I have time to wait so I'll hold out for a Tuf or Strix. Have they been getting restocked at all there since launch? If so, are restocks just a random time/day of the week? Is there any history available of when past restocks have happened to track? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Temjin ✭ October 8 edited October 8 Does the Brentwood store have any 3090s in stock?  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter noomi85 New Jersey ✭ October 8 edited October 8 Tried the NJ - Paterson location again this morning, lined up extra early and was 1st in line. Also how was the Tustin store been like with the 3080s? 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TechSavvyBuyer ✭ October 8 Hello everyone. Thought i'd share my experience on my hunt for a 3080 so far.  What DOESN'T work: Calling Microcenter local/call center numbers Asking Sales reps for updates on when cards will be in Looking for insider info from sales reps Trusting the call center folks on "insider" tips of deliveries DONT RELY ON THE WEBSITE AT ALL - STOCK NEVER GETS UPDATED BECAUSE THE CARDS SELL OUT BEFORE IT CAN EVEN BE UPDATED.  What DID work: Going to the store EVERYDAY an hour before they open, the rush has calmed down a bit and usually only 4-10 ppl are there. You can go earlier than an hour if you really wanna secure your card.  Ask sales reps the average timing of the delivery trucks arriving and stay until that truck arrives from the moment the store opens.  This is what i did and i finally got my EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 card yesterday. I went literally every single day since last Friday 10/2 and it was the only way i could get it. My store for reference was Sharonville, OH. What i also noticed is that there is so much bad info being spread, even by MicroCenter sales reps/managers at the location you're shopping for. Trust no one and just keep showing up. One example for me is i went on Tuesday this week, was the only person in line, when they opened they stated that they had no stock coming in today and that i could go home. 2 hours later i was in the area and stopped in again to try my luck (despite being told they wont have jack) and saw someone in checkout with a Asus Tuf 3080! They got only one card that day, you bet that left me with a sour taste. SO TRUST NO ONE, SHOW UP EVERYDAY. if you are determined you will get it.  Ill get off my box now, good luck!!!! Also how was the Tustin store been like with the 3080s? The line usually starts the night before. Honestly, I think it's a waste of time right now. Today I came three hours before opening, and there were more than 20 people ahead of me. When the manager came out around 9:30 he told us there were no cards that day, but that the "good news" was that they would be getting 4 cards tomorrow. He was pretty rude to the people asking him questions too. He knew that they were 3080 cards, but didn't even know what brand. I'm kind of fed up with Mircocenter right now. This isn't the first time I've had a negative experience with the Tustin store management. I guess now that Frys is gone, they think they're the only game in town and can treat customers like dirty peasants. What's worse, when I got home I saw that there was a new listing for a sold out ASUS ROG Strix 3080 that wasn't there the night before. So the manager was either lying, or poorly informed. Either way, he did an excellent job of making us feel unwelcome. Not sure if I'm going to check back any more. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TechSavvyBuyer ✭ October 9 Freeebeard said: Bonenthugz said: Just wondering when does the line usually begin before the store opens? I don’t know if people are camping “overnight” at Columbus or not.... but I’ve tried going a handful of times in the past two weeks including this morning. today I drive up about 8am and there were already around 10 people lined up. I would ultimately like to buy my card from microcenter because I really like the store, but another option would be to try to get in EVGAs que system for a 3070 as I’m guessing they will do it for that card series too. I’m probably going to end up getting my 3080 that way unless I randomly happen the stop by microcenter and they have the one I want.... but from what I’ve personally seen they sell so fast it’s a real gamble on whether or not you’ll have the chance. Anyone who is idiotic enough to wait 20 days for a 3070 can get one, and with Nvidia pushing back release 2 weeks for better stock, plus AMD Big Navi reveal the day before and their stock reported to be much greater than nVidias, I'm not too worried for picking up a mid-tier card. HDD is very likely and I can provide information on repair here, however we do not typically quote repair pricing in our forum. We would have  you visit service for an accurate estimate on that. As for the repair with an iMac there are two ways to go about this. The expensive method is to find an Apple OEM drive with the temp sensor pins. The inexpensive way is to buy any SATA drive off the shelf and install it. The problem this creates is the fans will run at 100% RPM and it's quite noisy. Simple solution, Mac's Fan Control: https://crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control There is a free version. admin April 20 @JADO have you attempted to manually add them by going to Configure > Slots > Add? You should be able to leave the GPU value at -1. From there, add a slot for each potential GPU connected to the system, then save. They should reappear. If that doesn't work, you may be missing the GPUs.txt file in your [email protected] Client AppData directory. If that file is missing, visit this page, select all, save it into a notepad text file named GPUs.txt and place it in the %AppData%\FAHClient directory (Windows + R to open Run prompt, type that directory in for quick access). GPUs.txt page: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt Hopefully this works, if not, let me know. I'll try to troubleshoot more with you. