Here is my latest log: *********************** Log Started 2020-04-20T01:57:45Z *********************** 01:57:45:****************************** FAHClient ****************************** admin April 20 @JADO have you attempted to manually add them by going to Configure > Slots > Add? You should be able to leave the GPU value at -1. From there, add a slot for each potential GPU connected to the system, then save. They should reappear. If that doesn't work, you may be missing the GPUs.txt file in your [email protected] Client AppData directory. If that file is missing, visit this page, select all, save it into a notepad text file named GPUs.txt and place it in the %AppData%\FAHClient directory (Windows + R to open Run prompt, type that directory in for quick access). GPUs.txt page: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt Hopefully this works, if not, let me know. I'll try to troubleshoot more with you. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Thanks for the help.  I am pretty knowledgeable on this stuff and at this point I am guessing it a Windows issue....but, I have no way to know.  I have tried to add them manually but since FAH sees no GPU's the add disappears as soon as I exit and go back to the settings sheet.  I have also looked at the GPUs.txt file and it is where it is supposed to be  and again everything worked correctly for over 2 weeks.  The cards have two bios's on them. You can select them with a switch.  one was modified for crypto mining the other is stock..  I was using the stock bios and everything worked fine.  I switched to crypto bios (to see if I could improve speed) and everything still worked but it was not stable.  So, I switched back to standard bios which had been working and after the switch back Folding stopped finding the cards.  Again, they show up in device manager and it reports they are working normally.  When it stopped was when I started uninstalling and installing card drivers and FAH in different combinations but have not been able to get them to reconnect.. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 Thanks for helping.  I installed 7.6.9 today and I was able to manually add the GPU's.  Problem seems to be solved for now.  Thanks again. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Interesting that it only started after swapping to and from the VBIOS using the physical toggle switch. When you nuked the GPU drivers, did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? Just wanting to make sure every registry entry tied to those drivers were removed prior to reinstallation. Can you provide the name of the exact model of RX 580 you're using? I'll see if I have any lying around that I can try to replicate the issue with.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Actually, I don't think the VBIOS had anything to do with it.  I think it related to the latest FAH updates.. but again I am not sure.  I did use DDU (full discosure..I did not run it in Safe Mode) then I used Regedit and deleted all remnants of FAH I could find.  Still don't know why it would not find the cards after that  but after installing 7.6.9 today I was able to find and add them manually.  With 6 RX580s and a i5 9600K 6 core processor should I have any problems running all 6 cards?  Can I also safely use some of 6 cpu cores in addition to the GPU's?  Adding cards manually, FAH also added my Intel 630 motherboard graphics  GPU for processing.  I removed it because I figured that would just cause problems.  I guess what I am asking is with the hardware I have what do thin the optimal folding configuration for folding should be here?  Thanks  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Glad to hear the GPU's are recognized now. As for the hardware configuration, [email protected] recommends leaving one processing core per GPU. Since your 9600k has exactly 6 cores, I wouldn't recommend folding on the CPU at all as it will be of very little gain and may be detrimental to your GPU's scores, which are weighted far more heavily in terms of value. I don't see any issue running the Intel iGPU as it simply uses 2MB of cache and some spare system memory, so it shouldn't impact your stability at all. It might not score all that well, but it shouldn't hurt anything either.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 My thoughts exactly.  Thank you for confirming.  Appreciate the help. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 My pleasure. The website has dropped down to only 1 sku and I was under the impression the website would update with amounts for any restock.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Ichthus ✭ September 24 GN review dropped on the 3090. Surprise surprise, over double the price for ~10-15% gains in gaming performance at most, and of course the 8K gaming claim being misleading.  Even at 4K max settings that extra VRAM was not making a difference at all. The uplift was because of the increase in the other specs on the card. I know it's the newest and best and shiniest but unless you're doing actual work that can take advantage of all that VRAM, it's just not worth it. