Community Article Refurbished 65" TV - first time plugin, 30% of the screen is dead! — Micro Center Refurbished 65" TV - first time plugin, 30% of the screen is dead! Janube ✭ June 28 in Customer Service Questions Hello, a couple weeks ago I got one of those TCL 6 series 65" screens, and I just got around to trying it out yesterday. To my surprise and dismay, while the physical screen looked undamaged, it was clearly dropped during the refurbishing/restocking process at some point. The Microcenter return policy doesn't say much about refurbished units like this, so I'd love some clarity before I try to head in for a return: The "original packaging" was a nondescript, blank cardboard box that had to be cut open to get the TV out safely. Do I need to return the TV in that box taped-up? How best should I do that? For the same reason, the materials for the TV/stand cannot be put back into the original baggies they were in. Should I take apart the stand and place the screws in a ziplock bag or something? If there are no more of the 65" TCL series 6 units available at my location, are there any other options other than just getting a refund for this minor league pain in the ass? Thanks so much! 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSMikeW admin June 28 We do apologize for the trouble with the new product and I'm sure we can get it exchanged for you. We'll have to work with a manager and see what we can do if there are no other units available to exchange it for you. I'm going to open a support ticket and contact you via email for your receipt information and we'll proceed from there. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. admin April 20 @JADO have you attempted to manually add them by going to Configure > Slots > Add? You should be able to leave the GPU value at -1. From there, add a slot for each potential GPU connected to the system, then save. They should reappear. If that doesn't work, you may be missing the GPUs.txt file in your [email protected] Client AppData directory. If that file is missing, visit this page, select all, save it into a notepad text file named GPUs.txt and place it in the %AppData%\FAHClient directory (Windows + R to open Run prompt, type that directory in for quick access). GPUs.txt page: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt Hopefully this works, if not, let me know. I'll try to troubleshoot more with you. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Thanks for the help.  I am pretty knowledgeable on this stuff and at this point I am guessing it a Windows issue....but, I have no way to know.  I have tried to add them manually but since FAH sees no GPU's the add disappears as soon as I exit and go back to the settings sheet.  I have also looked at the GPUs.txt file and it is where it is supposed to be  and again everything worked correctly for over 2 weeks.  The cards have two bios's on them. You can select them with a switch.  one was modified for crypto mining the other is stock..  I was using the stock bios and everything worked fine.  I switched to crypto bios (to see if I could improve speed) and everything still worked but it was not stable.  So, I switched back to standard bios which had been working and after the switch back Folding stopped finding the cards.  Again, they show up in device manager and it reports they are working normally.  When it stopped was when I started uninstalling and installing card drivers and FAH in different combinations but have not been able to get them to reconnect.. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 Thanks for helping.  I installed 7.6.9 today and I was able to manually add the GPU's.  Problem seems to be solved for now.  Thanks again. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Interesting that it only started after swapping to and from the VBIOS using the physical toggle switch. When you nuked the GPU drivers, did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? Just wanting to make sure every registry entry tied to those drivers were removed prior to reinstallation. Can you provide the name of the exact model of RX 580 you're using? I'll see if I have any lying around that I can try to replicate the issue with.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Actually, I don't think the VBIOS had anything to do with it.  I think it related to the latest FAH updates.. but again I am not sure.  I did use DDU (full discosure..I did not run it in Safe Mode) then I used Regedit and deleted all remnants of FAH I could find.  Still don't know why it would not find the cards after that  but after installing 7.6.9 today I was able to find and add them manually.  With 6 RX580s and a i5 9600K 6 core processor should I have any problems running all 6 cards?  Can I also safely use some of 6 cpu cores in addition to the GPU's?  Adding cards manually, FAH also added my Intel 630 motherboard graphics  GPU for processing.  I removed it because I figured that would just cause problems.  I guess what I am asking is with the hardware I have what do thin the optimal folding configuration for folding should be here?  Thanks  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Glad to hear the GPU's are recognized now. As for the hardware configuration, [email protected] recommends leaving one processing core per GPU. Since your 9600k has exactly 6 cores, I wouldn't recommend folding on the CPU at all as it will be of very little gain and may be detrimental to your GPU's scores, which are weighted far more heavily in terms of value. I don't see any issue running the Intel iGPU as it simply uses 2MB of cache and some spare system memory, so it shouldn't impact your stability at all. It might not score all that well, but it shouldn't hurt anything either.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 My thoughts exactly.  Thank you for confirming.  Appreciate the help. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 My pleasure. You can actually download and create a bootable Windows 10 USB drive for free here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10  You will need a Windows computer that can connect to the internet and a USB drive that is at least 8 GB. You will not be able to do this on your Mac, unfortunately. Is it possible for you to use a friend's PC to create this? Keep in mind, it can take at least an hour to create.  We have a guide on our website on how to use the Media Creation Tool: https://www.microcenter.com/tech_center/article/11085/how-to-perform-a-clean-installation-of-windows-10 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. I just dont get what the issue is. is there a way to fix it? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Best Answer TSMikeW admin April 22 Accepted Answer We'll be happy provide some advise on this issue for you. To verify does the disc eject after a few seconds by itself or does it eject after you try to open it in file explorer? If it's the former, it's likely a defective ODD. I wouldn't replace the slimline drives on the 3650. I would just replace it with an external.  If it's the latter, that it's ejecting when you open file explorer and try to open the drive, then it isn't enumerating the driver automatically. You can insert the drive and try to do this manually from Powershell with: Get-WMIObject -windowstyle hidden -Class Win32_CDROMDrive -Property * | Get-Member To open Powershell, right click on the "Start" button, it'll be one of the options in your power user menu. 5 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Answers tom ✭ April 22 Ok I'll try it again and see which one its doing and get back to you.  Thanks for the help  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. It's odd that it was missing, however most modern hardware no longer needs driver disks as it's much better to obtain the latest graphics driver directly from the chip manufacturer website. In this case, that would be AMD. Here is a link to the latest graphics driver for the RX 5600 XT: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-5600-series/amd-radeon-rx-5600-series/amd-radeon-rx-5600-xt. Run Troubleshooting through the Control Panel. Open the Control Panel. You can do this by clicking on the Type here to search, entering Control Panel, and selecting the top result.   Ensure the control panel is being viewed by Small (or large) icons and then open Troubleshooting.   Select the Configure a device option under Hardware and Sound. Follow the prompts that show on the Troubleshooter that appears.   Check BIOS to ensure the DVD drive is detected. Depending on what your machine, when you boot up your machine you will need to press a button to go into your BIOS. From there you can check your system to make sure the CD/DVD drive shows up. If it does not show up here, shut down the system and unplug it from your outlet. Then, open the side panel and check to make sure the cables are seated properly for both the power and the data. If this is an external drive, make sure the USB connection is properly seated.  2. Update chipset driver for motherboard. You can find the driver for the computer on the support page for the motherboard. If this is a pre-built system from a manufacturer, you will find it on the manufacturer’s support page. 3. Update or reinstall the driver for the CD/DVD Driver. Open device manager. You can do so by holding the Windows key and pressing X to bring up a menu at the start key. Then click on Device Manager.   Open DVD/CD-ROM drives to see the driver for your CD/DVD drive.   Right-click on the driver to and select Update driver.   On the following prompt, select Search automatically for updated driver software and let it search for results. If the driver updates, check if it works afterward.   If the issue is not resolved at this point, right-click on the device and choose to Uninstall device.   After uninstalling the driver, reboot the computer. So long as the drive is physically connected to the system as it needs to, you should see the driver back on the device manager after rebooting. 4. Reinstall drivers under the IDE/ADAPI category on the device manager. Open device manager. You can do so by holding the Windows key and pressing X to bring up a menu at the start key. Then click on Device Manager.   Open the IDE/ATAPI controllers   Right-click on the ATA Controller 0 and select Uninstall device to uninstall.   Right-click on the ATA Controller 1 and select Uninstall device to uninstall. Right-click on the Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller and select Uninstall device to uninstall. Repeat this for any additional ATA Controller drivers in this category. After uninstalling the drivers, reboot the computer. The drivers should be reinstalled upon booting.   5. Fix corrupt registry entry.   Note: It is important to be careful with registries as altering the wrong registry can cause issues with your computer. Proceed with this step with due caution. Changes to registry occur immediately, there is no prompt to save or discard changes.   Click on the Type here to search on the taskbar and search RegEdit. Select the Regedit result to open the Registry Editor.   On the navigation bar near the top, go to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} You can also navigate the subfolders on the left pane to get to the same folder. On the right pane, locate the upper filter and lower filter. Delete these two entries by selecting each one and then on the upper left corner, open the Edit and then select Delete.   After the upper and lower filters are deleted, close the Registry Editor and reboot the computer. 6. Create a registry subkey. Note: It is important to be careful with registries as altering the wrong registry can cause issues with your computer. Proceed with this step with due caution. Click on the Type here to search on the taskbar and search RegEdit. Select the Regedit result to open the Registry Editor.   On the navigation bar near the top, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi You can also navigate the subfolders on the left pane to get to the same folder.   Right-click on the atapi folder on the left pane. On the menu that comes up, go the New and select the Key. Type Controller0 in the prompt and then press Enter.   Right-click on Controller0 and within New, select DWORD(32-bit) Value.   Type EnumDevice1 when prompted for the name of the new value. Right-click on EnumDevice1 and then click on Modify…   In the Value data box, set it to 1 and then click on OK.   Exit the Registry Editor and reboot the computer to apply changes. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. What would be the advantages or benefits to gain from switching to a gaming monitor? Also with ps4 pro maxing out at 60Hz would a monitor with more than 60Hz be wasted money? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSMichaelB admin April 28 The biggest advantage is less input lag/latency. LCD TV's were notorious for having awful input lag when compared to older CRT's & computer monitors. Luckily most modern TV's include Game Modes designed to reduce input lag substantially. RTing's has a fantastic article written up to explain input lag, as well as some benchmarks comparing different input lag between TV's & monitors: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/input-lag.  