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Thanks for the help.  I am pretty knowledgeable on this stuff and at this point I am guessing it a Windows issue....but, I have no way to know.  I have tried to add them manually but since FAH sees no GPU's the add disappears as soon as I exit and go back to the settings sheet.  I have also looked at the GPUs.txt file and it is where it is supposed to be  and again everything worked correctly for over 2 weeks.  The cards have two bios's on them. You can select them with a switch.  one was modified for crypto mining the other is stock..  I was using the stock bios and everything worked fine.  I switched to crypto bios (to see if I could improve speed) and everything still worked but it was not stable.  So, I switched back to standard bios which had been working and after the switch back Folding stopped finding the cards.  Again, they show up in device manager and it reports they are working normally.  When it stopped was when I started uninstalling and installing card drivers and FAH in different combinations but have not been able to get them to reconnect.. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 Thanks for helping.  I installed 7.6.9 today and I was able to manually add the GPU's.  Problem seems to be solved for now.  Thanks again. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Interesting that it only started after swapping to and from the VBIOS using the physical toggle switch. When you nuked the GPU drivers, did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)? Just wanting to make sure every registry entry tied to those drivers were removed prior to reinstallation. Can you provide the name of the exact model of RX 580 you're using? I'll see if I have any lying around that I can try to replicate the issue with.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 edited April 20 Actually, I don't think the VBIOS had anything to do with it.  I think it related to the latest FAH updates.. but again I am not sure.  I did use DDU (full discosure..I did not run it in Safe Mode) then I used Regedit and deleted all remnants of FAH I could find.  Still don't know why it would not find the cards after that  but after installing 7.6.9 today I was able to find and add them manually.  With 6 RX580s and a i5 9600K 6 core processor should I have any problems running all 6 cards?  Can I also safely use some of 6 cpu cores in addition to the GPU's?  Adding cards manually, FAH also added my Intel 630 motherboard graphics  GPU for processing.  I removed it because I figured that would just cause problems.  I guess what I am asking is with the hardware I have what do thin the optimal folding configuration for folding should be here?  Thanks  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 Glad to hear the GPU's are recognized now. As for the hardware configuration, [email protected] recommends leaving one processing core per GPU. Since your 9600k has exactly 6 cores, I wouldn't recommend folding on the CPU at all as it will be of very little gain and may be detrimental to your GPU's scores, which are weighted far more heavily in terms of value. I don't see any issue running the Intel iGPU as it simply uses 2MB of cache and some spare system memory, so it shouldn't impact your stability at all. It might not score all that well, but it shouldn't hurt anything either.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter JADO ✭ April 20 My thoughts exactly.  Thank you for confirming.  Appreciate the help. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSMichaelB admin April 20 My pleasure. The biggest one being the case, we can easily go with something quite a bit cheaper and get a much better GPU, we can also go with a cheaper CPU/motherboard combo while still preserving your gaming performance. I would also definitely upgrade the power supply at this budget, a 450W leaves basically no room leftover especially if you planned on upgrading in the future. This is probably what I'd do: https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=a3c352a6-c0d9-4e4c-8c3d-c4aa2de158bd I opted for the 3700X instead of the 3900X for your CPU. It's basically the same gaming performance, while still being very good for streaming if you choose to go that route. You can actually download and create a bootable Windows 10 USB drive for free here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10  You will need a Windows computer that can connect to the internet and a USB drive that is at least 8 GB. To verify does the disc eject after a few seconds by itself or does it eject after you try to open it in file explorer? If it's the former, it's likely a defective ODD. I wouldn't replace the slimline drives on the 3650. I would just replace it with an external.  