Went with Asus TUF motherboard (versus cheapest B660 Microcenter sold) to in theory get better VRM for any future, higher core count, CPU upgrade. That said, at six cores the i5-12400 already has two more cores than the i7-3770k it replaced. Primary reason for upgrading was to have VT-d support for device passthrough to VMs.$764.96 -

I've been playing on a 10 year PC with a RX 290 on a 60 Hz monitor with dead pixels, so this is a huge upgrade for gaming experience. The reason I built this computer is because I wanted my brother needed one, and I wanted to make sure the components were as efficient as possible in order for the computer to last multiple years without upgrades. I used a B660m max mortar with a 12400 to BCLK overclock the cpu to a stable, but way better cpu. The 4070 is one of the best value buys for the 40 series, and should last a long time. Lastly, the ram is CL18 3600mhz; kinda slow, but it’ll get the job done. The game he mostly plays is League of Legends, which this build is way overkill for, but if he decides he wants to play more intense games, this build be able to handle anything at 1440p.$1,320.83 -

This build has been a work in progress for well over 2 years ever since my 'gaming' laptop died, but this project remained on the backburner for quite some time as prices on GPU's were hard to justify for a long time. In the meantime I replaced my laptop with a Macbook but the screen on that is rather small and gaming isn't really an option. So here we are, the PC build with a modern GPU faster than 2080 Super with all the bells and whistles. The older titles I play run exceptionally at 4K Max and even Cyberpunk is playable thanks to DLSS. I feel like I can accomplish anything with this PC, whether its business related AutoCad work to using it as a network-wide home NAS server. I went with the Lian Li case not only b/c it's become iconic on the internet, but also b/c it's spacious having room for a secondary power supply as Der Bauer described it. This means I can easily upgrade anything down the road as I plan on keeping the case for a long time. I should have waited for the newer 40 series cards as they're probably a better value, but frankly I doubt I'd notice the difference.$1,351.94 -

The aim of this build was a white, upper mid-tier gaming machine with a smaller footprint with a price point under $1500. This was my first time working with the Micro ATX format, I'm happy to be able to start building smaller, lighter machines. The Jonsbo case worked quite well and was overall pretty easy to work with and had plenty of room for everything (the GPU and 140mm bottom mounted case fans were the most difficult parts). The wiring is a bit of a mess, but it's mostly hidden behind the SSD panel. The look could be improved a bit with white power supply cables and perhaps some better finagling of the GPU power connector, but it's fine for us as is.$1,524.92 -

I originally had an inexpensive HP desktop but it was not powerful enough for what I needed so I decided to build a PC from scratch to fit my needs. Over the past year and a half I've slowly been upgrading it with newer parts and this is currently the final iteration (for now at least). I needed a PC powerful enough to handle Photoshop, After Effects, 3D modeling, 3D printing and light gaming without any performance issues. I also wanted to make sure it was a clean aesthetic and nothing too flashy. GPU might be upgraded soon as prices drop, and as much as I love the case I may upgrade it to a mesh front for better airflow in the future.$1,559.98 -

Might get into content creation if I have some time. I play all kinds of stuff. My favorite for a while has been Path of Exile. Any ARPG has a vote in my book. I started with Diablo 2 when I was in high school. I like a lot of RPGs, some JRPGs, LOVE Dark Souls (I'm holding off on Elden Ring at the moment). I haven't got to fully put the rig to the test yet, but it has made most things less stressful; it runs like a dream. I did have to return the mobo once, but Amazon made it painless and effortless.$1,689.89 -
