Here is my latest log: *********************** Log Started 2020-04-20T01:57:45Z *********************** 01:57:45:****************************** FAHClient ****************************** admin April 20 @JADO have you attempted to manually add them by going to Configure > Slots > Add? You should be able to leave the GPU value at -1. From there, add a slot for each potential GPU connected to the system, then save. They should reappear. If that doesn't work, you may be missing the GPUs.txt file in your [email protected] Client AppData directory. If that file is missing, visit this page, select all, save it into a notepad text file named GPUs.txt and place it in the %AppData%\FAHClient directory (Windows + R to open Run prompt, type that directory in for quick access). GPUs.txt page: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt Hopefully this works, if not, let me know. I'll try to troubleshoot more with you. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Thanks for the help.  I am pretty knowledgeable on this stuff and at this point I am guessing it a Windows issue....but, I have no way to know.  I have tried to add them manually but since FAH sees no GPU's the add disappears as soon as I exit and go back to the settings sheet.  I have also looked at the GPUs.txt file and it is where it is supposed to be  and again everything worked correctly for over 2 weeks.  The cards have two bios's on them. You can select them with a switch.  one was modified for crypto mining the other is stock..  I was using the stock bios and everything worked fine.  I switched to crypto bios (to see if I could improve speed) and everything still worked but it was not stable.  So, I switched back to standard bios which had been working and after the switch back Folding stopped finding the cards.  Again, they show up in device manager and it reports they are working normally.  When it stopped was when I started uninstalling and installing card drivers and FAH in different combinations but have not been able to get them to reconnect.. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 Thanks for helping.  I installed 7.6.9 today and I was able to manually add the GPU's.  Problem seems to be solved for now.  Thanks again. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Interesting that it only started after swapping to and from the VBIOS using the physical toggle switch. When you nuked the GPU drivers, did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? Just wanting to make sure every registry entry tied to those drivers were removed prior to reinstallation. Can you provide the name of the exact model of RX 580 you're using? I'll see if I have any lying around that I can try to replicate the issue with.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Actually, I don't think the VBIOS had anything to do with it.  I think it related to the latest FAH updates.. but again I am not sure.  I did use DDU (full discosure..I did not run it in Safe Mode) then I used Regedit and deleted all remnants of FAH I could find.  Still don't know why it would not find the cards after that  but after installing 7.6.9 today I was able to find and add them manually.  With 6 RX580s and a i5 9600K 6 core processor should I have any problems running all 6 cards?  Can I also safely use some of 6 cpu cores in addition to the GPU's?  Adding cards manually, FAH also added my Intel 630 motherboard graphics  GPU for processing.  I removed it because I figured that would just cause problems.  I guess what I am asking is with the hardware I have what do thin the optimal folding configuration for folding should be here?  Thanks  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Glad to hear the GPU's are recognized now. As for the hardware configuration, [email protected] recommends leaving one processing core per GPU. Since your 9600k has exactly 6 cores, I wouldn't recommend folding on the CPU at all as it will be of very little gain and may be detrimental to your GPU's scores, which are weighted far more heavily in terms of value. I don't see any issue running the Intel iGPU as it simply uses 2MB of cache and some spare system memory, so it shouldn't impact your stability at all. It might not score all that well, but it shouldn't hurt anything either.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 My thoughts exactly.  Thank you for confirming.  Appreciate the help. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 My pleasure. RenegadeRailz ✭ February 25 in Help Choosing Parts I'm trying to upgrade my current PC build however my use for my pc is varied and somewhat in a niche userbase. I currently run mostly train sims such as Trainz 2019 and TrainSim along with some online games such as World of Tanks and others like Cities:Skylines. As for the workstation part I work with blender alot along with gimp and adobe photoshop for texturing and painting 3D models for said simulators. I want to build a system that will be growable if I need more capacity and to be able to shred anything I throw at it. Can someone help me with deciding on my upgrade path of which would benefit me more? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSTonyV admin February 25 edited February 25 Any of the CPU options would be huge upgrade over your current system. However if your budget is $2000 for the upgrades altogether, the 3970x  is definitely out of the question at $1900. The 3960x is probably also out of the question at $1400 since the cheapest TRX40 board we have is about $370 and you would be forced to purchase a new cooler with it on top of the new memory. The 3950x will be better for gaming vs. the 2950x since it has higher single thread performance, though the 2950x would still also be a huge upgrade in every category over the FX chip. One thing to consider for future-proofing is that boards for the 2950x are still PCIe 3.0, whereas the X570 and TRX40 boards for the third-gen Ryzen CPUs have PCIe 4.0 support.  This would be an example of a configuration you could go for with the 3950x: https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=db7c1d22-e25c-430d-8ace-3d54531cca69 If you don't care about PCIe 4.0 that much, you can easily jump down to a PCIe 3.0 NVME drive rather than the PCIe 4.0 drive and save a good chunk of change or add more storage capacity. I did include a new liquid cooler for your CPU in that configuration which should work with your case, however you could continue to use your current cooler if you pick up Corsair's AM4 mounting bracket kit for it: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-%7C-Parts/PC-Components/Cooling/AM4-AMD-Retention-Bracket-Kit-for-Hydro-Series%E2%84%A2-Coolers/p/CW-8960046 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter RenegadeRailz ✭ February 25 I have another option with a spare 2000$ I can use if its worth going to the STR4 3970x or 3960x for future proofing but I'm also trying to lower the total wattage draw of my system. