They need something that will meet minimum standards to play their basic games, do homework, and other general PC-based activities. This was the plan going into this project. It isn't top of the line by ANY standard, but it can be considered a gaming rig. It was built for a 10 year old, so the standards didn't have to be high, but it DID need to meet certain minimum requirements with processing speed, RAM, and graphics capabilities.$447.94 -

I was overdue for a graphics card upgrade (had previously been using an nvidia gtx 1060 6gb card). Actually, make that overdue for an everything upgrade. I finally decided that the time was now because the 4070 super at around $600 according to the reviews delivers exactly the kind of 1440p resolution gaming performance that I have been looking for. I mainly play looter shooter games like the Borderlands series and the other borderlands spinoffs.$580.93 -

The point of this PC was to be a huge focus on value, not spending any money on anything unnecessary but still looking clean and with some RGB. Performance is great at 1080p and even 1440p as the RTX 3060 is still a great card for most games. The white Powerspec power supply with white cable sleeves really completes this PC as only the GPU and motherboard stand out as not matching the colour scheme.$675.93 -

I've been playing on a 10 year PC with a RX 290 on a 60 Hz monitor with dead pixels, so this is a huge upgrade for gaming experience. I am also planning on helping a friend put together a podcast, so some light media processing. In addition, I will continue to do programming and signal processing work, now much faster and easier.$893.93 -

The goal was a system that could do actual work at home on a budget with a clear upgrade path. Build began black friday 2019. Prices reflect current list prices per the website, not what was paid. Not intended for professional production work, hoping for a 4 year service life as primary machine. Budget was $750 to get a working system and later upgrade as needed. 3d modeling and CAD is the main purpose (less than 1,000 parts). It also does light video editing, photo editing, transcoding, and able to run most games. The most used programs still heavily rely on a single core CPU and tons of ram. It is also remotely accessed on the local network to do heavier work from a laptop and raspberry pi. The 4th gen i3 Intel laptop isn't capable of heavy tasks with out crashing so it was time for a desktop build. The 3600x faster clock speed was more important than the more cores of the 3700 for the programs used. 2 cores for 50% price increase didn't make sense for this build. Not sure if the cache would make much of a difference for typical usage. Went with x570 chipset hoping to upgrade CPU near end of next generation life to extend machine life. Not overclocking for now so using stock cooler. Needed mobo with wifi, x570, lots of usb, nvme m.2, and gigabit lan. Initially reused old PSU, Fans, Case, HDD and Sata SSD. Case is very oversized for the components but the price was right and has lots of airflow. Replaced 10 year old PSU and upgraded small Sata SSD to M.2 SSD this summer. PSU is overkill for current build but will accommodate any upgrades and 650w was out of stock. Programs with the option to CPU or GPU calculate seem to get better results with CPU but run slower. Easy to queue up the processes and let it run overnight. Choice was made to spend money on the CPU and ram over the GPU. Ray tracing video cards should improve real time productivity but the cost was not justifiable. Instead the best value card available that ran 1080p with multiple outputs was selected while waiting for the next generation of RTX cards. Ray tracing is a huge improvement for point cloud work productivity. For reference, my professional rig uses lastest gen quadro cards and 4x monitors for this kind of work. Will probably reuse the card for an ITX media center machine. The ram seems like overkill for the rest of the system but it will help with the programs currently running and allows for other parts to be upgraded without creating a bottleneck. It also left 2 ram slots open for upgrades. Highest consistent use is around 24 gb of ram. Dual channel helps too. Minimal local storage because of local NAS and off site backup. Wifi motherboard gave the flexibility to move the machine anywhere without extra cables. The couple extra dollars for the wifi motherboard was easy and better than the cost of a dedicated card. Still prefer the Ethernet connection. Added 3x salvaged optical drives for CD & DVD archive project. Raspberry pi's connected to a monitor to remote in from workshop areas. Access to plans, manuals, and videos greatly improves garage productivity. Also keeps a nice machine out of dirty, humid, and freezing environments.$1,081.93 -

I built it because I really wanted to get into PC gaming and I liked the idea of having an all-in-one item, that allowed me to play video games and be productive all at the same time. I mostly play Escape from Tarkov and Rocket League! I would love to upgrade to a new GPU, like a 3080, since I play in 1440p.$1,184.94
