The plan for this build was to assemble something simple for the everyday use of my 3 newphews and 1 niece. This means general purpose, light productivity tasks, and light gaming. At the same time, I tried to lay the foundation to allow for an easier upgrade path in the future (if we decide to go down those roads). For example, if future needs require it, I can add a discrete graphics card or pci-e 4.0 nvme storage drives.$959.93 -

This started out as a "minor upgrade" to my gaming machine... ended up as a "build completely new machine and only keep the GPU and data drive". And I only kept the data drive since I replaced it a couple of months ago. Components not listed are the RTX 2080ti GPU, a 500GB NVMe as a boot device and a 2TB NVMe for data. Both Samsungs, but I don't remember the exact models (Evo 980 and 970 something). I output to a TV so I'm limited to 60FPS at 4K, and so far I am getting that with the highest settings on every game I've tried with no DLSS.$1,058.63 -

I haven't really gamed much in the past. However, recently I've been into story-ish type games, like Jedi Fallen Order, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Guardians of the Galaxy, but I've also enjoyed puzzle games as well like The Talos Principle and Portal 2. I also enjoyed Control, even if I played it with the sound off to keep it less creepy :) If you noticed in the build, there isn't a graphics card... I upgraded to this desktop from a laptop with a 1650Ti, but have been using GeForce Now to play games in the meantime until graphics cards become available/more reasonable in price. Hopefully I don't run out of fun things to play in the meantime... In hindsight, I may have gone a bit overkill with a 12600k/Z690/D15s build... time will tell. Thankfully, I stalked and bought almost everything on sale so hopefully didn't overpay way too much. Eventually, I might pick up a small/tasteful amount of RGB, but I'm a little leery of losing performance/having lags due to RGB software as I've heard horror stories.$1,088.85 -

After a couple of years of having an SFF gaming build, I decided that I want to go back to ATX. This build is a combination of reusing parts from the past along with black friday buys. I play Overwatch, Counter Strike 2, Valheim, Elden Ring, and lately have been playing all of the Kingdom Hearts game at 4k. The 3070 works well at 4k for me. On less demanding games I can fully saturate my 160hz 4k monitor, and at more intensive games I can reach 80fps with some graphics tweaks. I plan to upgrade to the 5800x3d, and in the future plan to upgrade to the next gen gpu's, but my 3070 has been treating me great so far so not really pressured to upgrade my gpu yet.$1,194.96 -

I've been playing on and off since early access and it's always demanded power. Recently got back into it and couldn't run it as clean as I wanted. So I upgraded! I play a lot of other games of course as well, but Rust is the one that pushes my PC. Other games played: League of Legends, Borderlands, Witcher, XCOM, many others. Hack 'n' Slash, RPG, MMO, FPS, etc, etc. If it's fun, I try to play it.$1,229.92 -

The computer is primarily used for gaming, along with some software development for uni. Some of the games I play are Apex, Valorant, CSGO, and some other multi-player FPS. The build features the slowly-becoming-obsolete optical drive with its purpose being playing Blu-Ray, CDs, and for data archiving (using M-DISC). The build was originally nested inside a Lian Li Lancool 2 Air, but due to how difficult maintenance was, it was moved to a testbench. Future upgrade might include a newer GPU and CPU (currently waiting for Zen 3 with stacked cache).$1,270.00 -