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSTonyV admin February 27 In terms of "future proofing" the Threadrippers will certainly have the best longevity for workstation tasks. One thing I would consider would be, are you using this as a workstation to make money, and would having speedier performance increase your monetary gain? If your time is money then the Threadrippers would probably be worth it. But the Threadrippers have very high power draw, and there's no way around that. If lowering your power draw is really, really important it'd be better to stick with non-Threadripper parts. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMikeW admin March 2 Within your budget the 3950X with an X570 board sounds like your best option. You'll drop the TDP from 220W down to 105W. The X570 board gives you PCIe Gen4 for future proofing. Also, it's easy to push your memory clocks the third gen Ryzen's. 3600mhz is optimal clockspeed with infinity fabric clock. I would focus on those components. Your PSU, case and cooler are all solid. You just need to order an AM4 bracket for the H100i. They're $4.99 on the Corsair website.  For storage, you could upgrade your SSD's. Gen4 NVME is available. Around $200 for a 1TB SSD, but the speeds are considerably increased. 5GBps read, 4.3 write on the drives I've tested. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Welcome to the Community. Everything in your build list is compatible, just keep in mind that there's a small chance the B450 motherboard will require a BIOS update to be compatible with the CPU. Most all the 400-series boards should have the BIOS updated out of box by now, but we still see one every once in a while that needs to be updated.  Besides that, I'd personally prefer a different case, like the Fractal Design Meshify C, since it has better airflow. You could also save some cost by going with non-RGB memory. Otherwise the build is solid overall.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Prxly ✭ May 21 Awesome! Skill Ripjaws V 3600 CL16 kit is only 84 bucks at micro center and basically everywhere you can find it.  So essentially the same ram for 30 bucks cheaper.  Which would basically pay for a 1tb spinning drive for more storage at the same price.  And from personal experience the meshify C is an awesome case 10/10 would recomend. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. If they miss it then they notify you very quickly upon them opening, which will be in about 5 hours. The question then is WHEN they get their first batch. For the 5950x it is possible they don't get their shipment until later in the week when other stores get it sooner. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter RocketStation ✭ November 5 Just got to Marietta, there’s about 20 in line. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Joker4L ✭ November 5 RocketStation said: Just got to Marietta, there’s about 20 in line. Community Article I have a Dell inspiron 3650 desktop and when I insert a cd into the optical drive it ejects it — Micro Center I have a Dell inspiron 3650 desktop and when I insert a cd into the optical drive it ejects it tom ✭ April 22 in Technical Support Questions I insert a cd  and again after a few seconds it ejects it out again and again says insert a cd. I just dont get what the issue is. is there a way to fix it? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Best Answer TSMikeW admin April 22 Accepted Answer We'll be happy provide some advise on this issue for you. To verify does the disc eject after a few seconds by itself or does it eject after you try to open it in file explorer? If it's the former, it's likely a defective ODD. I wouldn't replace the slimline drives on the 3650. I would just replace it with an external.  If it's the latter, that it's ejecting when you open file explorer and try to open the drive, then it isn't enumerating the driver automatically. You can insert the drive and try to do this manually from Powershell with: Get-WMIObject -windowstyle hidden -Class Win32_CDROMDrive -Property * | Get-Member To open Powershell, right click on the "Start" button, it'll be one of the options in your power user menu. 5 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Answers tom ✭ April 22 Ok I'll try it again and see which one its doing and get back to you.  Thanks for the help  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Community Article Suitable CPU cooler (non-water) for i7-9700K — Micro Center Suitable CPU cooler (non-water) for i7-9700K JasonA ✭ May 20 edited May 20 in CPU's, Memory and Motherboards Looking for recommendations regarding a suitable CPU fan and radiator to suit this CPU. The main workload will be Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Classic- and maybe running some Linux VMs under VirtualBox. I am not going to be doing any sort of gaming. I really don't want to go down the path of water cooling.  I don't even want any fancy RGB lighting  I just want a cooler that sits on the CPU and attaches to the motherboard, i.e. just a plain setup that keeps my CPU cool. If it makes any difference I'm looking at the Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard as my preferred option. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSMikeW admin May 20 If you're not overclocking the stock cooler is fine. If you want to upgrade, I would go with the Cooler Master EVO 212. It's been the best budget air cooler for a very long time. It's a 120mm cooler, it's no slouch, it would support overclocking. If you want the want to go beyond that we have the Noctua NH-U14S, but it's a 165mm tall monster. You have to be mindful of clearance between the motherboard and the side panel. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JasonA ✭ May 21 edited May 21 Will the Cooler Master EVO 212 fit OK into the Corsair SPEC-02 RED case that you have ? That's what I'm thinking about, and I am a bit nervous about the cooler size relative to the case itself. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMikeW admin May 21 According to the manufacturer specifications, it's 4mm too tall for the chassis. I mentioned some alternative cases in your other post. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Community Article Need Help Choosing Parts — Micro Center Need Help Choosing Parts Daniel_2807 ✭ November 9 in Help Choosing Parts I put this parts list together and am looking for some advice. https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=adba4209-4e3e-4112-b8a8-9b851bfe9ac7 I mainly want to know if I can get 1080p 60fbs minimum from this system, and where I can possibly save on some money. The help is greatly appreciated. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments LandShark admin November 9 Hey, @Daniel_2807. Welcome to the community! I think you've got a solid selection here. Yes, you'll be able to get 1080p 60fps in many current games. If you're looking for ways to reduce the cost of your build, you could remove the CPU cooler that you've added, as your CPU comes with a cooler. Also, you don't need a CD drive. As there isn't a drive bay for a CD/DVD drive in your case. Hope this helps! 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. I have several pieces I've decided on for certain, as for the rest I'll probably ask for what I should get since I'm not certain for it all.