If it's the latter, that it's ejecting when you open file explorer and try to open the drive, then it isn't enumerating the driver automatically. You can insert the drive and try to do this manually from Powershell with: Get-WMIObject -windowstyle hidden -Class Win32_CDROMDrive -Property * | Get-Member To open Powershell, right click on the "Start" button, it'll be one of the options in your power user menu. 5 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Answers tom ✭ April 22 Ok I'll try it again and see which one its doing and get back to you.  Thanks for the help  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Run Troubleshooting through the Control Panel. Open the Control Panel. You can do this by clicking on the Type here to search, entering Control Panel, and selecting the top result.   Ensure the control panel is being viewed by Small (or large) icons and then open Troubleshooting.   Select the Configure a device option under Hardware and Sound. Follow the prompts that show on the Troubleshooter that appears.   Check BIOS to ensure the DVD drive is detected. Depending on what your machine, when you boot up your machine you will need to press a button to go into your BIOS. From there you can check your system to make sure the CD/DVD drive shows up. If it does not show up here, shut down the system and unplug it from your outlet. Then, open the side panel and check to make sure the cables are seated properly for both the power and the data. If this is an external drive, make sure the USB connection is properly seated.  2. Update chipset driver for motherboard. You can find the driver for the computer on the support page for the motherboard. If this is a pre-built system from a manufacturer, you will find it on the manufacturer’s support page. 3. Update or reinstall the driver for the CD/DVD Driver. Open device manager. You can do so by holding the Windows key and pressing X to bring up a menu at the start key. Then click on Device Manager.   Open DVD/CD-ROM drives to see the driver for your CD/DVD drive.   Right-click on the driver to and select Update driver.   On the following prompt, select Search automatically for updated driver software and let it search for results. If the driver updates, check if it works afterward.   If the issue is not resolved at this point, right-click on the device and choose to Uninstall device.   After uninstalling the driver, reboot the computer. So long as the drive is physically connected to the system as it needs to, you should see the driver back on the device manager after rebooting. 4. Reinstall drivers under the IDE/ADAPI category on the device manager. Open device manager. You can do so by holding the Windows key and pressing X to bring up a menu at the start key. Then click on Device Manager.   Open the IDE/ATAPI controllers   Right-click on the ATA Controller 0 and select Uninstall device to uninstall.   Right-click on the ATA Controller 1 and select Uninstall device to uninstall. Right-click on the Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller and select Uninstall device to uninstall. Repeat this for any additional ATA Controller drivers in this category. After uninstalling the drivers, reboot the computer. The drivers should be reinstalled upon booting.   5. Fix corrupt registry entry.   Note: It is important to be careful with registries as altering the wrong registry can cause issues with your computer. Proceed with this step with due caution. Changes to registry occur immediately, there is no prompt to save or discard changes.   Click on the Type here to search on the taskbar and search RegEdit. Select the Regedit result to open the Registry Editor.   On the navigation bar near the top, go to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} You can also navigate the subfolders on the left pane to get to the same folder. On the right pane, locate the upper filter and lower filter. Delete these two entries by selecting each one and then on the upper left corner, open the Edit and then select Delete.   After the upper and lower filters are deleted, close the Registry Editor and reboot the computer. 6. Create a registry subkey. Note: It is important to be careful with registries as altering the wrong registry can cause issues with your computer. Proceed with this step with due caution. Click on the Type here to search on the taskbar and search RegEdit. Select the Regedit result to open the Registry Editor.   On the navigation bar near the top, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi You can also navigate the subfolders on the left pane to get to the same folder.   Right-click on the atapi folder on the left pane. On the menu that comes up, go the New and select the Key. Type Controller0 in the prompt and then press Enter.   Right-click on Controller0 and within New, select DWORD(32-bit) Value.   Type EnumDevice1 when prompted for the name of the new value. Right-click on EnumDevice1 and then click on Modify…   In the Value data box, set it to 1 and then click on OK.   Exit the Registry Editor and reboot the computer to apply changes. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment. Welcome to the Community.  First things first, Windows licenses don't "expire." Once you buy it, you have it. Eventually an operating system may be retired, like with Windows XP and now Windows 7, but Windows 10 is still fully supported by Microsoft and won't be retired for quite a while. There's no reason you should have to switch to Linux.  