My daughter wanted a better computer and since she helps me upgrade mine from time to time she wanted to build her own. We told her if she could keep it around 500.00 budget we'd help her, so we scoured forums and youtube videos for less expensive builds. We found Toasty Bros there, and they in turn directed us to microcenter where we found a very nice cpu/motherboard/ram combo. with the combo and new case we came in around $570. She got her wish and I got a great father-daughter moment to cherish the rest of my life. :D$574.95 -

Historically have had stock Dells and would have probably been fine again but wanted to try building my own. General use PC, some less graphics-intensive gaming, some encoding for home server, and some basic photo editing. No interest in aesthetics so no glass panels or lights, just a good functional PC. Build turned out to be a challenge due to the original motherboard choice. I was having problems with a stable ethernet connection which I first thought was my router, as did Verizon who swapped it out. After numerous hours of investigating and purchasing a separate Ethernet card, I found out the Intel LAN controller was faulty. This appears to be a common issue and was solved by getting a board with a Realtek controller. Was regretting building part way through but got there in the end and probably learned a lot more. Everything working well now. In addition to swapping out the graphics card for a RTX 3060 or maybe 2060 super, I'll also add another lower cost 1TB NVMe for back up.$663.93 -

A complete beast of a PC that I have spent 1.3k on- The Pros: - Runs fast and has DLSS 2.0 Compatibility - Quiet, barely makes a sound - Has easily swapable parts that help with upgrades and the like. The Cons: - Silicon is Expensive :D - No Heatsink on I/O for MoBo, and only one heatsink for 2nd NVME Slot (No surprise there) - Will have to upgrade in 5 years or so What is it used for? - Content Creation, more specifically 1080p Video Editing and the like - Gaming, and lots of it thanks to the graphics it can pull off - Just messing around and whatever I need it to do. The Core i5 pulls it's weight by the ton, I've never used something this fast before. Advice- I actually got my Monitor from Costco, it's only 199.99 and runs like a dream. Also, be careful with the case screws, if you don't get them right the first time putting in your GPU will be a nightmare. Also, for GPUs, if you intend on getting an EVGA brand one look for their B-stock, it often eliminates anywhere from 30-100 dollars off their cards ;) Overall, happy with my first build and would 10/10 Recommend$1,041.91 -

Built it in 2022 during the chip shortage~ higher price but I needed to build a editing PC with gaming in mind. It's a mid-range build that can handle 1440p gaming in high-ultra settings and crazy rendering speed whenever I export 4K projects or create proxy files. It may not be ideal for some, may not be top of the line, but, it works well for me. Planning on putting it off the ground when i have more desk space, hence it's above the carpet with a wooden board to add some protection from dust.$1,049.93 -

Same case, power supply, but updated cpu, cpu cooler, motherboard, ram, graphics card. Looking to finish updating the case and power supply soon, probably psu first and going higher power and modular, might just do case and power supply at same time since both are old.$1,057.90 -

I play games like Battlebit Remastered, Spiderman, Valorant and various other E-Sport titles. I talk to my friends a ton using this PC. I haven't really gamed much in the past. However, recently I've been into story-ish type games, like Jedi Fallen Order, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Guardians of the Galaxy, but I've also enjoyed puzzle games as well like The Talos Principle and Portal 2. I also enjoyed Control, even if I played it with the sound off to keep it less creepy :) If you noticed in the build, there isn't a graphics card... I upgraded to this desktop from a laptop with a 1650Ti, but have been using GeForce Now to play games in the meantime until graphics cards become available/more reasonable in price. Hopefully I don't run out of fun things to play in the meantime... In hindsight, I may have gone a bit overkill with a 12600k/Z690/D15s build... time will tell. Thankfully, I stalked and bought almost everything on sale so hopefully didn't overpay way too much. Eventually, I might pick up a small/tasteful amount of RGB, but I'm a little leery of losing performance/having lags due to RGB software as I've heard horror stories.$1,088.85 -