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter gsmithfcd ✭ September 24 When will the 3080's be reservable online for in-store pickup? @TSTonyV 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter LandShark admin September 24 @gsmithfcd We're not sure exactly when we'll be able to offer reservations for the 3000 series cards. We're doing our best to get more inventory as quickly as possible, but right now, we don't have the inventory to be able to offer the reservations. From my understanding, once stock levels start to normalize, we'll be able to offer that option again. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin September 24 EvanH said: Some stores handing out vouchers and others not. Pretty dope. Well prepared i see. Who could have expected this? Oh wait the same thing happened last week? shocker. People amaze me. Cant just get a blanket policy can we? EvanH said: Sawyers02 said: How is it Microcenters fault that they only received certain cards.  Honestly if I was a higher up there I would let the store manager handle the launch that is happening at His/Her store.  Everyone seems to be angry with the store and company but honestly they are doing the best they can with the circumstances.  Give them some slack.  Want to be mad at someone?  Be mad a NVIDIA.  Also look at the fact that you are the ones standing in line for a card that your mad at the manufacture for not making enough and are still willing to buy it... I stood in line for the 3080 and got a card at MSRP so I do feel like I can comment on the topic. Mostly upset with Nvidia for forcing a release when them or AIB's were not ready to have decent semi fair amount of stock. But hearing some people get a voucher and then get to go sleep in their car and still get a card while others sit in a chair or on cement rain or shine does not sit well with me. There should be a set equal and fair policy. Why some people get treated better at this microcenter than at another one? I am not mad... i am getting a 3090 in the morning. I am sad for the gaming community as i want to share this with more than 20 people in my city. Nvidia has made a toxic scalper happy market and AIB's only releasing their "Budget" cards is not helping one little bit.  This isn't the opinion of Micro Center, merely my own opinion on the subject I get the frustration on this topic in particular, mostly because of the variable experience that is offered, but I don't believe there is a way to satisfy everyone. I believe if an SOP were made to give vouchers for the first X number of people to show up and then give out nothing more, people will feel cheated that they didn't get a voucher when others did, or they'll choose to wait anyways in the hopes that new stock will arrive, regardless of the system put in-place. I personally think leaving the launch procedures up to the various management teams of each store was the best decision given the circumstances. I can tell you that from my location here at the home office, I haven't the slightest clue what each store is dealing with in terms of their customer volumes as well as their local pandemic laws and regulations in-place. I also believe that they know their stores better than anyone and likely have the best judgement on how to handle the surge in customers based on previous product launches. Remember that their has been further complicated by this pandemic and that their #1 priority is making sure everyone shopping in-store is doing so safely. Speaking of the pandemic, the circumstances surrounding this launch is pretty much unprecedented. Not only are the cards themselves in a much higher demand compared to previous generations, but it's in such a high demand in the middle of a global pandemic which is no doubt impacting manufacturing due to accommodating for social distancing and other safety-based factors. Marketing teams, design teams and programmers working from home, not communicating as frequently as they normally would. Shipping & logistic companies working at reduced staffing, coupled with procedures in-place that involve extended periods of self-quarantines to ensure the safety of their employees all throughout the manufacturing and supply chain. I don't believe there will ever be a "fair" policy to give everyone an equal opportunity to get a new RTX 3000 series GPU. We disabled online reservations and made it first come, first serve as we believed that would keep things fair, but there will be those that cannot dedicate time to wait overnight like we've seen here in this thread that will feel cheated despite our original intentions to keep things fair. The simple truth of the matter is the demand for these GPU's are extremely high right now and the supply is extremely low. People will feel cheated regardless of how this is handled until ample supply exists. It's for this reason that I advise people to use this to their advantage to soak in the reviews for the various cards that are launching so they know for a fact which GPU they actually want when the supply chain is stable. I won't ask anyone to be any more patient than they've already been, and believe me, we appreciate everyone working with us as we adapt to this entire launch situation. The important thing to remember is that we all want the same thing. We all want to see each other get the GPU that they've been waiting for and are doing everything we can to assist in that endeavor. Some of you have been going above and beyond to report what you are seeing at your various locations and that speaks volumes to our little community as a whole. As cheesy as it sounds every time I say it, thank you everyone for continuing to help each other out. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter AntzC ✭ September 24 Juanandonly said: AntzC said: I actually got a 3090 online couldn't believe when my credit card notification rang. I believe I read something about Tustin getting more 3080s yesterday, which may mean that they already received that shipment and have already sold out again. @Dragmire I haven't heard anything this morning but I'd recommend visiting the store sometime this week. @Itsjoeyy117 I believe we're supposed to be getting the FE cards later in the year, but I haven't received an official document stating so. Hopefully, that will change soon, but with stock being so limited at the moment, I can't make promises. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter MaxHeadroom ✭ September 25 Anyone have word on the Chicago store? Just got back from a 2 hour round trip to the Dallas MC, only to be greeted by a sign that says “All 3080 cards are sold out”.  If by show up you mean wait for 20+ hours then yes. I managed to barely get a 3090 yesterday (6th out of 7 total cards at the store at open). They posted the signs even before they opened and started calling us in one at a time. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter MaxHeadroom ✭ September 25 @PC_Pilot Same problem here in Chicago. The store has not been very transparent in my communications with them about availability. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSPhillipT admin September 25 Hello @MaxHeadroom and @PC_Pilot It's hard to tell with the stock of our 3080s since as soon as we get stock, they are instantly sold to the people waiting for them.  My best recommendation if you want a 3080 is heading to the store and waiting for shipments to arrive.  As soon as a shipment arrives, it is sold on a first come first serve basis.   0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TheGoodRye ✭ September 25 @PC_Pilot i’ve been to mine (Parkville) twice and they have yet to have any stock since the initial launch. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter OFalk280 ✭ September 25 I stopped by my local store (Westmont) this morning. They were receiving 2 FedEx deliveries as I waited for the doors to open. EVGA boxes, and MSI boxes. Asked an associate if there was a chance he knew or could check what was received and was immediately shut down and not very nicely, without even so much as asking someone what showed up. They were also saying things very inconsistent with what I’ve read on this thread (could have changed, I haven’t been here for like 10 pages) that the best place to check for stock is online. I know in one of the older pages we were told contacting the store would be the best bet, as the online stocking has been very weird with the way skus were being created and added. Not very happy with micro center at the moment...kind of killed the little bit of my enthusiasm I had left about 30 series. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter MaxHeadroom ✭ September 25 @OFalk280 Dude I feel you. Before the release of the 3080 I regularly attempted reaching out my store here in Chicago, asking about policies and procedures for how the 3080 is going to launch. The forums all talked about vouchers and lining up early and such, but the Chicago store refused to give me a clear answer, they wouldn't even say if MC would be releasing the 3080s on launch day. Whatever info I could get was from the forums 'cause the store just refused to communicate with me on anything. They were also telling me inconsistent things with what was said on the forums here. Come launch day I decided to just arrive at 3:30am at MC and wait in line. People were already ahead of me, and that was fine with me. If I didn't walk out with a card that day, I would've been fine with it 'cause I did as much as I could from my part in showing up early. But I waited until the manager showed up, and the due straight up said to everyone that they had already handed out vouchers last night to people who were waiting after the store had closed at 9:00pm and they maybe had only like one or two more cards coming in. So basically I stood in line since 3:30am just to be told they weren't gonna have enough cards because they already gave out vouchers last night. Again, zero communication that was done to me and everyone there. If I had known that I needed to show up the night before just to get a voucher, I would've done that. If I had known all the cards were already accounted for then I would not have wasted my time getting up so early and waiting more than seven hours just to be told no. All in all this launch has been extremely bad experience for me, made worse by the fact that the MC here in Chicago is just refusing to say if and when they'll have cards. Even now, they keep telling me to check the forums and ask my questions here, and they keep telling me they have no idea when they're going to get another shipment of cards. I'm not even asking if they'll have a lot of cards, I'm just asking when. I hope this is not a reflection of how MCs are everywhere 'cause as it is right now I don't really have a good opinion of MC, at least not the one here in Chicago. And it looks like the one in Westmont isn't any different. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter MaxHeadroom ✭ September 25 Oh and the Chicago store tells me the same thing, check online for availability. But I'll tell you right now, I was monitoring the site while I was waiting in line on the 18th. I saw the minute that the 3080s appeared on MC's website, they already appeared as "sold out," and this was before the store was even open and before the cards were supposed to even go on sale online at other retailers. So I don't know what strange stuff is going on with MC's website, but I know for a fact at least the associates at the Chicago store are blatantly brushing people off because they don't want to be bothered about the 3080s. Honestly if they just simply were transparent about the 3080s, instead of acting like it's this top secret product the public doesn't need to know about, I'd be a lot less pissed. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter MaxHeadroom ✭ September 25 17th, not 18th. My bad. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSPhillipT admin September 25 Hello @OFalk280 I apologize for the issues you are having when it comes to getting a 3000 series GPU.  We are advising customers go to the store as stock online is not going to be accurate with the stock the store gets.  As soon as the store gets stock, they are instantly sold to those who were waiting at the store.  We will be following up with our Westmont location regarding what the sales consultant informed you with to prevent further confusion.   In the end, if you want a 3080/3090, your best option is coming to the store to wait, as there are others doing the same as well waiting for the them to come in stock.   0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter «1…39404142434445…56» Go Sign In or Register to comment. If your computer has displayed a blue (or black) screen of death, suddenly rebooted or shut down then this program might help you find the root cause of the problem and a solution.  Whenever a computer suddenly reboots without displaying any notice or blue (or black) screen of death, the first thing that is often thought about is a hardware failure. In reality, on Windows a lot of system crashes are caused by malfunctioning device drivers and kernel modules. In case of a kernel error, many computers do not show a blue or black screen unless they are configured for this. Instead these systems suddenly reboot without any notice.  This program will analyze your crash dumps with the single click of a button. It will tell you what drivers are likely to be responsible for crashing your computer. It will report a conclusion which offers suggestions on how to proceed in any situation while the analysis report will display internet links which will help you further troubleshoot any detected problems.  To obtain technical support visit www.resplendence.com/support Click here to check if you have the latest version or if an update is available.  Just click the Analyze button for a comprehensible report ... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Home Edition Notice -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This version of WhoCrashed is free for use at home only. Include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions on the web by users who have been experiencing similar problems. Read the topic general suggestions for troubleshooting system crashes for more information.  Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSMikeW admin August 2 Greetings, System is unstable, and it's likely due to the RAM. As far as we are aware the manager will arrive sometime between 6 and 7am. They will hand out vouchers to the line so that you don't have to stay until they open like the other releases. I believe most stores have it be until 3pm when you can redeem but I haven't been here for a release before and I don't know more than the fact that they will most likely hand out vouchers. This store did change their hours starting last Sunday, so they are open from 9am instead of the 10am that they used to open. From what I am aware of the 5600x and 5800x there is no rush. The only CPU that will be very limited will be the 5900x, which is to be expected. So I would say see if you can swing by around 6:30am to get a spot for the voucher. They are no longer needed to be present until check-in times at 4am and 7am on launch day. The problem with this is MC sale of the CPUs are based off of a first come first serve basis. Despite that people were able to come and go as the please without having to physically wait in