As for using a higher refresh rate monitor, there wouldn't be a benefit (yet). With the rumors of the PS5 supporting higher refresh rate gaming, it might come in handy in the future, especially if you find yourself jumping into PC gaming later on. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Community Article Why does "Disable compatibility filter" keep on getting checked ? — Micro Center Why does "Disable compatibility filter" keep on getting checked ? JasonA ✭ May 21 in Help Choosing Parts I am creating a build, and for some reason "Disable compatibility filter" keeps on getting checked for several components, but not all of them.  If I go through each major category (Core, CPU Cooling, etc) and make sure all the check marks are cleared, and then I save it, as soon as it's finished saving, the check marks reappear. e.g.  on the Core components they are everywhere except the RAM and the Hard Drive sub-components. Any ideas what's going on ? I do not want to buy a bunch of components only to discover that they are incompatible. HELP !!!  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSMikeW admin May 21 I was testing this to see if I could replicate the issue. I was not able to. Please provide a link to your build and we'll look it over. We'll verify it's compatible for you and investigate what's going on with our site. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JasonA ✭ May 21 This is my build. https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=673ed00b-b4ba-4ca3-a0b7-cb7adbeb9831 I would definitely appreciate feedback on the compatibility (or lack thereof) ASAP as I've reserved all the parts for pickup late last night and just got an e-mail saying they're ready at the store. To try and give myself a bit of sanity, I ran it through PC Parts Picker, and it flagged that there *MIGHT* a height issue with the Hyper 212 EVO and the case.  I say *MIGHT* because they say that some dimensions aren't checked fully e.g. for coolers. That has me worried.  Also, they do not have your in-house PowerSpec PSUs in their system, so I don't know if that presents an issue.  Using a different brand gave me a warning (on PC Part Picker) that the particular Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard has an extra 4-pin ATX connector. What are the practical implications (good or bad) of choosing the PowerSpec 650 modular supply (SKU 405217) rather than the semi-modular one (SKU 686089) that I current have in my build ? Specifically, with regard to ease-of-build and overall compatibility with my other components ? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMikeW admin May 21 The only questionable thing here is the cooler and case as you mentioned. The case allows for a cooler up to 157mm tall, and the EVO 212 is 159mm tall, By the specifications this will cause a problem. And you don't want the cooler resting on the side panel. I'd suggest swapping it for an NZXT H510 or a LianLi LanCool II. Those are at least 165mm of clearance, higher on the LanCool II. Everything else is fine. With the modular power supply, it's potentially a little easier with cable management, but not much of a different overall. Generally semi-modular means the 24 and 8 pins are premantly attached. The cables you're not likely to need are removable for beter cable management.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JasonA ✭ May 22 edited May 22 Thanks for the reply @TSMikeW ! Are there any other cooling options that would still work for my particular Corsair SPEC-02 case and the i7-9700 that are carried by Micro Center ? Or is my only option to change the case ? If I go with the LanCool II case, do you have any recommendations regarding the fans in the case ? I watched the Gamers Nexus review and they suggested that cooling was perhaps not as good as it could be relative to other cases, and that an extra fan was needed. Do you have any particular thoughts about this ? Finally, were you able to figure out why the system builder always keeps changing the "Disable compatibility filter" setting ? The Gamers Nexus review is at:   0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMikeW admin May 25 No update on the compatability filter. I did the same build and wasn't having the issue. Must be something stored in the profile. Probably need to delete the saved build and recreate it, but we'll look into it further. For cooling, water would be a good option. No issues with height on a water block. On my build I moved the front fans to the top and added a 360MM radiator with 3x120MM on the front. I never ran it stock, runs just fine in that configuration on my overclocked 3900X.  I apologize for the delayed response on this. Was out for the weekend and this is the first time I saw your reply. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JasonA ✭ May 26 Hi @TSMikeW.  I went to your Yonkers store on Friday and got all the parts, and then spent Saturday slowly and carefully assembling everything. I went with the Hyper 212 EVO, and though it’s an older CPU cooler, it seems more than capable than doing the job (without me pushing the CPU using overclocking). I can appreciate how using water cooling can reduce the case size, but I’ve got the Lancool II now and there’s plenty of room (even if the case is approx. 9” wide !!!). I put two of the provided fans in the front of the case, with one exhaust fan located in the top part of the rear panel. Running FurMark to stress the GPU showed me that I can keep the GPU at no more than 65 degrees C, and when pushing the CPU hard with my typical workload it’s staying cool enough (I can’t remember the maximum temperature that I saw - sorry !). Once again, thanks for all your help. You are 110% entitled to take a day or two off for the Memorial Day Weekend !!! I hope that you did something to relax and forget about work and COVID-19 for a while ! 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMikeW admin May 26 Glad you're enjoying it and yes, the LanCool II is a cavern compared to a lot of cases out there. Temps shouldn't be a problem with even the stock cooler, the EVO 212 will do a great job. Now on 7/28, I am installing the TV and the corner of this TV is absolutely shattered and the TV is unusable. As I was unboxing I did cut the box at the corners as to make sure it would fit in  my dumpster, but I still have the parts of the box. I have texted the number for the Houston store but I was told I would get a call from a manager at 12:30pm and it is currently 6:15pm.
