With the top-of-the-line 14700k CPU and the 4090 GPU, it can run any game with ease. I did spend quite a fortune, but I won't have to upgrade my PC for a long time, saving time and money.

Mostly new parts but bought CPU and case with fans second hand and a few things on deals or with coupons savings money. Putting it together was very easy after watching videos and reading manuals. Just need to take time and be firm but delicate with parts. As for bios settings, using Intel POR helps keep everything cool and playing games with no hassle. Fans don’t get very loud when going full blast so generally a very pleasant experience using the PC so far.

This is a new home machine to replace my venerable but arthritic 3rd Gen i7. The old machine was a Shuttle SZ77r5 with 32 GB of RAM and an i7-3770k with an EVGA NVidia 1650 (the only part that has survived into the new build). The new machine is quite an upgrade, with an i7-14700 and 64 GB of RAM, Two WD black 850x SSDs running NVMe (2TB and 4TB), all housed in a Phanteks Evo Shift XT case, cooled with a Cooler Master 240 Atmos ARGB AIO. The new Case is an even tighter fit than the old Shuttle case, though longer and taller. The case has a nice solid feel though it's not great for travel. I'm happy that it comes with a front USBC and USB3.1 port. Unfortunately the integrated color selector and mode switches running off the integrated infinity panel, don't talk to the ASRock RGB controller and are just overridden by it, so no front panel button control for lighting unless I dump the MB integration. Securing the Micro-ITX board required tweezers and patience to line up everything, particularly on the bottom, and some of the CPU and Fan headers end up right at the bottom of the case since the MB ends up almost upside down, making it a challenge to connect them after mounting the board. I'm fairly happy with the cable routing otherwise, though I do wish the bottom of the Phanteks chassis (it sits inside the Aluminum outer case) did come apart for easier access, but it is unfortunately riveted to the chassis elements instead of screwed in. It would also be a nice place to mount a fan at the bottom of the case, and it would provide welcome access to the 'top' of the MB for all the FAN headers and mounting screws. But I'm satisfied overall. I do plan to upgrade the graphics card (Christmas maybe), but this is much more of a general purpose DEV/IT Admin/Home PC and I don't game much so it's not that pressing to me. Right now I use it to support a number of Virtualbox VMs and for personal development work.

I've been piecing this build together a bit at a time for the last six months. I mainly kept an eye out for components that would be a significant upgrade over my 11900K / 3070 Ti desktop build. Shoutout to the employees at my local microcenter who take time to hunt down the random clearance items I order. Everything but the AIO cooler and the ssd storage devices were bought at microcenter. Currently on the 13700k, I have all P cores overclocked to 5.8 with all E cores at 4.4 with vcore set to 1.35 and medium LLC. My ddr5 is modestly overclocked from 6000 to 6400 for the time being. I need to re-learn how to overclock ram because a lot of bios settings have become more complex since ddr3-ddr4 days. From what I understand, Hynix A die modules should be able to overclock significantly higher frequencies - I just need to learn how to pull that off.

Initially, this project started out with me just wanting to recase my Omen 30L. Waltzed into MicroCenter for a new case and mobo which I got. But then everything else started coming into play since the case/mobo just wasn't enough. Foolishly I asked the BYOP team if they had any 4090s in stock and they did. They happened to have the ROG Strix 4090 I was looking for and, well, everything kinda went downhill after that. Next thing I know I'm choosing RAM, finding an optimal price for a PSU and then trying to source all the fans I wanted for the build. Whole process took a little over a month or so and lots and lots of $$$$. But, now that everything's complete and rig is working fine, I am a happy camper now.

I've been in a long wait with MSI while they process a RMA replacement for my primary graphics card, a MSI SUPRIM 3090 Ti. During this downtime, I got impatient and decided to use the opportunity of not having a giant brick of a graphics card to work around. I ended up upgrading most of my system: new motherboard (MSI z790 Ace), new cpu (Intel i5 24600k), and new kit of ddr5 (32gb of G.Skill TridentZ 6400). In the current state of cardlessness, everything is running great as far as a general use desktop PC. Just waiting on MSI to get the card back in and resume gaming.

I don't do much gaming anymore, but my old build was 2015, and I literally could not play some of the more recent games even if I wanted to. The old build was still fine for most day-to-day stuff and I wanted another build that would go the distance. So here we are. My first build was 1998, and PC components have come a long way. I wanted something that could run Cyberpunk at 2k on max settings and still get over 60 FPS. I wanted something that I could hook up a top tier VR headset to without worries. The Lian Li components are super good, but they don't have great software support. Mostly, I would say that they are first rate components with second rate software running them. It often resets, and I can't update because of their file servers (or lack thereof). The Lian Li case is superb. The strimmer lighting looks great and is customizable. The CPU cooler is where the RGB software could be better. Even with the great cable management, the back of that case is STUFFED with cables, Lian Li USB controllers, internal USB hub. The fact that I put a RAID 10 SSD array in there didn't help with space. It seems like no mater what improvements are made with cable management, I'll find a way to fill it with cables! I was going with an ASUS 4080, but it was out of stock when I went to the store, so I settled for the Zotac. It's fine, but the RGB is about 3 years behind the RDG in the rest of the box. Even though it was 1200 bucks, I won't hesitate to return it if the 4080 super comes out in time. I may replace it with a 5000 series in a couple of years. My background is scientific computing, and this PC is about on par with the number of threads and memory that was in $20K servers I was using in 2010. I really like that it's super quiet, even with 6 fans. When its running full blast, its makes half the noise that my 2015 does. I'll probably try DnD next...but then will go back to checking my email! This PC specs out in the top 1% in Passmark. But 1% is a huge number of builds. Maybe next time I go ThreadRipper and Nivida XX90!

My consulting business requires some power and my laptop was aging far too rapidly. I also downloaded Baldurs Gate 3 and when it kept crashing that was the final straw, I decided to build my own showcase instead of just building them for other people. With a budget of only $800 I built the most powerful build I could and it takes everything i've thrown at it and then some. I'd like to upgrade the processor as soon as possible and potentially take advantage of DDR5 rather than the current DDR4

I wanted a machine that could last me more than 5 years, and I am confident that this is the one. This machine build is mainly to get me more power for video editing and production as well as photography. I am starting to explore the world of Steam tho lol. I tried to get this machine ProArt as much as I could get it. Other than the case from NXZT (which is AMAZING) and the RAM, everything in this box is ASUS. I wanted to theme the box out will gold highlight, but I really like the decision to go with white for the case. Everything else I left black and the box looks clean AF. I did add a ThermalRight contact frame to this socket, and it has changed my life!!! Highly recommended. I may have also splurged a little when it came to the AIO with the Ryujin III, but........... The Delorean from Back to the Future looks FANTASTIC on it so it's a keeper.

Got tired of opening up my Q58 all the time to let my gpu and cpu breath, and really wanted something different. Got lucky and someone local was selling a XTIA Proto-L. Ordered some extra parts for the XTIA and went to work on 3D printing some pieces and sleeving some custom cables for the build. Made a orange set, then a purple set, and it just didn't sit well with my brand new strix 3090. So I decided to try something different and went with gunmetal paracord 425 vs the typical 550 to get some tighter sleeving. As for 3D mods, I knew I needed to add a front/side I/O since I didn't want to tilt the pc everytime I needed to plug something in, so I grabbed a cheap USB C hub from amazon and went to work tinkercading a cover/support for the side. I probably printed 5-6 different variation to finally settle with this one. I also did simple mod of creating a cover for the ugly red riser.