line, which is typically part of the FCFS process for items with limited availability. This is pretty unfair to the people who are willing to wait in line for however long in order to purchase the product. This system would have been better suited for a raffle giving people the equal opportunity of securing a CPU while saving many time and effort. I understand that this maybe a smarter move in light of COVID-19 however, I feel that MC should be doing more to organize these actual releases rather than leaving it up to the consumers waiting outside. I believe the system was inspired by the one started during the 30 series GPU releases as shown in BitWit's video on youtube, however that system was much more rigid with 30 minute check-in times and required potential buyers to be in queue for much longer times than not as FCFS queues should be. Whether or not the 100 or so people who've already signed up would've been willing to wait when they arrived until doors open, doesn't change the fact that the situation is what it is right now, that there is no real queue and that the list could have easily been manipulated preventing people who were more willing to wait to purchase their item from doing so. TLDR: MC Tustin is getting run by a bunch of people who don't know how a first come first serve queue works. As someone whos camped out over the years for items with limited availability such as shoes, clothing, collectables, etc. This is pretty bullshit. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter bbnn ✭ November 5 Xkix said: @bbnn doesn’t look like it but everyone is really chill and friendly here we know the order  nice you guys stay safe AARGH said: CrashAegis said: AARGH said: PrestonYoungsley said: Whats breakdown of chips wanted out of the 22 @ fairfax, I'll probably just roll up in the AM, all i want is a measly 5600x #   Type 08 5950 13 5900 01 5800 01 5600 and 3 for 3080 cards just in case Any clue if the 5950 folks are opting for that card or bust?  Probably take an hour to get there and I'd hate to be just edged out if they opt 5900 instead At least 5 are, we are at 26 people in line as of last check in..   11 - 5950 16 - 5900 02 - 5800 01 - 5600 04 - Also interested in 3080's damn people still buying 3080s 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter CrashAegis ✭ November 5 Sheepykin said: radioToys said: Sheepykin said: 5 people in line at the Rockville location with everyone on a list and want 5900x. The number of exabytes is down to 2.1.  We were folding over 2.4 at the beginning of my journey here.  This means every team is losing members.  FAH needs to get itself back in the press again.  More importantly, there needs to be a way to find a community that hasn't been tapped to help out.  MIght I suggest a few ideas... Stadiums and Arenas: (When not in use there are hundreds of computers sitting idle in a stadium) Start a town computing project:          Every town that has a library or town hall take one computer and set it up to run FAH.  As of 2018, there are 19,495 incorporated cities, towns and villages in the United States. 14,768 of these have populations below 5,000.  Presume 15000 computers at a minimum of a Core2Duo.  That's 60,000 cores producing 20 Petaflops. Hospitals and clinics:        There are over 7000 hospitals and clinics in the US.  Imagine if every hospital and clinic contributed one computer to the cause. Corporations:       There are tens of thousands of corporations across the US.  Some are small, some are huge.  Most have an IT department.  Take one scrap computer (or more) and set up FAH stations around the company, showing how they are supporting the fight against disease. I don't have the connections to get these ideas to people except on a one on one basis.  As a grass roots methodology I am just one person and I have tried to encourage people to join this fight.  Others are in better places to make changes, and kick this up to WSU for them to consider.  I presume WSU has a marketing team?  I'm just an idea guy.  Maybe someone here knows how to run with it. Be cool, Kirito 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter kmiller922 Glenside, Pa ✭✭✭ May 23 edited May 23 I'd also add to that list every towns schools as well as colleges and university's. This is more of the social model of helping people to see the value of the technology beside surfing YouTube and checking email.  This also distributes the power costs over a broader range of people.  This logic could also be applied globally.  "What if they gave a war for a virus and everyone came?"  Declaring war against Covid-19 as a full political model, and then develop strategy and tactics appropriately we could be more efficient about beating it. Defense:      Social Distancing      Face masks      Working from home      Contact tracing      Support Systems (Hospitals, Testing)      Home front contributions                              FAH, Making Masks, Ventilators Offense:      Intel:        Scientific research, data sampling, Virus Modeling      Attack:     Vaccination, Medication      Weapons:     Distributed computer modeling, scientific research facilities, pharmaceutical plants      Support systems:     IT, FAH, Communications We are just one part of this war.  