I have always wanted to build my own gaming PC but never had the budget to get specifically what I wanted. But now I was able to save up enough and did a bunch of research on the specs and prices I was looking for and got exactly what I needed for my ideal gaming PC. I mainly want to be able to playing games at ultra graphics and high FPS and knowing that GTA 6 is on its way, I know I'm gonna need something really powerful if I wanna run it that way. I like a wide range of games like 3rd and 1st person shooters and even games like Sims or Planet Zoo or Age of Empires. Even Fifa and some racing games as well. I also use the PC for video editing. Not super high end hollywood crazy stuff but yeah. Just random home vids, I'm still learning. Just got DaVinci Resolve.$1,315.94 -

To celebrate the opening of a Microcenter near to me, and because I needed a computer sooner than I could save up for the parts I wanted, I decided to do a challenge where I would build a computer using ONLY the grand opening deals they had. So far I love this PC, and it has been able to run my needs (Ark: Survival Evolved, Anno 1800, FF XIV) with the exception of Cities Skylines, but that may be software related (it won't actually load and run.) Otherwise, for a computer that cost only 2/3rd to a half of what it would otherwise be, I am quite happy with this first of hopefully many PC builds with a local MicroCenter.$2,300.86 -

I spec'ed out the rig, but made key changes at the store with the help of the MC staff to substitute some items. The motherboard stopped working. Initial intention was to upgrade to AMD 4 which had both good specs and prices. However, AMD 5 was on the horizon and I decided to wait and build to that spec to provide a longer life for the motherboard. I selected AMD as my builds for my wife use Intel and thus I could compare prices, specs, features, etc. The AMD 3 computer was quite efficient and more than sufficient for my foci on writing, from essays to books, and basic graphics. I often had multiple programs open as writing required accessing sources, looking at uses of the sources and my music to work by, ideally running simultaneously. The graphics programs were used for cleaning up old family photos, films and other materials such as newspapers. As I am not professionally into photo and video technology, I use basic software such as that from Cyberlink. The family pictures date to the turn of the 20th century and by the late 1930’s included old Kodak family films. I then sent the processed files to third parties to be placed on DVD’s which were distributed to family. For my AMD 5, all components were purchased locally, all but one M2 at Microcenter as I want to keep such local sources viable. I selected the Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite motherboard, The retail cost was under $300, had the latest chipset and could be bundled with both other hardware and software. I was particularly interested in using M2 storage and the motherboard had three slots for it, one tied directly to the CPU and two PCle 4.0 slots. For memory I purchased a one TB M2 2280 for the CPU slot on which I put Windows 11 and a second partition for downloaded software that I installed in the C: partition. For data files I selected a 2 TB mvme which was a later purchase from Best Buy. The latter was on special sale, almost 50% off. On this device I created three partitions for storing documents, music and pictures/videos. I had planned on using my existing 3 TB HDD but it too had stopped working. I hope to recover the data from it. The slots for the M2 storage are under a heat sink located next to the PCle 16 slot. Thus the M2 devices did not need any heat sinks. The slots are partially under my PowerColor RX 6600 graphics card with 8 GB of memory. I am not a gamer so don’t need the most recent graphics chips but did want a decent card with sufficient memory for a future 32 inch monitor. I purchased a Ryzen 7 7700X CPU that was bundled with 32 GB of GSkill memory. I selected the Noctua UH-14S cooler. The cooler is a large passive heat sink nearly six inches high and three inches wide. It comes with an attached fan but a second fan can be attached to the other side. I installed only one fan. I used existing hardware for the rest of the build. All was installed in my Antec server mid-tower case that has room for the cooler. The case has temperature controlled fans, one on the top back of the case and two on the top of the case. I reused my Antec 1000 watt platinum modular PSU along with my LG internal Blu-ray read/write drive. I have a 27 inch ASUS monitor and connected it via HDMI. After more than a month of using the new build, it runs fast and cool. The CPU cooler fan is almost noiseless and the case fans have not been turned on as the operating temperature is low. Booting takes less than 15 seconds and shutting down is about 5 seconds. The build was under $1,500 including tax. I look forward to increased efficiency and pleasure in my computing.$1,084.94 -

Built a new gaming/encoding/media PC rig to replace my aging 8700k/GTX 1660 rig. Went AMD this time - AMD R9 7900X CPU, AMD RX 6950 TX GPU, 64 GB DDR5 6000 Ram, 3 2TB PCI4 4x4 M2 SSD's (OS and APPS, Games, and encoding), ASUS X670-P PRIME WIFI AMD AM5 ATX Motherboard. 2 Additional PCIE USB 3.2 cards (I need LOTS of USB ports for peripherals and the 8 USB3 media storage drives - 125TB total and growing), 750w full modular PS, be quiet SHADOW ROCK TF CPU Cooler, low noise SHADOW ROCK case fans. Stuffed it all in a Silverstone Media PC case. Small compromises were made. Could not fit a liquid cooler so had to go with high efficiency air cooler (be quiet SHADOW ROCK TF) and extra low noise SHADOW ROCK case fans. Originally picked up an RX 7900 TX GPU but it too would not fit the case, so had to fall back to the RX 6950 TX Reference model (2" shorter). Everything fits pretty tight but the Silverstone case is really shitty for cable management, but it all worked out.$1,810.92
