAM is not a limiting factor in gaming, and almost every VR game runs better on Nvidia than AMD. 24GB VRAM is the sweet spot at this time for AI.$1,824.98 -

CPU: The processor I used hasn't been heavily utilized, and it hasn't exceeded 50-60 degrees. This ensures that the CPU remains cool while delivering optimal performance. Cooler: The cooler I chose not only looks great with its RGB lighting, but it's also relatively quiet. However, I would like the pumps to have a smoother curve. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please leave a comment. RAM: The RAM I used is nothing special, but it gets the job done. It came with the CPU as part of a bundle. Motherboard: This is a great first build motherboard, and it also came with the CPU in a bundle. The WiFi speeds are pretty good, and it has all the necessary features for a solid gaming PC.$1,679.92 -

RAM, and an RX 580 (which was the newest component). This old workhorse could handle most indie and older/more modest 3D games at 1080p, but modern titles were only playable at 30fps and low settings. With my new (long overdue) build, I may not be playing the most graphically intense games out there, but I've been able to max out the following titles at 1440p and comfortably run them above 60fps (where possible) without the need for upscaling: Baldur's Gate III Helldivers 2 Elden Ring Armored Core VI Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Remnant II Last Epoch I've also been able to multitask while playing the aforementioned titles, i.e. streaming several videos on a second monitor without any noticeable dips in game performance.$1,574.90 -

I have moved a lot of PC parts and upgraded but this is the final upgrade. This gaming PC can tackle any 1440p game with no issues and can also compute anything for my work needs. The 5800x3d is the best CPU from AM4 to keep all my frames steady and the 3080 pushes those frames. I know I couldve gotten 'better' components but for the budget, these 2 were the best I can get comfortably without feeling guilty. The PC has no rgb but that's what I like. I wanted to keep it all black (GPU has a little bit of RGB but it's very subtle which is fine). Furthermore, routing the cables in the PC was a breeze due to the SF750's cables being sleeved so bending it was no issue at all.$1,689.95 -