We do our job.  We need more Rosie the Riveter's, one rivet at a time, helping to find the answer to this. FAH gives people a way to contribute, to fight the war, instead of being locked in their house and powerless.  We may not be the most efficient, but when we work together we can overwhelm the problems. So in the end it may be less about efficiency, and more about pulling people together. Like I said, its just an idea.  I just don't know how to reach a broader audience with it.  I am just a geek with a few computers.  I'm not a salesman.  I just operate equipment.  I just think it would be better if we had more weapons at our disposal. Because, i don't have any corsair devices, my case might be corsair but it's so old it doesn't have any controller or anything, so, do i **need** the Commander Pro to be able to have the fans light up? or, will they light up, but not be controllable lighting-wise? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Enamelized Va ✭ September 7 @Ionmaster987 with the Corsair H100i coming with that controller you plug it into a Sata connection and then there's a 3 pin you connect to the motherboard and then to that controller. The Corsair RGB Fan Hub (the one pictured) will power the RGB For your Corsair RGB Fans.  It will not allow you to control the RGB however, it just defaults them to the default RGB setting on the Fan (Rainbow Cycle usually).  You can however, connect the RGB Fan Hub to either the Lightning Node PRO or the Commander PRO.  These will connect to the RGB Fan HUB and then connect to a USB 2.0 header on your motherboard.   In short, to make it controllable, you WILL need to connect it to the Lightning Node PRO or Commander PRO.   0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Ionmaster987 ✭ September 7 edited September 7 Darn, would i at-least be able to control their speed through the hub? Or no? If so, i might as-well just get a Commander Pro, since it has enough slots to control the fans the AIO comes with. In the future, might want a lighting node pro to be able to have the RGB be seperate for other fans.. So, now a question: do you think that AIO can fit inside a Carbide Series Spec01?  https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/529832591134556162/752558364168552489/unknown.png This is my case, it looks like it'll fit at the top if the tank is towards the front.. Wait hang on, i just looked, apparently the one i've been talking about is the iCUE H100I RGB PRO XT Liquid Cooler, the Platinum's a bit too expensive, but it appears it doesn't even have rgb fans, so i might not even need a commander.. You do NOT need the Lighting Node Pro or Commander Pro to change the actual fan speeds. The difference between the two coolers is that the H100i RGB PRO XT does not have RGB fans, while the H100i platinum does. Both of them have RGB on the pump.  Based on Cosair's spec sheet for your case it can only support a 120mm radiator, not a 240mm.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Ionmaster987 ✭ September 7 TSTonyV said: The fan speed is controllable by your motherboard/monitoring software, based on your CPU temperature. If not, I'm not really sure what to do, i've been wanting an AIO just because it'd be quieter and better looking that i haven't given any thought to what i'd do if i couldn't even put it in. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSTonyV admin September 7 I'm going based on Corsair's spec sheet on their website.  https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Cases/Carbide-Series™-SPEC-01-Red-LED-Mid-Tower-Gaming-Case/p/CC-9011050-WW#tab-tech-specs Even if it looks like there's room, the question is what the clearances are. The problem with the Spec-01 is that if you install a top-mounted radiator and fans they will come down far enough that they'll cover the tops of the RAM slots as well as the 8-pin CPU power on the top-left corner, and any other things like fan headers across the top. If your RAM or anything else plugged in across the top is too tall, you won't be able to properly install the cooler.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Ionmaster987 ✭ September 7 So, then i'd need a new case.. Welcome to the Community. I split your comment out into its own discussion to make it a little easier to keep track of.  We have a lot of laptops available that would suit those purposes. If he doesn't download much or need a lot of storage, I would definitely recommend getting something with an SSD, as SSDs help everything run very quick and smooth. This link will show you the laptops we carry between $400-500 that have SSDs, I think this would be a good starting point: https://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.aspx?Ntk=all&sortby=match&N=4294967288+4294818055+4294819900+42&myStore=true 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter C0v3rt_X ✭ May 2 jackie said: looking for a laptop for my 80 year old Dad...he typically uses it for surfing internet, watch podcasts and play music, although he does not down load any.  just need a pretty simply one--not too expensive.  