Celebrating National Video Games Day: What We’re Playing
Unsurprisingly, Micro Center is home to a lot of gamers. So, on this National Video Games Day, I (editor Sean) asked our team what they’re currently playing, and answers have run the gamut. Who’s playing the Silksong, who’s playing League of Legends, and who’s playing Nintendogs? Read on to find out.

Like books, I usually keep a few different games going at the same time. I'm currently playing mostly on a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i (Core Ultra 9/5080) laptop, plus other systems as I test them. I just got back into Avowed, the Obsidian-developed RPG with heavy Skyrim vibes; but I'm swapping back-and-forth with Expedition 33. And, of course, I periodically dip back into Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, but with no real intention of reaching the end, mostly sightseeing. My most unpopular gaming opinion: Star Wars: Outlaws, which I also jumped back into recently, is actually pretty great if you treat it as a lightweight planet-hopping GTA-a-like.

I'm very much a writing-over-action kind of guy, but why not have both? That's why I'm currently playing God of War: Ragnarök. With incredible writing, beautiful set pieces, and more enemies than you can shake a blade of chaos at, it's everything I look for in a video game. I'm enjoying it so much that I've even started to 3D print the Leviathan Axe!

After playing a lot of Fallout: New Vegas for an upcoming project, I’ve dipped back into the Capital Wasteland. Fallout 3 has held up far better than I remembered, and blasting through super mutants in DC is just as fun as it’s ever been. I’m also spending time with Helldivers 2, spreading freedom, democracy, and dropping bombs on my friends.

While I might have an ultra-powerful PC with some of the latest AMD hardware, I’m always falling back into the easy-to-run classics that are Old-School RuneScape and League of Legends. There’s a reason they’ve stuck around for so long, and that addictive loop is just too hard to break. However, I can occasionally be found dipping back into the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster.
Kat D., Senior Project Manager
I've been playing Nintendogs on our Nintendo DS Lite. I picked it up in a LGS a few weeks ago and I'm now the proud adopted dogmom of two German Shepards and a Yorkie from an abandoned account started in 2003 or 2004. It's been a cozy and nostalgic experience reviving these pups.

I stumbled on a Dead by Daylight clone on Roblox the other day and quickly realized that I needed to pick up the base game. I’ve spent the past week slowly improving my gens, getting better at loop backs, and, hopefully, escaping more often than not.

When you love both From Soft and Metroid games, Silksong is an easy pickup. I enjoyed Hollow Knight quite a bit, but I never fell into the Skong-sanity that was the multi-year wait. Now that I finally have my hands on the game, however, I’m all in. The combat borrows more from the Playstation-trapped Bloodborne than Dark Souls and the fast-paced platforming tickles the speedrunning parts of my brain.
Also playing: Rift of the Necrodancer, Ultrakill

I'm a Call of Duty guy through and through, so obviously I'm looking forward to the upcoming Black Ops 7 release in November (small brag: I recently won a subscriber tournament champion with a $10k prize pool in the current title, Black Ops 6, so this year was good to me). FPS games are my usual go-to especially in competitive settings, so I often find myself in Valorant and Halo as well. I'd also be doing a dishonor to myself if I didn't mention my 1000+ hours on MLB the Show 25, a game that released just this March; it's just that good.
National Video Games day rolls around every year on September 12th, but we’re always ready to game at Micro Center, with a massive selection of computer parts and game consoles, from the Nintendo Switch 2 to the Playstation 5. You’ll have to check your own LGS for a 2006 DS Lite, however.
