  Current Gen GPU prices are crazy right now. There is no way I would spend 20% or even 50% markup for it. Got a used 7800xt... Current Gen GPU prices are crazy right now. There is no way I would spend 20% or even 50% markup for it. Got a used 7800xt from a friend for $200. He upgraded to RTX 5080, so he doesn't need it anymore. 7800 xt has 16gb vram. It should last me a couple of years. Hopefully, the shortage will get better by then. Other than that little fuss, I am pretty happy with this build.

  this gaming build was several months in the making and is ultimately a record of human adaptability in the face of repeated... this gaming build was several months in the making and is ultimately a record of human adaptability in the face of repeated failure and frustration. for me, my initial motivation was to buy an nvidia 5080 or 5090 graphics card at launch. spectacular fail. then, i looked into the amd 9000 series cards. even if i got past my reservations about amd's graphics driver support, i couldn't buy one of those cards today if i wanted to. ultimately i decided the 20gb-24gb range of vram was not going to be realistic for me. what settled on was the 16gb. so far i have no problems playing the new game avowed on game pass at 4k and ultra settings.

I decided to go all out with the AMD setup with their cpu and gpu, which has proved worthwhile as my gpu temp isn't hitting above 60 even in games like the new space marine 2. My cpu temps are a bit higher as I had to cheap out on the cooler, however never getting above 80c under load and usually at around 75c.

The AM5 cpu platform is excellent for future proofing and intel recent generation cpus are subpar quality, so there is no choice but amd anyway. The graphics card is a work of art, very nice looking and performs beautifully under load.