Can you give me some ideas of what to look for?  Thanks! Hello Jackie. Always remember this saying "you get what you paid for". Given your needs, I can suggest a Intel core i3 laptop with a minimum 256 GB SSD. Micro Center has some great deals. Check them out! Or you can look into the refurbished deals. I purchase what used to be an approx $1,200 HP business laptop for $550 with tax at Micro center. It has a Intel core i7, 512 GB SSD storage and other goodies. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Community Article Micro Center Black Friday Announcement — Micro Center Micro Center Black Friday Announcement TSPhillipT admin November 2 edited November 2 in Announcements, News & Launches Hello everyone – thank you for being a part of our Micro Center Community!  I am proud to announce our Black Friday Sale for the year 2020!  One of our biggest concerns when it comes to Black Friday is the large groups and gatherings common for Black Friday shopping.  These can be very dangerous during the current situation regarding COVID-19.   In response to these worries, our Black Friday will begin on 11/02/2020 and go all the way to 11/30/2020.  We are expecting to spread the crowd thinner by increasing the duration of Black Friday.  We are extending our Black Friday sales for nearly a whole month to give our customers more time to shop and save on the best products this holiday season. In addition to our extended Black Friday Sale, we will also be keeping a Black Friday Price Promise!  More details on this to come in the next post.  Black Friday Price Promise My Favorite Picks of the Sale! 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSPhillipT admin November 2 edited November 2 Black Friday Price Promise Our Black Friday Price Promise ensures you that you have the lowest price on items listed in our Black Friday promotions.  If the purchase price for your item goes lower during our extended Black Friday period, you can contact us via Text or Chat, and we can get that item price matched!  You can text your local Micro Center store to begin the Black Friday Price Promise process via text.  To chat, please visit our Solutions Center and a prompt to begin a chat will be in the bottom right.  You may need to disable your adblocker if you do not see that prompt in the bottom right.   Black Friday Price Promise: Micro Center customers that purchase a qualifying item (products listed in our Black Friday promotions) between 11/02/20 – 11/30/20 and if the price of the qualifying item goes lower than your purchase price before November 30, 2020, we will refund you the difference between your purchase price and the lower price. Refunds must take place before 01/15/2021. Excludes products purchased with coupons, bundles, services and price errors. All refunds will be based upon your original payment method. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSPhillipT admin November 2 edited November 3 Here are some of my favorite picks from our current Black Friday Sale!  I think $299.99 for an i9 9900k is a fantastic price for the power the 9900k has.  Not too familiar with building a PC and only want one to plug in and play, our PowerSpec G228 is an excellent start for a gaming PC with the ability to upgrade with newer parts in the future!  Also, the iPad 8 for $279.99 is perfect for anyone needing a tablet, and you can pair that with the Apple Airpod Pros at $199.99.  I love my Airpod Pros and use them every day; both the Active Noise Cancelling and Transparency modes are amazing for multiple situations.  If you are in need of a good laptop for everyday use, I highly recommend the Acer Aspire 3, with a 10th Gen Processor, it is a great modern laptop at $499.99   Check out all of our Black Friday Sales here! 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSPhillipT admin November 2 Which sales look interesting to you?  You can comment on this thread for any questions you have regarding Black Friday!  I would love to see what items you may be getting on Black Friday; post them here, so I know and maybe get it myself!  1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter BlazerBuddy ✭ November 2 edited November 4 I might grab me an iPad 8 for my dad. PSU was replaced at the beginning of the week, following advice from online forums and Microcenter staff. Following installation of the new unit (SEASONIC FOCUS+ 750W 80+G), system operated free of this error for about 50 hours. The error returned, occurring twice within the last 12 hours, while the system was idling. What other factors may be contributing to this error? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSTonyV admin August 13 Besides replacing the PSU is there anything else you've tried? Redownloading drivers, restoring BIOS defaults and clearing any XMP or overclocking settings, reinstalling Windows, any temperature monitoring that you've done? Any extra details you can provide would be helpful.