I will start by saying that Microcenter is 100% responsible for making me cave and go full-upgrade to the new AM5 platform. I was holding off because not only would Ryzen 7000 generation cpu's require me to buy a new motherboard, but i would have to buy a new ddr5 ram kit as well. Enter Microcenter. I was spending time browsing my local store (quite dangerous for the wallet, in retrospect) and I saw something I couldn't pass up. Namely, buying a new 7700x cpu would come with a 32gb ddr5 ram kit completely free. Sold. Now one thing I did learn through this process is that once I made the purchase and got the new 7700x cpu box in my hands, it became clear that I had overlooked something. Specifically, the 7700x box is obviously far too small and light to contain a stock air cooler, which I had always used in the past with AMD. This took me down a trail of research that ultimately has me trying out my first liquid cooling AIO unit. I am only doing light gaming right now (hence the 3060 Ti), and spend most of it still playing Final Fantasy XIV. But I might upgrade later if I get back into more serious demanding pc games. I think I'm set with this motherboard, ram, and cpu for a while though!$1,727.95 -

I built this to serve as sort of a hybrid gaming and video production rig. The build isn't meant to be a beast at either purpose. It's more meant to be able to handle both pretty well. On this PC, I enjoy playing Cities: Skylines, Battlefield, Stranded Deep, Arma, Stardew Valley, and of course Minecraft Java. As you can tell, not the most demanding games for the most part but I enjoy getting to max out the graphics since I've never had a computer before that could do so. the RTX 3060 Ti handles it as well as I could want at 1440p especially since my monitor only goes up to 60hz. I frequently find myself working on projects that require video editing, photo editing, or the use of a DAW. To cater to these needs, aside from installing a decent GPU I mainly targeted the CPU choice. When I was on the fence between getting a Ryzen 5600x and 5800x, this along with a deal Micro Center was offering at the time led me to choose the 5800x. The 5800x is performing well so far on a dual fan cooler. I might switch the cooler out for an AIO in the future but we'll see how things go. A couple less relevant choices are the motherboard and RAM. I didn't have a choice on the motherboard since it was bundled with the GPU but luckily it ended up being a decent Vision D-P even though I don't see myself utilizing the Thunderbolt. The RAM isn't too fancy. Just two 16gb sticks of non-RGB Ballistix. There isn't much in terms of lighting. The only thing that lights up is the GPU and even that faces down. The parts have a nice look to them by themselves so I don't have a lot of desire to add LEDs. When I do add lighting I'll probably start with some basic cool white accent lights. A weakness I plan to address soon is that I only have the stock case fans in the Meshify C. They do the trick and temperatures are great so far, but I would like to let the case breath a bit more and upgrade to quieter fans in the process. Also plan to add a GPU support in the near future.$1,698.92 -

I knew that I was going to put together a new rig to replace my wife's struggling 4th gen i5 gaming system, but things really kicked into high gear when Micro Center offered their buy a CPU get a motherboard deal at the end of the summer 2022. Used primarily for WoW and Toon Town, she is now able to "multibox" without the system breaking a sweat, while the older tower would regularly crash when trying to run more than one instance of a title.$1,671.95 -
