My consulting business requires some power and my laptop was aging far too rapidly. I also downloaded Baldurs Gate 3 and when it kept crashing that was the final straw, I decided to build my own showcase instead of just building them for other people. With a budget of only $800 I built the most powerful build I could and it takes everything i've thrown at it and then some. I'd like to upgrade the processor as soon as possible and potentially take advantage of DDR5 rather than the current DDR4$892.92 -

Instead of spending around $1000 on a new laptop, I thought I would build a PC for around the same price instead. Right now, I only have a couple games installed, which are Prey and Need for Speed Unbound. Prey is a well optimized game, but it runs on dx11, and arc was known for having issues with non dx12 titles when it came out. I know Intel has gone back and improved drivers for certain dx11 games, but when playing Prey at max settings at 2560x1440p, there would be times where my framerate would drop from 144 fps to around 70 fps. The GPU usage would drop to around 30% To solve this, I ended up using dxvk to make the game run on vulkan. Now it stays at 144 fps all the time, with some shader compilation stutters. Using dxvk in dx11 and dx9 titles to make the game run in vulkan has a good chance of boosting performance with arc cards. To use dxvk, you just need to paste at most two folders into the game's exe directory. There are videos on YouTube that show how to do this. The only downside is that you can't do this in online games that use anti cheat. With need for speed, the game ran well out of the box. Playing at 1440p, I get around 70-85fps at max settings with xess quality. If I disable upscaling, I can reach the same framerate with textures at ultra and the rest of the settings set to a mix of mostly high and some medium. After setting a gpu fan curve, the hottest I've seen the GPU get is 64 Celsius, with vram hovering around 62 Celsius in a superposition benchmark. In terms of the ryzen 7700x, I was able to set a pbo curve of -35 on all cores, and I didn't crash after running prime95 for 20 minutes. I'll have to run core cycler and see if it is truly stable, although I haven't crashed in any games yet. Because of this, it runs extremely cool. At most, I've seen it hit 55 Celsius and pull 75w when gaming. In the prime95 benchmark, it pulled somewhere around 120ish watts and hit a max temp of somewhere around 86 Celsius. According to hwmonitor, the hotspot was also around that same temperature.$964.99 -

I built this as a an office desk PC and wanted to build a ITX PC and wanted to show off my components. The Streamcom DA6 features an open air frame with no covers, which allows me to show off all my components, especially the GPU. Unfortunately the case does now allow me to put very large GPUs in. I purchased the 13600k as it was able to be cooled enough by the Noctua low profile cooler. While I was contemplating on getting a 13700k or 13900k, I was hesitant as those are not able to stay cool without thermal throttling alot by a low profile cooler. Cable management was tedious but I spend quite a bit of time to make sure it was cleanly tucked away.$1,366.86 -

The Inspiration: This is a build based on a wonderful car that I'd like to, and will.. get my hands on.. the Audi RS5 Sportback! I became really excited to model my build after this special car, shortly after the inspiration to merge the RS5's sporty looks with a powerful gaming computer came to me. This was my 3rd build, although the former(s) were built over 10 years ago. I am so happy to get back into building again, and was so proud to build something that could also match the performance of its vehicle counterpart too! As you can see from my list, I went with an Intel i9-9900K (OC 5gz @ 1.29V), to go with an EVGA RTX 2080Ti XC Ultra, and a 32Gb DDR4 ram kit from Corsair. More Details: The choice for the mobo was easy, since MSI is well known for adding carbon fiber accents to their product line.. which happened to match the interior and exterior styling of the high-end performance vehicle my rig is modeled after. In fact, one of my most favorite ideas for this build was to apply some carbon fiber wrap around the cable management bar (Thanks NZXT!), which matches the absolutely stunning inlays from the RS5 interior (go check it out on the Audi website if you'd like). The sporty RS5 logo/emblem was definitely my other favorite feature, which I felt added an extra level of aggressiveness to the interior of the machine. Also, Audi is known for their racing geckos, which represent the stability of Audi's Quattro AWD system (aaand also hopefully represents the stability of my overclock!), which I thought was a nice touch to the build as well. As you can imagine, this rig performs like a dream, and crushes mostly everything at max settings (including Minesweeper for those wondering). All in all, I am really happy with how it turned out, and I hope it inspires other motivated builders and DIY'ers in this PC Gaming community. Gaming is here to stay folks, and is exploding in popularity. Who am I kidding?! I want to build another! AND ANOTHER! Ahhh!! Can anyone else relate? lol.$2,008.96 -