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Event_ID_41 ✭ August 14 edited August 14 Any drivers in particular that I should be redownloading, or should I just redownload every driver for core systems? Have not attempted BIOS restore. CPU is a 3570k running at default clock speed, and has never been overclocked. RAM has also remained at factory speeds, so I don't imagine XMP settings are causing the issue. (16GB of Crucial Tech BLS8G3D1609DS1S00 DDR3 RAM) Have not attempted to reinstall Windows. I am monitoring system temps via Corsair Link, and core systems (motherboard, CPU) are operating at around 40-42℃. CPU is cooled via a Corsair H100i AIO, operating at 30℃, and NVIDIA GTX 1070 (Zotac Extreme Amp!) graphics card runs at 37℃ while idling. Edit: for reference, motherboard is Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSPhillipT admin August 14 Hello @Event_ID_41 I recommend to try a clean install of Windows 10.  A guide for that can be found here; https://community.microcenter.com/discussion/2288/how-to-perform-a-clean-install-of-windows-10 If the clean install didn't work, it's likely a type of hardware issue that is causing your system to restart and create the Event ID 41.  We do offer a diagnosis service if you would like to bring it in to our service desk, otherwise replacing parts 1 by 1 would be my recommendation as it's hard to pinpoint the exact issue with this if it is a hardware issue. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Event_ID_41 ✭ August 14 Hi @TSPhillipT Thank you. I will perform a clean install and see if it solves the problem. I actually had this same issue a number of years ago, and brought it in to you all for diagnosis (circa 2015?). At the time, the techs couldn't find a fault with any component, or with the system as a whole. After putting the system on a dedicated circuit, and replacing the stock heatsink with an AIO, the problem subsided. The error only reemerged earlier this year. I was already planning a system rebuild later this year, so I'm not sure about going to the trouble of trying to replace parts 1 by 1. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSPhillipT admin August 14 Gotcha, rebuild is the more expensive solution of replacing items haha but it does have quite the number of benefits.   Hope you have success with the clean install and if that doesn't work, let the new build be problem free!   1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Older Q87 mobo, i7-4770k cpu.  The skeleton chassis was scavenged from an old tower system, it's mostly repurposed gear.  Besides the GPUs, the only new stuff is case fans & heatsink, and I really didn't need the heatsink as I don't do CPU folding as it isn't power efficient.  PPD production is close to a 2080Ti and if you can get OpenBox GPUs, about 1/2 the cost! 4 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter RedJr55 NEOH ✭ June 12 For those that may be interested, there is currently an online auction (e***, not sure if live links are acceptable here or not) for a small quantity of WATTS UP? .NET power meters at a reasonable cost. The summer months will be difficult as most people will be paying more than double for the cost to run gear because of the cost to extract the heat generated. Of course no HVAC system is near 100% efficient, so summer PPDs can strain budgets & emotional commitments to a cause. One of the reasons I posted above about trimming watts expended and selecting gear with higher PPD/watt. So, one approach would be to encourage people to return in the cooler months.  Folding on cooler days or evening hours when power might be cheaper too. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter cine_chris Powder Springs, GA ✭✭✭ June 18 @kmiller922 The expectation of a 24hr/365 commitment is daunting to many people and the cost of participation a burden. Some ideas to ease the Folding commitment, encourage participation: 1) Fold-athon Weekend, once-per-month, the team maxes out heir effort for a weekend, challenging people to tag on Friday,Monday. Good way to invite others to participate and recruit for the team. 2) Sprints, similar in concept to Fold-athon. A day, a week, self-challenge, challenge friends, other teams. 3) Kiosks at local MC stores. My local store doesn`t have anything that I`m aware of... 4) Fall recruiting strategy, cooler temps, more powerful gear with higher efficiency will be arriving. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter teamtempest ✭ June 18 I don't know if any kind of contest would motivate me to do anything more than I'm already doing. I'm basically just donating spare cycles when I'm not seriously using it (running the folder at full power drags down anything involving rapid screen updates). What I find more motivating is seeing actual results coming out of all these contributions people are making. How many work units does it take to complete an average project? Hi teamtempest, the amount of WU in a project can vary greatly depending on the type of research it is. I would advise looking at the scientific papers published by the FAH team if you would like to see what ends up of the computational power! Some of them are quite interesting reads. They can take months to be peer reviewed though, so many of the covid papers are going to be quite some time out still.
