Before deciding to update to a better pc, I needed to figure out what to do with my first gaming computer. I transformed it to a dedicated server hosting machine that utilizes TrueNas and virtualization to deliver on my video game server hosting needs. With this simple setup, I can host Rust, Mincraft, and many other servers. Although my GPU is not utilized, I still have it attached in case I want to utilize it for rendering gameplay videos remotely.$1,404.96 -

This is a home NAS system running TrueNAS 13 (at the time of building), plus a modded Minecraft server inside a Virtual Machine and a Plex Media server running inside a BSD Jail. I picked the case for the hot-swappable drive bays and wasn't disappointed, they work perfectly as advertised and I should be able to expand it going forward if needed. The additional fans are quiet and keep everything well managed. Although it's worth noting that the case includes its own fan that is connected to the drive bays by a 2pin fan header, meaning it will always run at maximum RPM, and is quite loud. Bafflingly, the fan is actually a 4-pin PWM fan, and I would highly recommend connecting it to the motherboard via a Y-splitter to other case fans, rather than using the case header. Also, being a reasonably cheap case for the feature-set, it does not feature folded metal edges, the metal panels have very sharp internal edges and I did actually slash my finger quite badly installing one of the fans. But aside from that everything went relatively smoothly and I'm very happy with the performance so far.$973.77 -

I wanted to build something that I could race, game, run Plex server, and watch 4K movies on with true HDR. All-in-one, and one-for-all; not separate devices! I built it and the gaming part was great, but the 4k Blu-ray part was only so-so : ( And then I moved on to a 3080 12GB ITX build and a second-hand XBox One S, because two purpose built things are always better than an all-in-one thing! Learn from my learning experience : ) Some of the part choices were forced, because the last CPU that supports Blu-ray disc playback is the Intel 10th Gen. I would have loved to go for an 11400 at the time (12th gen wasn't out yet, though I would have gotten the 12600K had I known a used XBox was such a better BD player), but a 10700K was my choice. Fitting it into the Silverstone Grandia 09 case was a challenge, especially for CPU cooling. I wanted something that could cool better than a low-profile Noctua, so I shoved a 120mm Arctic Freezer radiator in there. Also a learning experience; 120mm rads are not all that much better than air cooling -_- And although I did not need to, one foresight was to get an EVGA SFX-size power supply, as that made fitting power cables near the radiator MUCH easier.$1,560.89 -

And it was time to retire Windows 7. And it runs 24/7. This rig is used for everything from everyday use to streaming, to PLEX server, to hardcore flight simming. It's my do everything rig and Im proud that everything works with no issues no matter what I through at it. I had multiple machines that I used for various tasks around the house and gaming, but decided to consolidate into single machine which is now what you see here; Vader. Vader is an Intel 10900K 5.4ghz behemoth boasting 64gb of G.Skill Ripjaws overclocked to 4000mhz cl15, an ASUS Strix OC 2080ti with a 1060 daughter card for more displays, 50tb of HDD disk space, 4tb of Samsung Evo powered NVME goodness, and more monitors than most people can handle - 7 (65in Oled, 2 LG 34in, 1 Acer 38in, and 4 ASUS 22in touchscreens). Audio for this machine is power by a Matrix Audio X-Sabre Pro MQA DAC that feeds a Monoprice 887 amp leading to the reference level Sennheiser HD800S with seat attached bass shakers and a Jet Seat for rumble immersion. Input devices are led by an iKBC MF87 keyboard, Corsair m65 mouse, 3 Elgato Stream Decks - Mini, Default, and XL, a Real Simulator joystick, Thrustmaster TPR pedals, Winwing Throttle, 2 DSD button boxes, and a TrackIR This whole machine is a never ending upgrading monster. I always tell my wife that Ill be done after the next upgrade, but low and behold there is always one more over the next horizon.$14,280.92
