I have been using a high end, at the time, as my daily driver for the last 5 years. I wanted to make a new build for games like Overwatch, emulators, some VR gaming, and the occasional editing on Adobe apps. I should've probably gotten a 1000w PSU at Platinum grade but I don't see myself overclocking my new build and didn't want to spend anymore.$1,941.92 -

Mostly just play Apex Legends but will likely play Diablo 4 with friends down the line. This is my 2nd build. My first PC I built was about 7 years ago and it was just not handling Apex well and I wanted a little project to do. The guys at Micro Center are so insanely helpful!$2,109.94 -

Built a new gaming/encoding/media PC rig to replace my aging 8700k/GTX 1660 rig. Went AMD this time - AMD R9 7900X CPU, AMD RX 6950 TX GPU, 64 GB DDR5 6000 Ram, 3 2TB PCI4 4x4 M2 SSD's (OS and APPS, Games, and encoding), ASUS X670-P PRIME WIFI AMD AM5 ATX Motherboard. 2 Additional PCIE USB 3.2 cards (I need LOTS of USB ports for peripherals and the 8 USB3 media storage drives - 125TB total and growing), 750w full modular PS, be quiet SHADOW ROCK TF CPU Cooler, low noise SHADOW ROCK case fans. Stuffed it all in a Silverstone Media PC case. Small compromises were made. Could not fit a liquid cooler so had to go with high efficiency air cooler (be quiet SHADOW ROCK TF) and extra low noise SHADOW ROCK case fans. Originally picked up an RX 7900 TX GPU but it too would not fit the case, so had to fall back to the RX 6950 TX Reference model (2" shorter). Everything fits pretty tight but the Silverstone case is really shitty for cable management, but it all worked out.$1,810.92 -

I recently started a YouTube channel related to PC tech and finally realized I needed to upgrade my GPU (had a 6900xt) to have more consistency and performance within Davinci Resolve. Also, the grey screen crash that AMD has when using multiple monitor setups was infuriating and I had enough. The high power draw in multiple monitor setups as well as high temps (over 90 hotspot in demanding games) made me go Green as well. For gaming, I do dabble around in AAA titles, but I’m a huge Total War fan (almost 2k hours across Warhammer games) so I do need a good gpu. Why the 4080 instead of the 4090? At the end of the day, it’s a minimum 400 dollars cheaper. I game at 1440p and the increase performance for a 4090 to a 4080 is not worth the price to performance difference. Also I wanted an asus tuf card as it’s the most aesthetically pleasing to me, as well as staying within the Asus ecosystem. The insane power efficiency of the 4080 is great too. Most personally though, I just personally don’t like being on the bleeding edge of tech. It’s a money trap and you can never truly be “top end” for long. Probably why I’m satisfied with Amd gpus for so long.$4,082.93 -

Find everything on sale and don’t go overboard. Find a good CPU and MOB combo deal and save some money. I used the i7-12700 and the Z690-plus wifi DDR5. Great combo. Graphics cards are harder because they are overpriced. I used the AMD Rx 6950 XT because the bang for the buck factor. It was on sale and an Nvidea equivalent would have cost hundreds more. It is a beast too. I shopped Micro Center sales. The case is very important and Fractal design is the best. SuperNova power supply is reliable. Good memory vs cheap…don’t cheap out on this! Trident Z5 is the best. Have fun and watch YouTube how to videos.$2,217.41 -

Jupyter was built for the best 2K gaming (and hopefully performance per dollar) and a healthy sprinkling of software development. Built it for my girlfriend who primarily plays Valorant but soon I think I can convert her to Warzone 2. And her day job is as a software developer, so have the extra RAM and compute means she can effective halve her deployment times. The next upgrade would definitely be a better monitor, with the 6950 XT able to sustain 120 Hz at even the highest settings in AAA games, her current 75 Hz monitor falls far behind. And after that a 2 TB HDD for archival storage. In hindsight, I would have connected the fans directly to the motherboard to allow better control and possible opted for an ASUS motherboard for its cleaner BIOS and software support. Nonetheless, its a powerful build and a massive upgrade from her old machine. She's good for another 3 years at the very least!$1,993.90 -
