Community Article Dell keyboard not working — Micro Center Computers Computer Parts Custom PC Builder DIY/ Maker {$smarty.capture.menu} Activity Categories Discussions Computers Computer Parts Custom PC Builder DIY/ Maker Home › General Discussion Dell keyboard not working Aprid25 ✭ July 2020 in General Discussion I am having an issue on a refurbished Dell Latitude that I purchased two months ago. The whole keyboard that is not working. The mouse pad and cursor do work. I have tried to find a setting that may be causing the issue but have had no luck. Any thoughts on any settings to look through? I'm hoping this will not be a replacement issue. I am able to connect a wireless keyboard and everything functions correctly. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTonyV admin July 2020 edited July 2020 The first thing I would try is reinstalling the keyboard drivers. Right click on your Start Button then go to Device Manager.  In Device Manager find the keyboard section and open the drop-down menu. Right-click any keyboards listed and select "uninstall device." When they're all gone, restart the computer and see if your keyboard is working again.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Categories 8K All Categories 1.2K The Blog 63 What's Trending 15 Past News and Updates 185 How to & Technical Guides 13 Computer Hardware 119 Software 3 Home Office 6 Networking 2 Audio/Visual 2 Home Automation 20 3D Printers 20 Maker 32 PC Build Guides 120 Reviews & Buying Guides 55 Build Showcase 27 Contests 48 Past Contests 1.6K The Community 1.9K General Discussion 105 New Members 247 Consumer Tech 67 Prebuilt PCs and Laptops 100 Software 8 Audio/Visual 27 Networking & Security 1 Home Automation 3 Digital Photography 3 Content Creators 22 Hobby Boards & Projects 33 3D Printing 69 Retro Arcade/Gaming 92 All Other Tech 1.6K Store Information and Policy 78 Off Topic 16 Community Ideas & Feedback 120 Your Completed Builds 2.9K Build-Your-Own PC 1.9K Help Choosing Parts 251 Graphics Cards 200 CPUs, Memory, and Motherboards 73 Cases and Power Supplies 23 Air and Liquid Cooling 26 Monitors and Displays 34 Peripherals 19 All Other Parts 28 Featured Categories We love seeing what our customers build Submit photos and a description of your PC to our build showcase Submit Now Looking for a little inspiration? Worked fine. Last night when I tried to boot up, it either stays on the dell home screen or gives preparing for auto repair message. Neither goes away.  Suggestions to try? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTonyV admin May 2020 Hello @pandora123! Welcome to the Community.  Is the battery removable from the bottom of the computer? If you can remove the battery without having to actually open up the  laptop, I would try removing the battery, unplugging the charger then holding down the power button for 30 seconds. After that reattach the battery and try turning it back on and see if anything changes.  If you can do that, try the same process just without removing the battery, and see if it will make it through automatic repair. If it makes it through automatic repair and gives you any recovery options, try going navigating through some like a system restore and see if that helps at all.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Pandora123 ✭ May 2020 Cant remove battery without opening case.  I tried turning off, waiting 30 sec and trying to turn on three times.  Still sticks either on dell or auto repair screen. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TSMikeW admin May 2020 The indicators from what the computer sounds like it's doing. Is that it's trying to access your hard drive and either hangs trying to access it, or accesses it then hangs trying to enter recovery mode. When you have the Dell screen and you said it doesn't go away. Does it give you the loading icon with the spinning dots, or does it just sit on the Dell screen? Also, do you a Windows 10 flash drive to boot to? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Pandora123 ✭ May 2020 It spins and gives the message preparing auto repair but never goes further. I was able to get to the diagnostics screen and run a hardware check, came up no issues detected. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TSKyleH admin May 2020 Thank you for that update @Pandora123, since it is trying to get to the recovery environment we may be looking at windows corruption. Do you have a windows 10 flash drive? if not, you can use the media creation tool to create one. This will provide aid in performing a clean install of windows which would erase everything stored on the computer. I downloaded the specs for my laptop, nothing with the word "fan" in it. I called their support, person disconnected the call. I searched their tech support--no part number for a fan. The laptop is out of warranty by a couple weeks and Dell refuses to replace it. I hate taking apart laptops and only want to do it once--when I actually replace the fan. Anyone know how to find out the part number? I want to get the correct fan. