I originally built this rig purely for gaming but over the years that I've had, I've been doing more with it such as school work and video editing. I edit using Davinci Resolve 17 and I'm able to to play pretty much any game with this rig but in recent triple A titles like Elden Ring it does have a few hiccups.$743.93 -

My parents are running a 4th-gen Core i5 computer with 8GB of RAM that is really starting to bog down. I started looking for a replacement computer for them, but was unhappy with the price for performance offered by pre-builds. So, I offered to build them a computer. I think this option ends up giving them the best bang for the buck.$744.93 -

The i5 beats the previous-gen Core i9 part in gaming for cheap, so great value there. And the RX 6600 is the absolute best value midrange GPU of this generation, maybe ever, if you get it at the right price: I got this MSI model for $260, which is honestly amazing for this level of performance.$747.94 -

Went with Asus TUF motherboard (versus cheapest B660 Microcenter sold) to in theory get better VRM for any future, higher core count, CPU upgrade. That said, at six cores the i5-12400 already has two more cores than the i7-3770k it replaced. Primary reason for upgrading was to have VT-d support for device passthrough to VMs.$764.96 -

This is to make the best bang-for-buck PC that will play Helldivers 2 while still looking good. It's an all-black, RGB-less build in one of the most compact cases that can fit a full size ATX motherboard and power supply. It offers tons of room for fans to keep everything cool and quiet at the same time. The Micro Center CPU-RAM-Mobo combo was essential for staying in budget.$772.49 -

This gaming PC was made after a few of the family's windows laptops were damaged. We have a mac at home, but wanted a dedicated Windows PC at home. I used one of the Micro Center Intel bundles as the basis for the gaming build (The $250 one with the Core i5), then picked out parts to build on top of it. A good thing for my current budget was that I had various storage devices at hand for this build. I did decide to get the case elsewhere as I found an open box deal for a case that normally costs $100. I am happy with how things have turned out for this build. For upgrades, I plan on buying more sticks of ram to double the memory capacity and I am in the middle of getting be quiet case fans for the desktop as the case only had two pre-installed and were quite loud and rumbled a lot. I know the motherboard supports the current 14th gen cpu's, so I may do that whenever those go down in price. And if necessary, I might change the CPU cooler if the current $20 one craps out in the future.$772.92 -
