I recently completed this build I started during the holidays, upgrading from an old 4790k system. Micro Center had some great deals on 12th gen Intel CPU bundles, so I thought it was a good time. I bought the RTX 3080 used, but kind of wish I got a new 6800XT from Micro Center instead for around the same price. My main monitor is a 1440p/165hz Acer Predator with only G-Sync which is why I went with Nvidia. I still plan on adding some case fans to my build in the future, but temps are pretty good right now with the Lancool 216 case and Thermalright CPU cooler. Total cost of the build so far is about $1200.$1,221.93 -

I use it for work mostly and play chivalry 2, rust and other games when I have time. I tried to keep everything gigabyte but it was difficult with supply issues and LHR cards which drove me to the founders edition 3080. When I built it I used a 1080 from a prebuilt until prices came down and DDR5 ram was also unattainably expensive. Overall I am very happy I don’t overclock and plan to have the computer for a very long time. I may consider the new Radeon cards if they stomp out the 4080 as I have been reading. Overall I am quite pleased and shocked that I was able to put everything together, it took a lot of research but I have learned so much and feel I can fix anything if anything messes up. The cord management in the back is still all over the place, at some point I will take the time to make it all look pretty but that's the greatest thing, having all the room in the back without any larger drives to just have all the cords for the rgb stuff.$2,674.89 -

I built this computer originally for gaming and streaming, but I never got too into the streaming thing so it's mainly a gaming rig. I mostly play Doom Eternal, Forza Horizon 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Assassin's Creed (specifically Valhalla), and Warzone. In terms of upgrades, the biggest (and most expensive) one I'm looking to do is custom water-cooling. On the more affordable side of upgrades though, I think some RGB ram would top things off nicely. There have been a few upgrades to this system already; from PSU, to case, to GPU. Originally, the case was a Corsair Crystal Series 570X, the original PSU size was about 650W, and the original GPU was an EVGA 1050ti. After the 1050ti I went with the ASUS TUF RX6800XT, but I had to RMA the card two different times for the same exact issues, and nvidia cards were finally becoming affordable and available so I finally have a 3080!$2,404.88 -

The only difficulty I had was with the twin 8pin GPU connector from Lian Li because the older V2 version makes it difficult to plug the card in. I also overlooked the fact that the strimmer cable needed an extra extension so I could connect it to the motherboard or the lian li rgb hub, however attaching it to SATA now works just well for me because it gives you a remote to adjust the default light setting. Idle and load temperatures are excellent.$2,203.91 -

But I suppose it depends on how you look at it. What would need to be upgraded or changed for the computer to qualify as a "new build"? From version 1 to version 2, I switched the CPU and GPU's hardline watercooling loops from AIO to custom, and I also added extra RAM. After that, I replaced the motherboard, casing, and air cooler on the GPU. I then created a bespoke hardline loop for the new CPU.$2,484.93 -