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TSTonyV admin July 2020 When you searched for Dell's part number, did you go to their website and try looking it up by the service tag? https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/partsforyourdell/index?~ck=mn I'd start there, if you haven't.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Ladybugf8 ✭ July 2020 That was the first thing I did. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TSTonyV admin July 2020 If Dell won't provide the part information, I'm not sure there's a better way to figure out what fan is in a system than just Googling it, or opening up the computer and checking the part number on the unit itself. Our service desk could verify the correct parts with Dell if you were to bring it in to us for repair, but it sounds like you want to do it yourself.  I tried to find some information online but "Inspiron 3500" doesn't appear to be a model I can find information on, I found information for Latitude 3500 or Vostro 3500 instead. Are you sure this is an Inspiron model? Let me start with, I'm not that technical savvy. I have been working with a dual monitor setup and someone recently turned me on to the 49 inch Ultra Wide Monitors. My COVID related home setup is actually two (2) Vizio TV's which work fine. I am looking for the best value monitor for working pretty much exclusively, not gaming. It appears the Dell Ultra Sharp and the Samsung Odyssey are two of the best options, however also the most expensive. I'm at a point of impatience, so am looking to get something in place like today. I can get the Dell Ultra Sharp through my companies account for a very reasonable cost, however have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for arrival. One Micro Center has an open box deal on a Dell Ultra Sharp while the closer Micro Center has other models in stock that I think would be less costly and still give me the desired result. Like the AOC AG493UCX or the ASUS XG49VQ . I don't think I want to settle for a 43 inch curved monitor, however I am a bit intrigued by the price of the 43 In non-curved LED Monitors such as the Acer DM431K. at less than half the price of some of these others I have been curious if it is any good. Is the Open Box Model of the Dell Ultra Sharp worth the extra $100 - $300, plus an additional 1.50 hours in the car? The one thing I have figured out is ideally the monitor will have good software built in for managing the screens with multiple program windows open... and not many monitors do. There is also the case of the KVM switch which is not a critical component for me, however would be nice, just in case, if it happened to have one. but it is not a determining factor. I will be hooking the monitor up to my laptop: HP Spectre X360, if that is relevant. Thank you in advance for your help 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments LandShark admin February 2021 Hello @CClark63 Welcome to the community! I was able to find a 49" a bit cheaper than the two you mentioned. The ASUS XG49VQ will offer you the 49" display you're looking for as well as the software paired with it to allow for easy multiscreen use. It offers a 3840 x 1080 resolution Whether or not this is worth the 1.5 hour trip in your car is something only you can decide. However, if you do decide to make the trip I would strongly recommend that you reserve the item before heading to the store. I'd make sure that you wait until you receive the email confirming that your reservation has been set aside for you! This monitor also allows you to split the monitor in half with two different inputs. If you're looking for a higher resolution option, the AOC AG493UCX does offer a 5120 x 1440 resolution. Here's our full selection of ultrawide monitors. If you have any other questions, please do let me know! I'd be happy to help! 1 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook CClark63 ✭ February 2021 Thank You so much for the quick reply @LandShark I recall reading somewhere that the higher resolution would be better, especially when using it for "work" such as excel worksheets. does that sound correct? Do you have any first hand knowledge of working with any of these or other 49 inch monitors? To confirm, you agree that these will work (essentially) just as well as the Dell UltraSharp monitor? For Open Box Models, do they still operate the same, I imagine yes. In your opinion... if the higher resolution will make a difference which would lead me towards the AOC AG493UCX, is there a good enough value in going to the Dell U4919DW Ultrasharp for $106.00 more? Sorry for the back and forth... I'm just torn between the $800 model versus $1,000 versus $1,300 "on sale" for $1,100 due to open box condition. Again if the resolution will make a noticeable (not even significant) difference, then i think i should bit e the bullet and at least look at the higher end. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook LandShark admin February 2021 Yeah, typically with larger monitors like these ultrawide monitors, a higher resolution allows for more pixels and higher quality screen space. However, it does come at a cost here. More pixels = more money. That being said, 24.5" 1080 monitors are still great quality and I wouldn't have a problem recommending them. Essentially these 49" monitors are two 24.5" monitors without a bezel in the middle. You will see a noticeable improvement in clarity when you move from 1080p to 1440p. Yes, these would work much in the same way that the Dell monitor would. I'm not as familiar with the AOC monitor, and it may not have the software features that the ASUS does but Windows 10 does allow you to snap individual windows to specific sides of the screen natively. I believe you're referring to the Dell U4919DW Open box in our Rockville store. If so, it looks like that is labeled as INCOMPLETE: DISPLAY UNIT, meaning that it was on display for a time in our store. It would only come with the power cable and the monitor. Since it was a display unit, you would be able to review it before purchase. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, $1000 monitor is a fair investment. So I totally understand wanting to be sure about something before you make that purchase. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook CClark63 ✭ February 2021 Thank You @LandShark . I may regret no spending the extra money, for the Dell, but I am going to get the AOC Monitor. I'm hopeful that if its not what I expect it can be returned. is that correct? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook LandShark admin February 2021 edited February 2021 You're quite welcome! I can't imagine you'll have buyer's remorse here, AOC monitor does have a 4-year manufacturer warranty with it. Most monitors only come with a 3-year warranty. To me, this says that AOC believes their products will last! I can't imagine you'll regret your purchase! If, for some reason you do wish to return your new monitor or If you're unhappy with the AOC you're welcome to return it. Monitors do have a 30 day return period. The GPU doesn't need to be super expensive. Because all I do with this machine is to live stream to YouTube a single 30-minute meditation music video that plays over and over. I currently have a Dell Optiplex 990 SFF. But this machine keeps failing as the hardware is not good enough. So, anyways. Does anyone know what compatible GPU I can purchase for this computer in the link so that it's not super expensive but also is sufficient enough for video encoding so that my Live Stream on YouTube wouldn't get disconnected all of a sudden for encoder issues? Also, do I need to update bios or anything else if I want to put in a GPU inside a system? I am just asking in general. Because I have never done this before. The Dell Inspiron wasn't designed to be a Gaming PC obviously as to why you want to convert it. You'll basically will have to rebuild the Dell System and with installation from us, including parts; you're looking at $1100-$1300 to rebuilt that Dell. Its not worth rebuilding a pc. Its better to just invest in a pre-built system that already has the components for gaming. What Microcenter store are you near and we can give you a link to look at some systems. They may run you anywhere from $790 to $1000 for a prebuilt pc. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Pacman85 ✭ March 2021 I am in South Carolina. Daniel_01 ✭ December 2020 edited June 2021 in Peripherals I've narrowed my choice down to the Dell S2721dgf, The odyssey G7, and the Asus Tuf VG27aql1a. What would be the best to go with??? I keep going back forth. I have also heard mixed things about the G7, and hardly anything about the VG27aql1a. Any help would be great! 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments TS_EmileC admin December 2020 Hey Daniel_01! Ideally, they are all great choices. I've heard really good things regarding the Asus Tuf monitor. I actually bought it for a family member for Christmas this year for their PS5! With the support of both G-Sync and FreeSync, any AMD or Nvidia GPU would perform outstanding. The Samsung G7 has had it's issues with the backlight flickering when having the VRR enabled since it's release and for the cost the HDR was less than expected so I wouldn't go for the G7 just yet. If it were me, I would choose between the Dell and Asus model as they are almost identical in terms of price (You could get two for the price of one g7)  and performance. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook LandShark admin December 2020 @Daniel_01 I'd agree with @TS_EmileC and his recommendations. I currently own the ASUS VG27AQ 27" WQHD 165Hz and Dell S2716DG 27" WQHD 144Hz which are very similar to the models you've listed. I'd recommend the ASUS over the dell if you're system can actually put out above 144 FPS. ELMB Sync really makes a difference! Otherwise, they are very similar in performance and it will come down to personal preference as they are two different panels and will reproduce colors slightly differently. Hope this helps! TN panels have very low response times which makes them good for competitive gaming environments. IPS panels are known for having better color accuracy, contrast ratio and viewing angles compared to TN panels, i.e. "better picture quality." Modern IPS panels are now pretty close to their TN counterparts in terms of response times, but they do typically still fall just a little bit behind. I've used the S2719DGF and it was a good monitor, and I'm currently using an LG27GL850 which is an IPS monitor, and I think you'll be happy regardless of which one you choose. That Acer and Dell both advertise a 1ms response time and you shouldn't notice any difference between the two, but this particular Dell monitor is pretty good in terms of color accuracy for a TN panel. So between these two it's really a question of: do you want to spend the extra money on a monitor with slightly better color accuracy? I think you'd be happy either way. I run an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X with a RTX 2070 Mini. I use my PC for general productivity work and gaming. The monitor I currently have is the HP - 27f 27" IPS LED FHD FreeSync 75hz. I wanted to upgrade to a better gaming monitor and I figured with the Black Friday prices, this would be a great time. However, I’m not exactly sure what to get, or what my computer can handle. My main questions are 1440p or 1080p? What screen size is best with either of those that it’s still running at a high refresh rate? I saw Best Buy has the Dell S3220DGF which is 1440p and 32 inches. However, I’ve heard once you hit 32 inches, you might want better than 1440p. Also, will running at 1440p reduce refresh rate to the point that it’s not worth it? Or is my hardware good enough? Or would it be better to stick to 27 inches at 1440p? Another Best Buy option is the Samsung CRG5. It’s 1080p at 27 inches but 240hz refresh rate. Would be PC be able to reach numbers like that? At Microcenter, I've had two recommended to me. Dell S2719DGF 27" WQHD and HP X27i I’ve done a ton of research but found a lot of conflicting information and I wasn’t sure what would work best with what I already have. Thanks. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Comments LandShark admin November 2020 Hey @Capcityff3531 Welcome to the community! Personal recommendation is that if you're choosing a 27in monitor, I'd recommend 1440p. If you can, I'd also go with 144hz. You might not be able to hit 144hz in all games at max settings, but if you can get 100+ fps it's a much more enjoyable experience. The way I see it if you're going to be buying a new display, buy the best that you can within your budget. You might upgrade your PC hardware in the future but monitors typically last a bit longer than PC hardware.  Hope this recommendation helps! 😊 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Capcityff3531 ✭ November 2020 Thanks for the advice.  Any recommendations on a specific monitor?  An employee at Microcenter recommended the HP X27i but I didn't see any in stock.  His selling point was the IPS panel.  I'm open to buying from anywhere.  Didn't want to spend more than $300 if possible. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook LandShark admin November 2020 Which of our locations are you shopping in? The complaints I heard were it not being as good at IPS panel. For the same price, Gigabyte seems better. However, if that’s not the case, I think a brand like Dell or Samsung would be best.  0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TS_JosephF admin November 2020 @Capcityff3531 I would prefer Samsung since I have never had a problem with my Samsung TV and Samsung monitor but that would really be a matter of preference. The monitor you've linked also has a DisplayPort connection! So, they'd work together! Difficult varies by the model but it's typically a pretty quick process and the keyboards on basic Inspiron models are generally cheap. Stop in with the laptop and we can get a keyboard on order. You can use an external USB keyboard in the meantime. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Super20 ✭ June 2020 If I bought it in late March, wouldn't it still be under warranty?  Do I need an appointment? 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook TSTonyV admin June 2020 If it was a new-in-box laptop it come with a 1-year warranty so it'd still be well within that time period.  If it was refurbished, those come with 90-day warranties, so depending on exactly what you mean by late March we'd have to check the exact date.
