The purpose of this build is to optimize performance for VR gaming such as having excess VRAM for Oculus Link and Virtual Desktop Streaming for wireless PC VR gaming. I have intentionally cheaped out on all other components, so upgrade each component as best fits your needs. You can build an amazing VR gaming PC for under $1K, but you have to make sacrifices along the way.$975.95 -

I use it for school and gaming. I play Fortnite at around 200 fps on medium settings and Valorant at around 300-500 fps on medium-high settings. I will probably be upgrading the gpu later on and adding some rgb but for now, I love the build. Also the power supply is a 600w not 500w but it isn't on the list.$543.92 -

However, as we all naturally do, I wanted to upgrade it the more I go. I recently purchased the Radeon 6650xt (upgrading from a 1060) so I could run newer games at higher resolutions while getting stable frames. I run games like COD, Smite, Fortnite, etc. Mainly got the graphics card to run Hogwarts though. :) I started from a budget case, Montech X1, to the Lian Li O11 Air Mini (amazing case), and now the Thermaltake P3. I also upgraded a few other things like my PSU (from 500w to 750w), RAM (from 3200 to 3600), and the stock cooler to an UpHere one (it actually cools pretty decently, it allowed me to overclock to 4.15 from 3.6). I am planning on upgrading the CPU and Motherboard.$894.88 -

It started showing its age, particularly in Modern Warfare and on a couple emulators that really benefited from more threads/better IPC. Despite reaching 60 frames on most titles, the stutters were absolutely abysmal and it was clear the old i5 was bottle-necking my RX 580. I'm not a hardcore gamer so apart from emulators, the most intensive games that I currently have are Black Desert Online, Modern Warfare, Borderlands 3, and GTA V but I'm positive I'd be able to run the newer AAA games like Battlefield 2042 at an acceptable and consistent enough frame-rate. I built this around Christmastime 2020. I was lucky enough to be chosen for Honey's promotion at that time so I was able to get $250 from them. The motherboard was on sale, the CPU and case was not. But since I had the other parts for the build already from my old system, I think the $250 was just enough to get all three. I *could've* gone for a 6 core but I ended up deciding with a Ryzen 3 3100 as a stopgap solution. Plus any modern processor from the last 3-4 years is an upgrade to the i5-4570. Why AMD? I honestly wanted to go Intel since their six cores at the time went for $140-160. The reason why I didn't was because there were no Intel motherboards that had memory overclocking at the time. So I went with AMD just because I thought it would be better value, at least motherboard wise. So if you think about it, I only really paid for the parts OTHER than the mobo, case, and CPU. Most of which I got on sale/at a reduced price.$605.92 -

Some of the games the games I play are Call of Duty and Forza which the Gigabyte RX 5500 XT handled perfectly during casual gaming at 1080p. For school, I have many programs running which is why the extra ram was very helpful. Some things I plan on doing in the future are switching graphics cards when the Radeon graphic cards come out or the new 3000 series from NVIDIA come out and adding a new B550 motherboard later down the line.$683.86
