I currently found out that WOW Internet is charging me $14/mth to "rent" their modem. The current speed is up to 500 mbps, however, we are upgrading to 1000 mpbs next month when we move. I would like to find a router that will work for us and will handle the speed and work with WOW. I have no idea what I am doing and finding DOCSIS 3.1 vs 24 x 8 info, but I have no idea what it means, nor do I really need a tutorial of what does what. I just need a recommendation for a modem that is under $150. It doesn't need to have the built-in router as we have the home wifi Eero for that. It does need to have 4 ethernet ports so I can hard line connect for work. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Answers Ian admin November 2021 edited November 2021 Greetings. Per WOW's website, they recommend a DOCSIS 3.1 modem for their services if you do not rent from them. It doesn't appear they recommend any other specs besides that, here are the DOCSIS 3.1 modems we sell: https://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.aspx?Ntt=docsis+3.1+modem&Ntk=all&sortby=match&N=4294966729+4294822454+4294820864&myStore=true To check stock directly on the product page of your local Micro Center, select your local Micro Center at the top of the page and you can view their stock. Store stock is updated regularly during business hours online. For further assistance with specific product recommendations, we would suggest to visit the store and work with a store sales consultant at your local Micro Center store. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Categories 8K All Categories 1.2K The Blog 63 What's Trending 15 Past News and Updates 185 How to & Technical Guides 13 Computer Hardware 119 Software 3 Home Office 6 Networking 2 Audio/Visual 2 Home Automation 20 3D Printers 20 Maker 32 PC Build Guides 120 Reviews & Buying Guides 55 Build Showcase 27 Contests 48 Past Contests 1.6K The Community 1.9K General Discussion 105 New Members 248 Consumer Tech 68 Prebuilt PCs and Laptops 100 Software 8 Audio/Visual 27 Networking & Security 1 Home Automation 3 Digital Photography 3 Content Creators 22 Hobby Boards & Projects 33 3D Printing 69 Retro Arcade/Gaming 92 All Other Tech 1.6K Store Information and Policy 78 Off Topic 16 Community Ideas & Feedback 120 Your Completed Builds 2.9K Build-Your-Own PC 1.9K Help Choosing Parts 251 Graphics Cards 200 CPUs, Memory, and Motherboards 73 Cases and Power Supplies 23 Air and Liquid Cooling 26 Monitors and Displays 34 Peripherals 19 All Other Parts 28 Featured Categories We love seeing what our customers build Submit photos and a description of your PC to our build showcase Submit Now Looking for a little inspiration? Dad1980 ✭ November 2020 in Help Choosing Parts Hello all - Thank you in advance for your advice. I built a PC in early 2013 with the main components listed below, and it's just starting to seem sluggish. Main tasks are internet, email, making documents - not gaming or modeling or anything intensive. I don't think it's a software issue as the PC is pretty clean. I have instead been thinking that the network card is outdated and perhaps can't keep up with our 200+ Mbps eero wifi. I have been thinking of replacing the network card, but thought I would post to see if there is anything else suspect here of being outdated in the 7 years that have passed: - SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - AMD A4-5300 Trinity 3.4GHz (3.6GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 65W Dual-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7480D AD5300OKHJBOX - MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 FM2 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C9D-8GAB - Rosewill RNX-N150PCe (RNWD-11011) IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCIe 2.0 Wireless Adapter Up to 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates WPA/WPA2 (AES, 64,128,152-WEP with shared-key authentication) WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) Thanks again for any advice you might have! 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Best Answer sanapri ✭ November 2020 Answer ✓ IMO the CPU could be the cause, 2 cores with no SMT, that's pretty outdated. Another cause might be because of hardware failure. 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook Answers Dad1980 ✭ December 2020 Thank you, sanapri. One reason i had suspected the network card is because my 3-year-old phone shows about 200Mbps in an Ookla speed test right next to the desktop, while the desktop itself shows only about 25Mbps on the same wireless network. Shouldn't the desktop show a higher Mbps, knowing the signal in that area of the house is obviously strong enough for a faster test on the phone. Thanks again! 0 · Share on TwitterShare on Facebook USS_Ustafish White Settlement, TX ✭ December 2020 I agree. The time for the FM2 socket has sadly passed, I'm afraid. If you want to keep it going, the good news is that you can get an Athlon X4 760K on eBay from a US seller for about $20. Since you're using a discrete GPU anyway, there's not much need for the APU. That's the very end of your upgrade path, but it does get you into a quad core.