If you do want to switch, there are many different variations of Linux available, and it's not something you just walk in and buy at a store. Your best bet would be to look up Linux tutorials and explanations online or watch videos about it on Youtube. You can also go through https://www.linux.org/ to find various tutorials, downloads and other general information.  We don't sell any systems with Linux on them already, and from what I can see online, neither Quicken nor TurboTax offer any Linux-specific versions you can use.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Rubyblue ✭ May 24    Thank you for your input.  So I can't use Linux if I wish to use Quicken & TT?  A Chromebook puts me in a similar dilemna unless I use the cloud.  Thanks, I appreciate. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSTonyV admin May 24 As far as I can tell no. Bill_R ✭ September 9 in New Members Well, my 11yo & 10yo and I just put together our first budget gaming pc.  We started watching YouTube to even find out where to start, Jay and Kyle, thank you.  I would say thanks to Linus, but I didn't have a $10,000 budget.  So, I asked friends and family looking to see if a diamond in the rough PC was in a closet somewhere that I could harvest some parts from, it didn't really work out, but I now have 4+ disassembled old PCs in the garage.  We learned about the parts a got some familiarity with them.  So, this is a really long post that will eventually ask where I should upgrade first.  This is the warning I feel should come with PC building.  It is an exciting and addicting hobby.  I sold an old Xbox 360, my MTG cards (it wasn't that many) and all the books for an paper and pencil RPG ( The One Ring, it is awesome but very different from D&D).  With all that my budget was set.   MB: MSI A-320M PRO (new $67) CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200 (new $90) RAM: Gskill RipJaw 16g.....2x8g 2400hz  (used for $40) Blue GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1050 ti (used  $120, added after about two months of using the onboard vega graphics) SSD: Silicon power 128g boot drive (new $25) HDD: Seagate 7200 1 TB (harvested) PSU: 720W cheap off brand, no certification (harvested) with blue LED Case: Rosewill Nautilus (used but NIB for $30) Optical drive: Sony who knows... (harvested) and added a couple more blue LED fans and done.  Games we play: Ghost of a Tale, Styx: Master of Shadows, 7 Days to Die, Baldur's Gate EE, Exanima, Kerbal Space Program and some other indie games.  We will be getting Minecraft, Fortnite, and I am looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3.  They also want to start learning to program their own games.. Ideas? Please let us know where we should upgrade first?  I have my thoughts but would like some insight from you all.  Thanks so much. 0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Comments TSTonyV admin September 9 I think the first order of business would be getting a decent PSU. I would absolutely not trust an off or no-name brand with no certifications or indications of quality. The PSU is the heart of your system and if the PSU goes, it will very likely damage other components as well.  I'm not very familiar with most of the games you listed, but I'm pretty sure the 1050ti is probably fine to run most of those at 1080p, so I'd probably look at some other areas first. A larger SSD to store games on for better loading times for example, that'd probably be one of the first things I look at. Or, you could look at upgrading the CPU to something like a Ryzen 3 3300X and pairing it with a better board/faster memory.  1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Bill_R ✭ September 9 Thanks so much.  I see what you are saying.  Fixing the foundation before the sheet rock.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSTonyV admin September 9 Yeah, if there's one thing you should absolutely not cheap out on, it's the PSU. You don't need a super ultra expensive 1500W 80+ Platinum PSU, but getting something that's at least reputable goes a long way.  0 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Felicity near Tustin ✭ September 12 don't bother with an optical drive, it's 2020 >PSU: 720W cheap off brand, no certification (harvested) with blue LED is 100% the most egregious error in this list. I've had very few parts feel dangerous; I had a PSU catch fire and melt the cable. The memory you're getting is a decent deal except that you want faster memory for ryzen (afaik). You may be able to get 20 series GPUs soon here for under $300... watch out for those. I know I'll be selling my 2070s for pretty cheap if I can get my hands on a 3080 right away. it won't pair with that cpu very well though even if you did find a good one. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter TSTonyV admin September 12 Felicity said: The memory you're getting is a decent deal except that you want faster memory for ryzen (afaik). This is correct, really for any CPU. Faster memory can have some very noticeable performance benefits. Ryzen does scale well with memory speed, up to about DDR4-3600. Intel also scales with memory, though it's not exactly the same.  1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Bill_R ✭ September 22 Yeah, I knew the optical drive was not needed, but have a ton of old cds to rip to library.  Buying a new PSU is a priority.  Thanks. 1 · Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Sign In or Register to comment.
